Summary (a quick,long-ass summary ... But important):



So the idea ... Make an entirely new map in pure open space. Just the sulaco. But the map has functions, where random events like meteors can still be a thing. Or shuttles with WY PMCs/commandos/other antags or RP factions ... Anything really, that could interfere with the sulaco each/every couple rounds and make them each varied and different like on normal station servers. Progressive RP can be a thing this way, possibly make this the default gamemode and map... And other maps can be an added bonus to make even more variation. Coupled with the extra roles in the Alpha, and maybe more in the future.. Think it would work well. The only issue, with the xenos though .. They may not appear as much. But the chance for an infected station could always be increased. And when a station map with infestation occurs, we could perhaps code in randomly generated objects on the map to differentiate them.. With the names being different for each station obvs. Due to progressive RP, when marines and xenos meet eachother again after many times they will have to find find new ways to defeat eachother and/or regular updates to balance the outcomes and provide an everchanging world with these two clashing sides. (And many others.)

Absynth has mentioned it, that eventually .. We will more like SS13, rather than 'AvP: SS13 edition'.. But with many (MANY) more opportunities, and an entirely different theme.

If we get this, appart from ground map and stations, we could also get ground map agaisn't heavily armed soldiers, or resistance and shit, or space pirates, not just aliums and PMCs, +1!

+1 Excellent idea however I fear this would take a good duration to code until after the Alpha is more balanced. Or alot of people might not like how every round is not Xenomorphs.

However it's a terrible time to discuss something like this on a grand scale when Alpha is still getting bugs hammered out of it.

Yeah, i know pink ... This thread doesn't necessarily need to be discussed right during this period, or be dead forever either.. Maybe just repost or give more ideas for a more appropriate time when it doesn't sound as overwhelming. :>

This sounds interesting, although when marines die there would have to be an RP explanation for why they keep coming back, besides cloning which I'm pretty sure would have a bunch of its own problems

Or actually follow the rules of clone syndrome. You know that a clone isn't supposed to remember how they died, or even that they died if its their first time, right? Knowing that they're a clone can cause a panic attack and immediate psychological harm.

This would be a SILLY amount of work, especially for the new sulaco, which doesn't really fit this.


HOWEVER, I am working on the beginnings, of a similar project. More information to follow eventually.

I would enjoy this alot as it breaks up the constant fighting and with the added bonus of a hull breach so that M t's have something to do.

I don't really understand this suggestion. Would it just be random events the mode? Would the Sulaco come to situations randomly that the marine-swarm deals with and otherwise "twiddles their thumbs" sitting around in the meantime? How would player retention be handled? Etc.

If most of the crew are marines who are in cyro until needed, what would be going on here?

Random events the mode ... Eh, you could describe it like that i guess. It would be equivalent to a normal SS13 station round except with the sulaco and marines, and much more stuff happening/different lore entirely. I hardly imagine them 'sitting around'. Other jobs might take more priority depending. By player retention (badly worded?) i'm going to assume you mean how are we going to handle the players ... Well, like usual except rounds would be more unpredictable.

Most of the crew doesn't literally have to be marine players in cryo.. There are other jobs, but like i literally said in my suggestion there could be various things for the marines to encounter/deal with.

It's super easy to tell if someone's been cloned, because ICly their tattoos would be gone, their beard would be gone, and they'd grow hair.

The vast majority of the crew are marines. There's be a lot of sitting around if there wasn't anything to fight, which is somewhat implied to be random and unpredictable.

Player retention refers to, you know, player retention. Players leave. Important slots, even, especially over very long rounds. The crew of the Sulaco actually has relevantly few slots, so it'd hurt for each goner.

I'm not a coder, but i'm pretty sure you could increase the limit for those other roles if need be. The chance for random events or distress calls for the sulaco to respond to could always be increased as well .. And admins can (if they know what they're doing) add to the round if it's going slow or whatnot.

I think the sulaco we have now, in itself, has enough potential to be used for RP rounds.. Maybe redesign some areas or expand more.

The main idea i had though, which i'm thinking more about now is the sulaco in space as the default start. The sulaco will be sort of 'moving' though maybe not visually, but things like for example maybe derelicts in space are generated near the sulaco after some time.. An EVA section could be fleshed out on sulaco so people could go out and investigate. Or maybe instead of a derelict appearing, a prison colony in disarray.. Or research station, etc. And it would be different each round.

Also, what if sulaco was given two evacuation options? Like, if the operation in question is a complete stalemate but most of the personnel and marines are fine they can have the bridge personnel redirect the vessel to a marine base or something. And if the vessel itself is beyond saving then the normal escape pods could be activated.

Idea- Xeno-Mutants: AI controlled creatures like Space Carp/Huge Spiders who hunt down Humans and Pred, MAYBE aliens? Like they're not apart of the Hivemind or somthing? Dunno, here, a Xeno-Spider!

Might be cool to do a naval conflict round. Instead of landing on the planet, an enemy warship appears, extends a bridge between the two and a war erupts

I feel like, a "random events mode" would be a population killer, since the marines would get restless and start shooting each other.

however, maybe a "ship vs ship"i mode could be done.

Actually a "Ship vs Ship" mode could probably be made pretty easily.

The question would be, how to split everything up, cause I can EASILY see people getting ULTRA PISSY during shootouts, since bullets are so lethal.

Well in theory the backstory to the ship vs ship battle could be both are trying to escape and run from the xenos who 'boarded' them earlier but were pushed back, and due to that boarding both ships have low supplies but.. on the other ship could be something the crew of ship 2 wants etc.

That's a kind of idea.. if we have two war torn ships from a previous battle..

Maybe not xenos who boarded earlier but something that did atleast.
