Going Prone
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Allow marines to go prone on the ground to dodge their friendlies incoming fire.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
In general, being able to crawl around would prevent A LOT of friendly fire deaths, but also open yourself up to being captured by aliens more easily since you're on the ground and can't move fast.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Basically, like the rest command, you would be able to drop to the ground allowing you to dodge bullets from friendlies who are also not prone, and you would be able to crawl VERY slowly (slower than walking or grabbing someone). You would also be able to shoot while NOT moving, and would be unable to shoot while moving, perhaps needing to ready yourself before shooting. If grabbed, or dragged around it would act as if you just got tackled to the ground and you would be unable to do anything again, and possibly drop whatever you're holding like normal.
You would (preferably) also be unable to shoot over certain objects like flipped tables due to being prone causing your bullets to be blocked by the table. Crawling could also be used to be able to crawl under un-flipped tables as well, allowing marines a way to get around their ridiculous structures quickly.
Going prone would NOT let you dodge alien spit (for balance reasons), and would NOT let you dodge melee strikes and such. It also would not reduce damage in any way, shape, or form. It's simply a way to dodge incoming fire from marines without entirely leaving yourself open.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Make it a verb, like rest, possibly make it take longer to get up or get down from than rest.
NOTE:
It's alright if it's a crouch feature instead of a prone feature as well.

Re: Going Prone
I was thinking about this WAY back and how they would implement it would be I think hard but you also need to sprite it showing you are prone in all four directions as well all the cosmetics but fuck sake +1

Re: Going Prone

Re: Going Prone
That's why I said for balance purposes, it's not illogical at all actually. An enemy would shoot AT the person on the ground, a friendly wouldn't.Triel Wolfblood wrote:good idea but not dodging spits is illogical. the balance here gone to hell anyway

Re: Going Prone
Sorry, but I'm going to have to give this idea a -1.
An idea like this would take a significant amount of effort from the Dev team with not a lot of benefits. We're already strained enough working on the Alpha, and I believe adding prone would only add unnecessary confusion.

Re: Going Prone
What we should know:
Prone = Rest, "You're now resting". (Just learn this one, more than laying on the floor.)
P.S. This sounded like crouching, where you are barely moving at walking speed.

I'm not a coder but it seems like this would be somewhat easy to do.
For example: Copy code for resting, make it so you can move one tile per 5 ticks. And then allow item use and disable item drop.

Re: Going Prone
It's an idea for the future, not necessarily now. After alpha is finished up, this could be a feature added in later to differentiate the server even further, and make combat less frustrating for everyone.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:Sorry, but I'm going to have to give this idea a -1.

Re: Going Prone
Prone could be replaced with "kneeling" or "crouching" and it'd work the same. I'd like it either way.apophis775 wrote:I could see maybe kneeling, but not prone.

Re: Going Prone
This is not possible with how the bay systems work. Denied.
