The Surprising state of Alpha

Post by Kesserline » 07 Oct 2018, 17:29

Surprises after surprises, Alphas seems like war machines with the self preservation instinct of toddlers.

They can swarm a breach without a second thought, dying without a regret, FFing without care, and killing enemies against all odds.

They are like Deltas, but with more chromosoms and less braincells, yet, with some good impulse, they can still make a marine major.

I'm speaking to you, SLs. Bring light to Alpha !
I'm speaking for you, Alphas, keep ungaing ! UNGA PRIME AND CARGONIA WATCH YOU.

and then the very next round they screw over a friendly corrupted beno event by killing the friendly benos despite them not fighting back, and the researchers telling them that they're good.

it's like there's no inbetween for alphas, they're on one side of the extreme spectrum

From what I can tell, with Alpha, you need to keep them doing SOMETHING at all times. It seems to be the only way to keep then from wandering off into "Ooops, all wipeouts."
Usually playing as Darwin 'D.J.' Jefferson, PFC (Private: Flare Carrier), or Smartgunner almost always out of ammo. Occasionally an RO who yearns for death, dealing with rampant jackassery of his coworkers.

I have been SOing alpha lately and I can safely state that they have significantly less brain cells than delta, within 5 seconds of combat at least half the squad is blown up from either C4 or friendly nades.

But it is true that they can do good damage due to the fact they give no shits about who gets hit by their bullets.

After the corrupted xenos event today and how they won for the marines only to be all killed by alphas after being yelled at that "greens are friendly!"

I had a round where alpha single-handedly wiped out the xenos on prison by unga rushing from research to the chapel to civ res without stopping. They had no squad support, either.

I have respect for alpha after that round. Even if they may sometimes be a bit scatter-brained. And very bald.

The only consistent trait of Alphas is a heightened Unga Dunga Reflex, or "UDR" for short. The UDR is responsible for a wide-range of behaviors, such as the instinct to follow a big red dogs by oneself into a dark secluded corner of the map, or to panic-fire ones rifle into the back of ones squadmates. If properly corralled, a strong UDR can be directed into more useful activities, like suicide charging a Xeno nest, but proper incentives must be provided to ensure it works.

A good way to measure UDR is by starting a pre-briefing brawl. The typical delta/charlie will throw themselves into the brawl while also respecting the "no knife, no shooting, no snitching" rule, the typical bravo will either stand around gazing or will call the MP's, the typical alpha however will have their unga senses put to overdrive and whip out their pulse rifle to blast apart the nearest brawler.

hmm... Yeah, I could see that happening in pre-briefing brawl... but I rather would shank them in the legs to be subtle than blazing them to stand out.

They can't tell the difference, they can only see in motion, if it moves, they kill it. They'd even fuckin' kill a predator if they felt like it.

Just lead Alpha squad. I can confirm they are on death squad levels of Xeno and marine slaying.

The way I see it, it's really up to the SL and the LT to figure out what's going on. Alpha is dragon energy that is never harnessed correctly.

Been running Squad lead for alpha. Its been great. Theyre capable of murder balling over xenos like delta but more likely to stick together then delta.

Alpha may not have individual robustness of delta, but they will stick to you. 15 alphas, forming gun lines, cutting weeds, bringing wounded back to the rear. The potential of alpha is massive. They dont run ungas, theyre more a Death squad lite.

I'm running missions, and I have 15 men on my head from mission start to mission end, feels good man, feels good.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

As a banana I can confirm that Alpha is the squad I like least. Mostly due to us having to share the squad cafeteria and RO line with them.
