Wielder Tanks

Post by RED119 » 10 May 2015, 13:39

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): One of the most frequent
meta-gaming acts I have seen when admins are not on is this. Marines, when they run out of grenades or don't have them for that matter, push wielder tanks into a nest at a xeno and shoot. So I think they should either be made non-pullable or made fixed to a wall and have their sprite changed, something like the virus food dispenser.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This will help make a meta-gaming action not really as prevalent, as the marines already have plenty of explosives (i.e. grenades and mines)

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Not much here, besides what I listed.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I could be very wrong, its been a long time since I looked at ss13 code, so excuse me if this sounds insolent, but I dont think its that hard to to adjust something to make it non-pullable, the other option is a bit more involved with no real substantial benefit over the other, so I would recommend the first option.

I'm not entirely sure how using something that would clearly be explosive is a form of metagaming, however it does break rule 9 in that it causes breaches, so I don't think there should be any extra steps taken to prevent this, if it happens, it's an IC issue and will most likely be handled by staff anyways.

Hi, I'm a person who uses likes this tactic.

Honestly, I think we should keep Welder Tanks as it is. It does/can cause breaches, which is a breach of Rule 9. However, I feel it's quite a good improvised weapon when the Marines are on a last stand and have no grenade resupply. It doesn't do gigantic collateral damage and doesn't even kill alien nor marine easily either.

An improvised explosive is an improvised explosive. AND marines all together have just have 10 grenades (2 for each squad leader 2 in secure crate) as well as seeing that imo I have rarely seen a squad leader throw a grenade. Mines I've only seen them used on the sulaco. And I don't think it would be meta but correct me if I am wrong. (also how is it meta?)

I view it as meta because of how many explosives the marines have and after talking to some admins it is frowned upon to wielder bomb, not sure if its bannable

Welder tanks are as same as frag grenades. They have the same damage, range and devastation(They can both cause breaches).

ow... my feelings, and metagaming is any tactic that goes beyond pre-dictated rules. And after seeing some people banned for pushing and pulling wielder tanks I think it may qualify

Metagaming is using information your character should not have, like welding vents before a xeno vent-crawls.

You're thinking of powergaming, which is playing to win; things like the field medic that just happens to have an advanced medical scanner built into his head and instantly know that a marine is infected, what they are infected with and how to remove it.

Red... Welder bombs are a last man tactic. Like if you have 5 warriors breaking through robo's window you fire off the welder tank in there

And here I was thinking that it was some sort of secret common knowledge among medics...

If you would permaban a player, you owe it to him to look into his logs and hear his side of the story. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the player does not deserve to be banned.
