NJP as punishment
On the discord tonight we were discussing space law and punishment and the use of NJP that is non judicial punishment. I’ll say first that i never get in trouble so i don’t end up in the brig or asked to do NJP, however being prior military i know that NJP is a powerful tool and the first employed by commanders when administering discipline.
That being said the most common official form of NJP is the article 15. This is something a company (captain) or field grade offficer (lt col) can give that involves the loss of pay and extra duty, usually from 15-45 days. That can’t really be replicated well in the game, since there isn’t pay, and extra duty such as filling sandbags or shoveling snow would require supervision.
The most common form of unofficial NJP is PT or physical training, think drop and give me 50 push-ups. This is usually done by an NCO and would be completely apporopriate for a lot of the infractions i’ve seen, like breaking glass and pushing. Again this is tough to replicate and more creative forms of NJP might require supervision that the SL just doesn’t have time for.
However one possibility could be using the IC rest button to lie down then stand up, kinda of a lame version of up down go’s which were pretty popular in my day. the PFC would remain in place rest and then get up counting as he did each repition. it would be easy to supervise, publicly humiliating, and not give brig time giving all the benefits of NJP.

Re: NJP as punishment
This was an NJP I used on Tess Greed a few weeks ago, with the addition of my MP sitting on her back to add extra weight and make it "harder" for them, it was pretty great.Narayana wrote: ↑20 Jul 2018, 02:58On the discord tonight we were discussing space law and punishment and the use of NJP that is non judicial punishment. Re: NJP as punishment
NJP's are fun, only had one female CMP ever issue one to me, which was running laps around the hangar.
The push ups are a good idea as well, even if the player doesnt actually get down on the floor and get back up again, but maybe even just using "Me" commands.
Hopefully MP/CMP's use them more if the charge calls for it.

"It was a fantastic round. If the CO hadn't cryo'ed before the end I'd have bothered him to give at least two more medals. To PFC Max Dallas, who kept doing the path between the frontlines to FOB (the only place with medical aid) with a roller bed, and saved a lot of marines who'd have husked otherwise. And to Dr. Haley Altman, who after all medics were gone was fixing us time and again for hours straight. At the end there were over 10 patients around her either dead or in crit, and she just kept going."

The one time I played CMP I made a CT dissassemble all of the chairs in briefing and then re assemble them again for playing russian roulette with a doctor, neglecting her duty.

Re: NJP as punishment
Had that once but it requires MP presence. If someone wants to mess around then its certainly not a SL that will enforce push ups lol.

Put the Orange Shoe cuffs from the Brig lockers and force them to run laps in the hangar with those. Thats a cruel NJP. Or Messhall duty. Or have them spit shine your shoes.

Making them run laps sounds hilarious, and if they cheat or cut corners that is insubordination so you can make them run MORE laps!

Re: NJP as punishment
Now you say it. Leg cuffing then making a marine run around sounds really fitting. It's interactive, allows easy subduing in case of runners, and serves punishement over time.
SLs and MPs, please do that IC after asking the CMP. That should be neato.

inb4 marine law timers are given a minutes-to-lap conversion ratio.

Re: NJP as punishment
I think it's cool. Had a MP come talk to me about some assault I didn't even remember happen and I complied and just lay down. Just then the Alamo drops down and we look inside to an apparent bloody mess made by some poor sap getting squished. They just told me to clean the Alamo and I'll be off the hook. Cool MP's and compliant marines make a good round easier

Re: NJP as punishment
A more likely situation for the MP would have been:
“I walk up to this guy and he jut lays down when I started talking to him. Then I saw he was near a huge mess on the dropship. Let’s give him 30 minutes for insub for laying down before being told, and tack on damage to government property because I think he was the one that trashed the dropship.”
