In actual news the gameplay overhaul is going well and will no longer require marines to just rush xenos and try to kill them all.

Research is on hold again but gameplay overhaul will mesh nicely with it so probably after thats done.

I see marines have the ability to make burgers now, all we need is the Marine Chef now for the dream to come true :cutewink: .

some more supplies in the kitchen to make more than just burgers would be nice. Still need universal enzyme to make cheese

indeed, we need that universal enzyme, also salt and pepper would be nice. same for some vegetables crates

what are the plans for an update to how rounds end? it is a bit funny, during an almayer invasion fight for example, to have the xenos defeat a good fortification in one part of the ship only to not be able to track down the scattered few remnants elsewhere in time. it is surely leading to winrate recordings that do not truly reflect the state of the game

now it just interrupted what would have been a marine major victory by almayer finishing crashing. it cuts both ways.

The general idea has always been that if the aliens make it to the almayer the marines should lose.
We dont want 2 hour fights on the almayer hence a cap was put on it. Once the dropship crashes the almayer reaches a descending orbit. You need to defeat the other side within a set amount of time.

well, there rarely were very long fights on the almayer, in my experience. the most severe cases of "delay" that got deadchat groaning were usually on the planet, drone after drone scattering away and forming into a short-lived queen. there was room for them to do that on the planet. the almayer is a comparably small space that can be scoured effectively in 5 to 10 minutes or so if a team gains the upper hand and breaks the back of the opponents.

sometimes the almayer crashing music cuts in right in the middle of pitched fighting, for example if the cic is well defended and it takes the xenos a while to chip through its outer defenses or melt through the walls to get around them, or if the crashed ds is stiffly defended against a marine attack on it. if the teams are still fighting each other, delaying is not going on.

if you want to adhere to "the general idea is that if the xenos make it to the almayer, the marines should lose" then why aren't you ending the round the instant the dropship hits? the instant the queen presses the button to hijack the alamo? the instant that the marines fully retreat from the planet? because you know that there is still room for some gameplay and the final fate of the round is not yet truly decided.

Almayer fights regularly extended to 30-60 minutes before the cap was implemented -- not to mention the occasional two hour delays.

Regardless of what your definition of delaying is (if anything, the issue WAS that you had 30-60 minute fights without intentional delaying from one team or another), it's just bad game design to have a long fight while the majority of your players are forced to spectate.

if the philosophy is that if the aliens land on almayer the humans deserve to lose, then you can address it by mapping changes to the almayer's layout to make it more difficult to defend and more welcoming to xenomorphs rather than relying on a timer. or, as i just said, you can just have the round end when the final full retreat is called, because that is always followed up by the aliens landing on almayer, and "if the aliens land on the almayer, the marines deserve to lose".

It's such a dead-end philosophy, though. Once you start enforcing narrow-minded ideas like that into a game, you remove many of the exceptions that are the most memorable. Imagine if in American Football the league just said, "If you're down by 21 Points by the fourth quarter, you deserve to lose", then enforces a rule where the game ends immediately. Would that speed up the game? Yeah, obviously, but at what cost? At the loss of the suspense and excitement of a possible comeback, or the unfolding storylines that can accompany it. Worse still, it makes most games end in the least satisfying way possible, thematically at least. After the Xenos did everything right to drive the Marines off the planet and board the Almayer, the game ends with.... Them crashing into the planet because there was a few marines hiding in lockers. It is not a solution to the problems of end game.

I do think about more elaborated almayer siege, as in Battlefield 2142 titans where any side can speed/slow up/down the timer in their favour
