Naming weapons

Post by Dinobubba7 » 20 Jul 2015, 15:30

CM Version (alpha or Regular): Both

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): You being able to name your weapon to any name you want, via using a pen on it

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It would give the server a since of realism, because most marines IRL do name their guns.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): You would just grab the weapon, and a pen, and name in by using the pen.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Or, even without the pen, find a codebase where certain firearms (i.e the Detective's M1911/other handgun) have the rename-gun verb, and carry over that code and apply it to all firearms available to the CMC.

-1 and +1 -- a bit in between on support.

I think that this is something that would be better used as a donation reward/thanks. since it is completely cosmetic

It serves no higher purpose that benefits the server. I see it as a snazzy donation perk.

Not a bad idea, just mildly pointless for this type of server.

Also wouldnt be a fan of the whole...

+1
We're lazy and we know coding this is simple.
But... I would like to name my Magnum... Single Colt Action Army... Do this and I might donate for a Major Ocelot uniform.

But no really, naming weapons would be sweet but knowing the internet peoples it would ruin any remaining immurshun left. Although Marines aren't known for their really eloquent naming of their weapons so it could also be a fun little addition.

I'm neutral.

Also neutral because you will get troll marines naming their gun something extremely stupid or inappropriate.

'FartBlaster900' is not a marine weapon, but I promise you it and similar names will be used.

I can go either way on this.

1. Naming weapons is a military tradition. For example my M249-B was named "Big Bertha" and my M9 was named "Tiny Pete", since I used them in concert.

2. 85% of marines in USCM are retarded, and we'd get "FARTKNOCKER 9001" for weapon names.

I feel like, if we did this, we'd have to add a rule and I'd rather not do that.

Other players shouldn't know your weapon's name unless they actually want to know.
