Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Make Janitor an optional assignment that can be played on board the NMV Sulaco. Include supplies for this role along with a proper room to fit. This room would include the items previously found in the Old Sulaco map. Allow access to the disposal area(s) along with other basic access entry points.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This addition will ensure the ship is not a complete and total mess (as most of the test rounds so far have ended) The ship will be in a much more healthy state of position enabling it's crew to run much more efficiently. On terms of making the roleplay as immersive as possible, the ship would quickly become festered in a terrible odor and germ infested nightmare without the support of cleaned floors, trash pickup, and other instances of filth related issues.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): It's simple really. Once the Janitor is in the game, the ship can begin it's much needed scrubbing. The Janitor, if a trained and competent one, can make his or her rounds throughout the Sulaco, ensuring a clean environment is there.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
- 1. Add Janitor to the optional list of jobs at the startup screen.
1.1 Add Janitor to the Identification computer with it's predesignated access
2. Build in a small "office" where the Janitor can spawn and collect their equipment at. This can be in any suitable place necessary.
3. Watch as the station progressively becomes cleaner.
---NOTE* Results vary on the active Janitor of that time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional Notes:
--The Disposals Vent Button is on the floor and not the wall. (Unsure if this was intentional)
--There are Zero disposal units on the bottom deck of the Sulaco.
--There are a few bugs concerning disposals_Please see:viewtopic.php?f=116&p=23156#p23156
--Viscera Cleanup Detail is a game available on steam that puts you in the role a Janitorial position after a station's attack from Aliens! Similar scenarios, eh? Check it out, here-->http://store.steampowered.com/app/246900/
--A working ship with a high populated crew should never look like this
This actually isn't that bad, I should have gotten a picture the previous round...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
Now I get it, honestly I do. This job is not necessarily Needed. I believe this is a more personal problem rather than a server wide one. And on that personal note, this is my favorite position to play on the Colonial Marines server. If the request for Janitor is not accepted, I fully understand and will find passion in another pursuit on the ship.
This is my request. This is my plea.
Thank you for reviewing my post, Stay Clean~
Your Janitor, Cub Johnson

As much as I love this idea, the rules say that a janitor is a demotion only job.

Indeed so. That, of course, could be a possible change too.
Myself personally, would Honorably accept this "demotion" post haste.

Get rid of that terrible rule then so we can have a Sulaco that isn't red every round.

Janitor will NOT be a job in the Alpha.
The Marines, wouldn't be wasting space and money transporting a useless person. IRL, the ships crew does the cleaning.

Can we at least have the proper equipment for it...?
I'm struggling to see why the ship wouldn't at least carry the essentials like the previous ship?
Really didn't hurt game-play or anything and honestly this ship is a bigger mess than the previous.

Perhaps this is true.
I was unaware that a person who keeps the ship clean is "useless."
Also, the shortage on supplies is understandable. After all, paying for extra Janitorial supplies is very very expensive. Trash bags, space cleaner, the Janitor's rubber boots, they are all examples of such high end and unnecessarily costly equipment. Most of these supplies can actually even be ordered via Supply Shuttle using the Supply points which are generated as the shift goes on.

This is entirely true.
However, this is not real and the Marines on Sulaco (usually) couldn't care less about simply throwing trash away, cleaning blood splattered everywhere, and ensuring the ship is nice and tidy.
Let's say for the fact that it is real- I'd expect marines to throw away trash, not leave items such as guns simply lying on the floor everywhere, and even the possibility of them to act at a normal level when every single tile of the ship is covered in blood.
If it's real, people could easily slip on the amount of blood splattered everywhere.
The ship would have a foul smell effecting everyone's moral.
All of these other REAL events would take place, but sadly, this is a game. And this game gets messy- quickly.
I apologize for criticizing you it's just that this is a very important role to me personally on the server and It's my duty to stand by it and help it become whole.

+1 mainly for the response Cubscout gave you, Apop. Wouldn't be that much of a deal if you just took an existing area and just added a janitorial locker with a few supplies and stuff or something.
As for just the crew doing the cleaning.. What about the boatswain's mate? Isn't that the navy equivalent of janitor anyways?
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/bm.htm could just be an additional job later.

Marines clean their own mess. We need cleaning closets on the decks, not janitors.

Lets be realistic here and logical. No fucking player is cleaning shit, honestly. Let's not even try that argument because it NEVER happens.
I understand in a real military thats how it works, but this is a video game with younger children and young adults. Their parents can't get then to clean their own rooms, they aren't going to pick up that cyber pizza they just dispensed all over the cyber floor.

That's where the Janitor would come into play, see. It would be their duty to keep things clean
It can be a rather boring task but someone has to do it. If nobody does the place will look like a disaster. I'm fairly certain you know what I mean.
And in this game, while the chances of a marine putting ANY effort towards cleaning is slim, they should be off doing something of better use of their time rather than scrubbing away viscera and other amounts of gore.
Props should be given to those that clean their plates and tracked footprints. This hardly happens due to marines (and other occupations) being busy with their own problem at the time.
Clayton_Kelly wrote:So there will be a dirty ship. Still need cleaning closets.
Yes, we need the closets, but I don't believe it is logical for a marine to work with suds during a pandemic such as an Alien threat. "My team is on the front lines and could use assistance, guess I better mop the halls instead!"
As of right now, there is no rule stating that marines must keep the area clean. (Obviously because this is a game where they should be off fighting and due to how short games are [rather than real life scenarios] they should focus on their goal.) However, if a role was created whose sole purpose was to ensure a hygienic nomenclature then everyone would be on task and doing as they should.
Now, should this stop marines from occasionally throwing away their empty wrappers and plates? Of course not. They are obligated to do so. Clean floors? Absolutely-they may! But getting back to reality, marines are set on their objective, not cleaning like in real life terms.
When talking about this matter, I was told this: "People of their department should clean it."
This is also true, doctors should clean the blood around medbay, engineers do the same around engineering, and the high ranking officers and bridge operatives would dispose of any mess there as well. However, once again, there is no confining rule that forces them to do this. Even if that were true, what about the halls? It isn't necessarily enforced for a doctor to straggle out of his line of work and clean up the grimes of the chow hall.

You're completely correct. The crew does do the cleaning, which is why we need a janitorial closet.

The message of Marines cleaning up their own mess is more about someone deciding to clean, whenever they have time, motivation, and supplies.
I don't care for getting children to clean the ship or cleaning when there is an alien threat.

Sadly, shifts don't hold a lot of time as rounds are composed of only a few hours of combat. Cleaning rarely occurs.
The marines show little to no motivation when it comes to cleaning as my reviews have shown. Given- This doesn't mean everyone. Good job you select few.
At this moment, the only supplies available are cleaning sprays located in Medbay, one mop bucket (without a mop) and one Janitorial cart (without supplies)
Of course you could order them from the supply shuttle, but that would require additional time and someone with access to do so.

cleaning the ship during a mission, is not a priority.
Denied.
