Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Have one position as a platoon leader which is a ground based officer and reports to the bridge.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
- Prevents bridge staff from coming down.
- Ensures there is always a backup leader for a squad as squads become disorganized and leaderless
- Officer on the ground allows better analyzing of the situation to determine how to organize squads
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
I like an XO on the ship, but if we're going to add an officer, add a platoon leader. Command can't give good orders if they are restricted to the ship and don't get reports from squads. Especially when squad leaders are killed. All they can do is infer what's going on by radio, and coordinate 4 squads on the ground. A platoon leader is better able to organize the squads together on the ground.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Add a platoon leader, which is outfitted like a squad leader. Could have a small room added in barracks area or by the bridge.

+1 to this earlier bravo had no lead and had to just follow charlie around.. kind of annoying so platoon leader would sort that problem out.

Sounds great! Sorta like the eyes and ears for the commander.

I really like this idea. They should be like an intermediary between a Logistics(Bridge) Officer and a Squad Leader.
They should be able to modify IDs/squad assignments (like LOs) but are also deployed on the ground to coordinate Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/Delta from the frontline as opposed to sitting on the Sulaco.

Sadly we need this because of bad SLs who only want power, and don't do their job. So something that is made JUST for this will be good.

My fault, I joined as bravo leader, got 3 sec ping pong, got to the sleepers and joined as pAI, then the screen started to freeze and the connection dropped constantly, i gave up and went to bed.
+1 For Lt. Gorman, xD.

To be fair, nothing prevents the Commander assigning a Platoon Leader - it doesn't have to be scripted in. As it's essentially a renamed Logistics Officer with ground based duties.
(Although I am definitely in favour of having adding it as a more permanent role)

I have a question regarding this...
Will players obey their orders? We've got power gamers to handle.

If they don't obey the SLs they won't obey the platoon leaders. If they obey the SLs they will obey the Platoon leader.

The good thing about the alpha is.. if they go off by themselves they will die within a couple of minutes, where as the rest of the squad will be fine as they followed orders and stuck as a group.

Half the time players don't follow squad leader's orders. But we still have them to help coordinate them. I see the same thing for Platoon Leaders.

Will players obey the commander?
Will players obey the squad leaders?
Will plays obey the admin-sent officals?
The answer is no, they won't listen to them.
Jokes aside, if they don't then they can get ahelped for being a fucknut.

I think that this would be great for organizing players into an actual fighting force in the field. Would be very helpful indeed.

Fucking... Haven't I denied this SEVERAL times?
No.
If a ground commander is needed, the command can go and place an LO in charge.
ALTERNATIVLY on the alpha,
A commander can send the XO, or he himself can go. Or hell, send a BO.
