Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
- I understand and am fully aware of this fact.
Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
- I understand that a Battlefield Execution is a tool only used when someone's non-compliance is putting the operation at an immediate and real risk that cannot be resolved through any other means. It is not a tool used lightly or for frivolous reasons. I am also aware that MPs are considered immune to Battlefield Executions and that in any given situation an attempt should be made to utilize them rather than an execution.
Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
- I understand these facts and will allow the MPs to do their jobs.
What do you think is the job of a Commander?
- The Commander's IC job is to ensure victory for the U.S.C.M. and all that jazz like a normal military commander. A Commander's OOC job is to ensure a fun role-play element and to be the general face of the operation. Taking the inevitable fuck-ups along the way in stride and trying to make the game enjoyable for everyone involved. It is also a Commander's job to make use of the tools they are given to execute a plan or to turn a situation in favor of the Marines.
- The Communications Console: While as an XO you still have access to the Communications Console, it is still one of the Commander's most vital tools. Giving him the ability to, with or without comms, speak to all personnel assigned to the Almayer instantly.
- Delegation: One of the Commander's chief tools is his ability, as the highest ranking officer aboard the Almayer, to delegate tasks to his subordinates. Ranging from as simple as 'Check X for me.' to requesting a second opinion on a plan. A Commander is not a one-man-command, he is simply the orchestrator and his subordinates his orchestra.
- Orders: A Commander has the most effective leadership aura bar none. From circumstantial reports I've heard that his Focus Fire can allow M41As to be fired in each hand and Hold can stabilize marines. These are probably exaggerations but his Command Aura is still a force to be reckoned with. Although it should be deployed sparingly as it only affects those he sees and in order for that to happen he has to be at the front lines. Away from the CIC and his other tools.
- Medals: While medals are awarded via the communications console I thought it best to include them in a separate section. As while medals give very little tangible benefit they still are a powerful morale booster and a way to give praise to the marines under your command. A very different result than the simple instant communication of the console.
If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
- I would see what their likely complaint is first of all, since the only reason an order would be denied is if the individual had a reason to do so. Be it with my style of commanding or the order itself. Then I would decide whether it's something that needs my personal presence or if it's something I can direct an idle subordinate to. I won't have time for every complaint and giving the other Officers some objective outside their usual is a good change of pace. If it does require my direct presence it means the situation is Mission Critical. In that case I would first set about heading down to give an order in person to the individual in question. There may be a greater weight or threat to having the Commander give an order in the flesh, or pixels, rather than over the comms. If this fails and the Insubordinate is still, well, insubordinate and the situation is at risk of making the mission go FUBAR. Request the MPs in Riot gear to flash and gas them out if they're entrenched or just normally apprehend them if they're mobile. It is only if the order being ignored or acted against is absolutely mission critical, we are in a zero time situation, there are no MPs in quick response range for an apprehension, and I as the Commander am capable of doing said task would I issue a .454 Casull to the cranium then go through with the order myself.
Why should you be whitelisted?
- To be honest, in terms of competancy I probably shouldn't get the whitelist. I'm alright as a Squad Lead and Staff Officer but I fumble the ball as XO. Previously I would get hung up on these failures as some damning evidence of my inability to command but I realized these are just things that happen no matter the skill level of the Commander, acting or whitelisted, and I started taking the failures in stride while using them as ways to roleplay. So in terms of the mindset, I think I'm okay to be whitelisted. I can and will improve of course but everyone can improve no matter how perfect they are. I also plan on retaking an active role during the approval period in the CIC as XO after an impromptu LoA from the positions. So hopefully that can alleviate the inevitable tide of 'I haven't seen you in Command Roles'.
