go to req, ask for an angled grip, and a mag harness. Next go to your vendor and get an m37 out of it as well as a box of buckshot. Now attach all the attachments to the m37 and load it with buckshot. Make sure you have macros for pumping the shotgun. Now just run around and hit e, z, then instafuck whatever is next to you. Congrats you are robust. remember its EZ to pwn with buckshot.

If the recoil is still too nasty and you cant aim, toss on a recoil comp and you should be able to just walk up and blast people its baby trainer wheels

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Get a standard pump shotgun. Load it with buckshot. Go to req and order a gyro. Go back to your prep and get a bayonet and a rail light. You now have the potential to robust. Land on the planet and activate harm intent. Laugh as you run in and perform buckshot surgery on xenos while the rifleman behind you shoots you in the back.

Bonus points: Robust an MP with your shotgun. Steal or acquire an auto shotgun and load it with buckshot. Instead of getting shot in the back, get naded in the back. Robust the commander and take his mateba then put a BFA, BC, QFA attachment pack on it and set it to burst fire so you can BE the inevitable admin squad when they come.

To be truly robust isn't just killing xenos. Any old fool with a RPG or a PB buckshot blast can kill or disable a xeno, but marines can do more than that. Drop flares, know how to do basic medical treatment (the first aid pack can treat almost everything except for toxins and broken bones). Even if you're not an engineer, be prepared to do things like use sandbags, use barbed wire, and gather material for an engineer (anybody with a wrench can take apart tables and chairs ;) ). Drag injured marines back to safety and listen to your SL because they know more than you, and they know more than Command. Robustness isn't just killing xenos, it's being prepared and able to adapt to a situation.

Analyze everything you do and try to think two steps in advance. Draw conclusions from ideas and mistakes, come up with solutions. As you gain experience you start predicting threats and respond instinctively.

Rinse, repeat and practice.

What Arbs said.

Also here are some things you need to acquire :
- Situation awareness
- Good reactivity
- Understanding that it's a videogame, do not waste your round by dying, but do not waste opportunities to ensure kills, even if it means taking risks
- If you manage to kill xenos while being solo, then, do your best to find other decent marines around you and cover them. A group of decent/good/robust marines can represent a serious danger to any Hive
- Do not be Charlie

And finally, and most importantly :
- Have fun, if you don't have fun, it means nothing to be robust, you're just wasting your IRL time with some unfun time. Have fun.

Grab a shotgun with only a rail light, bayonet, and angled grip. NO SLUGS, use buckshot, become suicidal and learn what works and what gets you killed. Courage is one of the first steps needed to be robust in my opinion

Do not get mad over dying, learn to accept it, the more you fear dying in CM, the less robust you usually will be. And have fun

Also, spoiler, even the most robust players I've seen die stupid deaths, don't get discouraged if you die multiple rounds.

Really silly. Put all your life on single card called "Buckshot PB" with xenos having like a ton of counters just to maybe kill one beno and die just shortly after.
Fear of death is like the best part of the game. Suicidal marines should be only in some dank FPS with fast respawn.

You don't have to be robust, just wait for rounds where xenos are bad. Only chance to do anything.

Don't underestimate the threat of a well placed burst of rifle fire. That's all I can say.

Learn to use nades properly; use HEDP to clear tight rooms full of xenos and HEFAs to clear tight rooms full of squad members. Cant get any more robust

Rifle.
Bayonet.
UGL.
RDS/Your Choice
4 HEDP nades. Make sure to use the Underslung Grenade Launcher.

Bayonet clears sticky and good in melee.
UGL w/ nades is good to clear weeds and stun xenos for kills.
RDS for extra aim buff.

Simple, easy, and trustworthy.
Take lots of amm too in your ammo belt. Carry at least 2 mags of AP with this loadout.
If possible, keep the empty AP mags so you can refill them if possible.

Additionally, it helps if you can snag a Motion Detector (MD).
As for sidearm, you can go pistol or take a shotgun.
