Yes. Essentially, Synthetics are used as multi-purpose support units in the field, as opposed to combat units. They are unable to use firearms mechanically, but should also not functionally attempt to be combative. This means a Synthetic, even if it had access to a grenade mechanically would still be prevented by programming from using it. The same can be true of the Tank gun (if that’s ever added back).
Synthetic units are also machines, and though they are capable of feeling some level of emotion, this will never over-ride their logical functions. This means that a Synthetic can smile or display some measure of genuine happiness, but would be unable to properly fulfill the same emotional connection that a human would in regards to joy.

Alexander strolled alongside Lieutenant Sommers, his eyes occasionally flicking upwards to observe the light-bulbs which lined the hallway. It seemed quite likely that there was a very minor power fluctuation occurring, he thought as one of the bulbs suddenly ceased before returning to an emittance of light. He would need to check the SMES after he had finished his discussion to ensure that they were operating at peak efficiency. The Maintenance Technicians were talented personnel, naturally, but they were only human, and the epitome of their kind could effectively be summed up in easily-fixed miscalculations.
Sommers paused in his walk, leaning against a wall, just short of the Upper Medical doors as his headset buzzed, transmitting the same information that reached Alexander. It seemed that he had been assigned to Overwatch duties over Delta squad, and the sheer thought of dealing with the rugged barbarians had clearly given him pause.
“Is everything alright, Lieutenant?” The Synthetic acquired, twisting upon his heel so as to more naturally face the Officer, his expression sympathetic.
“Oh- It’s nothing to worry about, Alexander. I was just hoping that I would be assigned to a group of less… rambunctious personnel. They rarely listen to orders, after all.”
The gentlemanly Lieutenant seemed altogether beset by the prospect of the upcoming operation, and the Synthetic unit nodded his acceptance of the reason for their pause before promptly uttering, “Perhaps I could go speak to them beforehand, and inquire as to whatever supplies they might require so that you may better prepare for their Overwatch?”
The Lieutenant’s expression seemed to light up at the thought, beret shifting ever-so-slightly upon his balding dome as he nodded his acceptance, opening the nearby Medical doorway and stepping aside in a non-verbal prompt to follow through. The Synthetic complied, sliding down the ladders and proceeding to the Delta Canteen.
Along the way, he stopped by the Preparation room for their squad, noticing that it had been left in a rather unkempt tousle of weapons, munitions, and assorted equipment. He made a mental note to return after he had finished with the SMES so that he could tidy everything up. It took a miniscule amount of effort to retrieve the colored helmet from the vendor, and even less time to slide it over-top his head.
He was not altogether dissimilar in appearance from the standard grunt, albeit missing some of the more severe scarring and modification elements that some of the soldiers undertook to showcase their masculinity. Tattoos simply weren’t proper for a Synthetic. He took a final glance at the Prep room, and its utter filth, and promptly shifted the helmet around his head, mixing up the hair underneath in the process so that it better resembled the Delta workplace.
A short walk later had brought him to the Charlie-Delta shared canteen, and he promptly spotted a group of the rambunctious warriors engaged in their typical morning escapades. Some were simply present to consume their meals, but others were far more fascinated by the rather intense arm-wrestling match taking place between the Squad Leader and the Smart-Gunner. The Lance Corporal clearly had an advantage in the strength-based ordeal, and his arms had swelled like tree-trunks thanks to his choice of weapon and its relative weight.
Alexander didn’t bother to announce his presence, but instead merely slid into one of the seats, affixing his attention to the contest of might, and occasionally looking towards those present. One of the Corporals had a lip which seemed to jut out rather disproportionately from his jaw, and the Synthetic readily recognized the signs of smokeless tobacco. While he possessed none upon his person, it was a relatively simple process to give the impression that he too was toting some of the dip, and he occasionally shifted his lip to further give that impression.
As the test of might came to a close, the Synthetic leaned in closer, joining in the cacophony of cheers and jeers which followed before smugly offering,
“Why don’t ya try me?”
The Marines were, naturally, not idiots, but the sheer testosterone of the situation, and the excitement which had followed the first bout of arm-wrestling promptly gave way to a series of jeers and taunts that could not be denied if the Smart-gunner wanted to retain his position as squad ‘tough guy’. Eventually, the Lance Corporal consented with a nod, and the Synthetic grinned in a wolfish manner, strolling over to the edge of the table, and spitting into the disposals unit – he had nothing in his mouth, but it meant he could stop the impression and focus.
He intentionally rolled up the sleeve of his arm, revealing the perfectly manufactured synth-flesh underneath, flexing the ‘muscle’ underneath to show off, and assumed the standard position. The Smart-gunner locked their hands together, and, at the call of the Squad Leader, the contest began.
Alexander recognized that it would be absolutely no struggle whatsoever to simply win the contest of might, but it would be altogether unfulfilling if the machine instantly overtook the ‘tough guy’, and so he allowed himself to strain against the man, flinching as the pushes intensified, grinding his teeth as he pressed against him with a meager quarter of his own strength.
And then, like the flipping of a switch he began to ease himself back to his full ability, allowing himself to slowly, gradually overtake the Smart-gunner until finally he had pressed him firmly against the table with a dull thud. He exhaled as though breathless, casting his arms upwards and letting loose a victory call of “Ohhhhh!”
The sheer energy that he possessed, and the rather evident lack of decorum seemed to ingratiate him to the squad, and after a quick pat on the back to the Smart-gunner and an offer to buy him smokes after the OP; assuming he survived, naturally, the Synthetic slid back into his chair and began to converse with the Squad about his original purpose.
“OW thought you might need some additional supplies throughout the OP, and he was hoping I could get a list for Req.” He spoke rapidly, abbreviating things in the way that the Marines often did when they were pre-occupied with fighting.
Even as he compiled the list, he made sure that his writing was… imperfect, and occasionally out-right incorrect. He marked down “Rocket propeled grenade ammo”, intentionally misspelling one of the words before, almost as an after-thought, adding an additional L above the word, and connecting the two with a squiggly arrow.
As the squad dispersed to attend Briefing, and Alexander began to make his way back to CIC, he dropped off the helmet, re-did his hair to its normal groomed state, tidied his uniform, and promptly delivered the list.
And, even as Sommers face lit up once more, and Alexander was congratulated for a job well-done, the Synthetic’s eyes were focused upon the shimmering flicker of a poorly powered light bulb.
I fully intend to fulfill all of the typical support roles that are required by Synthetics. These include Engineering, Medical, Overwatch, and Requisitions. I would not engage in any form of Policing work, however, though I would probably interfere with a potentially dangerous situation such as Marines getting into a brawl if I didn’t believe the Military Police would arrive in time, attempting to defuse the scenario as best as possible with either conversation or literally standing between people so that they can’t hurt each other. (An example of this could be the famous brawls that occasionally take place on the Dropships wherein the tight spaces typically mean that simply standing between people can put a massive damper on the fight.)
Beyond following the role of a Synthetic, I intend to play as a sycophant. In this context, that does not mean that I intend to agree with everything that everyone says, or withhold any potential information for the sake of following through with an intended plan. If something is of vital importance, it needs to be stated regardless of how it may affect those around me.
That said, Alexander is intended to be something of a mimic. As I’m sure all of us are aware, there are quite a few different types of people aboard the Almayer, and many of them carry their own quirks. The basic PFCs and ground-side warriors may speak in their typical care-free or otherwise macho fashion, and in their presence, Alexander would match them in their bravado.
In the company of Medical staff or Engineers, he may attempt to discuss subjects with typical lingo, or if someone plainly possesses a speech stutter or other issue (think Carson when he gets angry IC), then Alexander would subtly change his own speech patterns in order to ingratiate himself with the person in charge. Essentially, whichever behaviors he is most exposed to, and whomever he is around will be reflected as best as possible in his own behavior.
After all, a sycophant wants to please others, and what greater flattery is there than imitation?
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO):
I’m quite familiar with the typical support roles.

