[Resolved] Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
Your Byond Key: Youbar
Your character name: Ludwig Austerlitz
Their Byond key: ???
Approximate time and date of the incident (Central Us Time for best results): 1:20 AM 18th July
Which Admin Protocols (http://goo.gl/fBUQGG) were broken: Section 2, conducts 0, 2
Description of the incident: I had set up a piano to the north of the main colony dome out of the way of most of the players, and set it up to play a tune for anybody going by. Later on, it gets deleted by an admin. I repeatedly ahelped (three times) and asked who deleted it, and got no proper answer. I (luckily) ended up finding a violin.
Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc):
[First ahelp, answer from Abby] PM to-Staff (Gameplay/Roleplay question): What have you got against pianos?
Developer PM from-Absynth: some people have small pianists
PM to-Absynth: What..? No, an admin just deleted the piano I was playing. I intentionally put it out of the way so other people wouldn't hear it for long.
Developer PM from-Absynth: Well some admins don't like it, sorry
PM to-Absynth: Some admins don't have to hover over it with their ghost and boil up hatred for it. Sorry.
PM to-Absynth: Who deleted it?
[Second ahelp] PM to-Staff (Gameplay/Roleplay question): Who deleted the piano?
[Third ahelp] PM to-Staff (Gameplay/Roleplay question): So whoooo deleted the piano?
Moderator PM from-Ordukai: Maybe the piano never existed at all. Regardless, you're probably not going to get an answer xD
PM to-Ordukai: I probably will once this admin complaint is done regarding abuse of power.
Moderator PM from-Ordukai: Fair enough.
How you would punish the accused: I don't know the rules regarding admin conduct and the appropriate punishments, so don't ask me. All I know is that this seems to be an abuse of power to me (conduct 0), made worse by the fact that nobody admitted to doing even after ahelping three times. Additionally, I find it hinders the enjoyment of the server (conduct 2), as most players actually enjoy a bit of morale lifting music in a dark atmosphere. But most importantly it breaks Rule 1 - don't be a dick. I'd have been happy to move the piano elsewhere if an admin asked, much like I did when other players told me to turn it off and/or move somewhere else.
To me, the action of deleting the piano was completely uncalled for. The particular issue I have with it is that the piano was out of the way, so clearly an admin did it simply because they could - they don't like the music, and they don't want anybody else potentially enjoying it. That's how I see it, though.
EDIT: This wasn't the incident regarding Apophis yesterday.

Re: Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
For the record, I only responded because whoever deleted it didn't seem willing to respond, and I felt it was rude to just leave him hanging like that.
And I had no response (Not that one was needed) to his reply to my PM.
Other than that, I was not involved.

TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

Re: Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
Sorry to be frank but I literally just put a post about this sorta situation right here: viewtopic.php?p=25283#p25283
This is from my point of view-
Claiming they broke Section 2's rule, Conduct 2- I am the one who technically submitted the complaint about the situation.
Though I did not say anything ingame, my thread was posted sometime ago involving the issue.
I will have to take side with the admins on this part of the situation.
The only problem I see is there was nobody informing Youbar of the situation.
A brief, simple explanatory chat would have cleared this up simple.
I would understand why the piano was deleted, however if I wasn't even notified that an admin deleted it or alerted me of such I'd be confused/upset due to that.
That could even prompt me to make a whole bug report just on account of it disappearing!
Final point though:
The piano was rightfully deleted, in my opinion.
However there should have been some communication between both parties.

Re: Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
To play the piano, all you do is important a list of notes from a particular Wiki. You do not sit there clicking at it to make it play - it plays automatically. I was not distracted from combat - in fact, if I needed to it, I could immediately switch to my rifle on my back and shoot, leave the piano's vicinity, and it'd still play. You seem incredibly misinformed about how "playing" a piano works. The only reason it was deleted was because it made sound an admin didn't like.TheCubscout wrote:Sorry to be frank but I literally just put a post about this sorta situation right here: viewtopic.php?p=25283#p25283

I'm fully aware of how "playing" it works.
You input the the keys and chorus notes and it automatically plays through them in the prerecorded beats.
More than likely someone simply copies and pastes the notes and you're done but that still doesn't disregard the fact that you probably shouldn't be playing it anyways.'
For roleplay purpose, does your character even know how to play it? (Obviously since anyone basically can)'
For realism playing the piano would alert the enemy of your presence.
The whole point of all of this is to show that you don't need to be playing your tunes in the brink of a mission.

Re: Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
It brings an element of fun and enjoyment to the game, and makes the mood better (e.g cantina bar music while shuttle is heading back home with wounded). I do not understand your (or anybody's) intense dislike for pianos. If you had a problem, tell the player to move it somewhere else or to pay attention. I don't think I can make it clearer - pianos aren't the problem and shouldn't be blamed for a marine's incompetence. If you see a marine laying around playing the piano, chances are their SL hasn't been giving out orders or command staff has completely lost the initiative the mission should have at all times.TheCubscout wrote:

To address your points - games are about gameplay. If you want to bring realism into this argument, then here's one - "For realism, Janitors do not exist aboard any naval vessel because the crew is assigned shifts for cleaning", or if you prefer, "For realism, aliens would instantly incapacitate a human with a slash of their claws, because they are quite literally born to kill", or "For realism, a marine who had just lost both of their legs in combat and is on a wheel chair would be laying in a hospital bed with an IV drip and constant morphine, not defending the Sulaco hangar from invading aliens". Realism isn't an argument here.
For roleplaying, this is a medium RP server. I don't have to be a bartender or a mime to know how to play the piano - I just need to act in a reasonable manner, and saying you have piano skills from back home isn't exactly a far stretch. Cloning would be something very difficult to set up (much unlike playing the piano), but do you see admins banning marines for attempting to clone their comrades? What about admins banning marines for conducting surgery on their comrades when all the medical doctors have gone AFK? Maybe those two issues would be better to address than a marine playing a piano.

Marines would not be able to play a piano during battles... Isn't that simple?

I don't sit on my seat and play the piano during a battle, don't worry. It does it itself - completely automated equipment.UnknownMurder wrote:Marines would not be able to play a piano during battles... Isn't that simple?

Technicly playing the piano in a secluded area instead of doing your job breaks the do your assigned job rule.....maybe the competent marine rule too

I wouldn't exactly say guarding the northern entrance to the main dome isn't doing my job, Coronel. Simply because I have an automated piano playing it seems like I'm not doing my job? You can guard a vital place and have it be (aside from the piano) relatively quiet at the same time.coroneljones wrote:Technicly playing the piano in a secluded area instead of doing your job breaks the do your assigned job rule.....maybe the competent marine rule too

Re: Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
From what you said,it just seemed like you found a small hidden area for yourself and stayed there with the piano.
The explanation helps

I went through the logs and no one deleted any piano... I think your trying to blame my staff on the work of aliums...

Yes, it's an odd bug then or aliens (predotars) throwing invisible acid onto it. Just never thought that the piano of all things would spontaneously combust, and suspected an admin was targetting me.Lucyz wrote:Pretty sure this is resolved then if a staff member did not delete it, Correct Youbar?

Re: [Resolved] Pianos being Deleted without Warning nor Reason
Is this a legit complaint?
Because, I have an easy solution to it. I'll just have the pianos removed.
If staff thinks the pianos are a distraction, they will delete them.

Well, to me it was legitimate - an admin being a dick and deleting the piano without informing me the reason they did so. Turns out it was a bug, hence why I changed the title to "Resolved".apophis775 wrote:Is this a legit complaint?

Yeah this is being moved in 10 hours if no more further input is given that is on topic to this than.
