The Face Hug and infection dilema!

Post by Kovain1812 » 09 Jul 2015, 15:49

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Make it so you have one prolonged blackout when infected, once you wake up, youre awake until you pop. - Facehuggers should also fall off on their own when they are dead. any attempts to remove the huggers should result in death for the marine.
Eggs should only be allowed in the nest, and hugger numbers should be reduced out side of the nest area, to balance the major buff they would receive with no longer being removable prior to infection.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Stop the horrendous blackouts where a marine will escape from the nest only to collapse a split second later, then spend 5 mins blacked out with a 5-6 second period of being awake every 30 seconds. re-enforce the RP elements of infection and stop the meta!

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): this would tie in with the films pretty well as in the first film, the Chestburst scene was so amazing because of how unexpected it was. everyone on Nostromo thought the dude was fine, even he did. The prolonged blackout, would serve as Solid RP grounds for marine memory loss, meaning you shouldnt know whats happened when you wake up or that your infected until its common knowledge. the huggers being slightly Buffed would mean the number could be reduced outside of the nest, and they should no longer be thrown around like grenades.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):Just make it so once the hugger has infected someone, that person will have a blackout that lasts a short while (60% of infection time?) then once awake, they cease to black out and appear at full health. although they are extremely hungry when they wake up.

+1 Very descriptive, and I am one of those Marines that screams, "ITS INSIDE ME" once I'm infected, so this would be great!

And then the medical hud ruins everything...

If you would permaban a player, you owe it to him to look into his logs and hear his side of the story. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the player does not deserve to be banned.

Couldn't you just delete the specific code for the medical hud that shows the infection up?

I like the suggestion, but this part troubles me:

"any attempts to remove the huggers should result in death for the marine."
Aliens are currently just running and slapping/dropping huggers around the marines, and they latch every time.

Here's what I think of this suggestion:

I am all-in for stealthy infections, but I don't like the long 5-minutes starting blackout time and the irremovable facehugger.

To achieve stealthy infections, the infection icon will be removed from the medical HUD, and facehuggers will "die" immediately after latching. That way, marines can't metagame "the hugger's dead, he's infected" or "the hugger's alive, he's fine."

From here are two ways to achieve stealthy infections:
a) Remove all infection symptoms.
If you've been facehugged and you cough two minutes later, you'll meta the shit out of that cough. Same goes for sore throat or coughing blood.

b) Add nocebo symptoms.
If you've been facehugged, there's a x% chance that you'll suffer from nocebo symptoms. The symptoms last for five minutes or until you're scanned by an Adv. Medical Scanner.

my point is to reduce the amount of huggers, maybe only let carriers carry them? definitely not runners/warriors, they should really not be thrown like grenades more cleverly placed/hidden?

i just feel atm the hugger paradigm is getting old, one alien tackles whilst another slaps a hugger on, there is literally NO defence against this as it stands, but if the hugger mechanics where changed so they couldnt survive long away from the nest or queen or something it might help balance the issue of almost if not always getting infected, Lore-wise taking them off kills the victim and i think that would help marines to take it slow and actually use tactics.

might affect the aliens gameplay style, but as it stands its more mechanics balancing than lore focused, i understand why but a few little tweeks IMO would go a long way for atmosphere.

Denying/locking this.

We are reworking the infestation system already.