Medical:
I’ve played multiple rounds of Medical as both a Doctor and a Combat Medic, and am fully aware of what all of the chemicals most commonly used by both groups do. I’m also familiar with the standard Medic code wherein one person does the pill-work, and the other takes care of patching, and I haven’t OD’d someone in quite some time thanks to it. The surgeries are all relatively simple, and have proven rather easy to memorize. All in all, Medical work is actually one of my stronger suits comparatively.
Engineering:
I’ve also played multiple rounds as a Maintenance Technician and as a Combat Engineer, though I’m certainly played more of the latter than the former. I’m aware of how to construct all of the barricades, how to fix APCs at all stages of damage, how to fix generators, and how to make walls from girders. That being said, I will admit that I do not remember all of the steps necessary for making walls or deconstructing them, and would likely need to glance at the wiki. (Mind you, I always have the thing open anyway.)
Overwatch:
I’ve played a great deal of Command roles, and am currently a whitelisted Commander. I don’t doubt for a moment that I’d be wholly capable of assuming any Overwatch duties that were required of me. I’m pretty sure I’d even be able to carry out the sycophant trait while stuck at a desk, since I can simply change my composure depending on which channel I’m speaking over/who I’m talking to.
Requisitions:
This is an exceptionally simple role, and short of knowing a couple of quick tricks such as throwing special equipment, (I.E Webbing, Flechette, Machetes) out near the counter, it is extremely easy to master.
Pilot:
Click button to calculate stuff. Click button to launch. Land. Make sure Sentries are on. Done.
Or, click button for CASEVAC, select appropriate weapon/tool, click on available buttons for Medevac and winch people up, or get confirmation to fire and then click several times on laze button. Done.
I’ve been around on the server for a few months now, and have expressed a great deal of appreciation for the opportunity to roleplay as a character since then. The simple and logical progression from being a character primarily focused on accomplishing a goal to one whose primary focus is to accomplish goals whilst simultaneously bringing a different form of RP to a scenario intrigues me, and I’d absolutely adore getting to give it a hand.
Beyond that, I’m familiar with all of the Support roles, and believe that I could be useful for the progression of many rounds wherein Lowpop rather heavily limits the talents of the Marine force. The number of times that I’ve been present on a Lowpop round only to find that a department or two are understaffed and almost entirely ineffective has been too numerous to properly record.
I would also seriously enjoy the opportunity to properly roleplay with the opposing side. The number of times where I’ve been a Marine and seen a Xeno in a situation wherein we cannot immediately attack one another, and want to engage it in some level of brief writing have been surprisingly high, and the same goes for my interactions with the Marine force as a Xeno. I’m fully aware that the game is a TDM, and that both sides will inevitable needs to kill one another, but getting to actually write out a First Contact beyond having my communicative options boil down to pointing at it, and shooting it seems like it would be pleasant.
Besides those reasons, I’m quite a nerd in terms of robotic and synthetic entities, and would honestly just enjoy getting the opportunity to play one of them again.

Not a single one. Never even been temp-banned that I know of.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
Of course, I believe there was a similar question which was asked for the Commander Whitelist, and since then, I’ve not changed my opinions that it is a completely fair arrangement. If someone is utterly disregarding the rules for a Synthetic which are clearly laid out, and frankly not altogether so difficult to follow, then it is only logical that they would be punished, regardless of how much money they are shelling out to the server. Besides, I don’t even think people are capable of donating right now.
