Predator Idea...
So, it was suggested to me, we do a bit of a special thing with predators.
Here's what we are currently thinking of doing:
Before you are white-listed, you will participate in an "admin-run" hunt. Basically, an admin, will lead a team of whitelist applicants. If you don't screw up as a pred, you'll get whitelisted (even if you die). Your name will be added to the whitelist, along with "Bloodied" as a rank, and your clan name.
NOW, here's where it gets interesting. *IF* in-game, you distinguish yourself as a predator, and it is felt that you are an exceptional predator, your rank will be changed to "Elite".
Further Honor, will give you the title of "Elder/Clan Leader".
To distinguish yourself, promote good RP, don't be a giant dickbag, and follow the predator honor code.
Anyway, what do people thing?

Re: Predator Idea...
Oh, Don't just +1 this please. I'm looking for feedback/suggestions on how to adjust this.
I want to try to make this, an RP aspect, and involve the players as much as possible.

I digress, this idea that was being tossed around seemed great and I'd love to help out personally.

Re: Predator Idea...
I think you could add the extra ranks that come after blooded, if they distinguish themselves.
It goes like this
Youngblood (default that newcomers start as) > Blooded (they have passed a Kiande Amedha trial) > Hunter (Fairly good) > Warrior (Very good and is closer to an Elite/Overseer) > Elite > Clan leader (this should be very hard to get, so the player should be able to show that he has good IC leadership qualities aswell, i.e. helps/directs youngbloods and lower ranked a lot)
Anything beyond that might be a bit too overkill, i think

Re: Predator Idea...
I like this idea for the RP aspect and the general idea behind this.
However I think the general idea of organizing something like this is a lot more complicated. Having set "Admin-Run" hunts would be difficult based on the fact that not everyone can be on during the same times.
I myself am a Firefighter, my schedule varies and I'm on call in case some house spontaneously explodes. Apophis, I think you can relate as you've said you work full-time as a University teacher.
Short-term this idea would work, however down the line it would become less organised and honestly probably a bit forgotten. It's hard to get people on for set times and really wouldn't be fair to have someone's entire application and process to be depended on certain set times.. It's almost wasted potential, especially if you know the individual is a really good RPer but they can't make the Admin-Hunts. It's silly to base applications around in-game hunts when you know anyone you've accepted for White-List isn't going to be your common murder-boner asshole.
What I propose is something more fair but still progressive towards the RP idea.
The Predators should have a set Leader, for now a Admin would take command of this position but overtime it could be replaced by a actual member of the group. Instead of forcing the new Predators into a set Admin-Hunt they should be monitored in-game progressively. Open a Sub-Forum for the Predators to discuss things related to the clan and new members.
Essentially, you'd create a small community of Predators/Players who would actively RP together and make decisions for the Clan themselves. If someone has been awful in the clan lately the players can bring it up on the forums and work it out among'st themselves. Rank would also play a part in this as well, as the Clan Leader could call votes and events for certain nights into play. The Clan itself will judge the Young Bloods themselves without any Admin intervention, which creates a independent division that doesn't require constant admin attention. (Aside from removing individuals if they're voted out)
The first wave of Whitelist Predators would be all competent Staff Members and Donators.. This would be the foundation of the Clan which after a month would be competent and secure enough to pave the way for the influx wave of open Applications. Which then, if really need be you'd have enough members already set in the clan to host their own Event-Hunts for un-blooded.
Also ranking system is usually: Un-Blooded/Young Blood - Blooded - Elite - Clan Leader [ Ancients/Veterans being retired Yautja] ( Bad Bloods being Outcast )
Essentially, I'm against any forced Admin-Hunts or forced Initiation events into being a Predator. It's not balanced enough for numerous reasons to base people's application solely on single round events. Instead, create a actual Clan and allow it to run the RP elements of the Yautja Clan's.. this will essentially create a more lively and active Predator group that moderates itself. Which is what you want from the Predators, a RP focused environment instead of a "Admin-Hunt" in-game based around the shitty BYOND Engine and mechanics.
TL;DR? : Create a actual Yaujta Clan, allow it to govern itself and kick or remove Predators who are shit out themselves. Don't base applications on 1 round "Admin-Hunts" because no one who gets white-listed should ever be a shit RPer, so the Hunt would solely be based on skill in-game.
I'll also be opening a new topic for Predator suggestions coming up... so check that out soon. It'll tie into this a bit more, but also for balance.

Re: Predator Idea...
The reason it would be admin run, is becasue the admin would be the one taking "responsibility" for that predator being whitelisted.
And, we'd schedule around your availability. We do have, around 24-hour admin coverage to work with, if we get people off their lazy asses.

Easy +1, nothing to add or comment.
HONOR OR DEATH
I just wish I could write a good backstory.

Re: Predator Idea...
I would assume around once or twice every two weeks. This way whitelist can come in and everyone can get a chance to participate.Aeleto wrote:Interesting, but how frequently would said initiation events happen? I figure it would have some sort of schedule?

Re: Predator Idea...
Pretty much, we'd talk to people who got accepted for whitelist, and determine a good time for them/us.

Question: if we screw up on our "blood baptism" and be denied, can we try on a later event?

of course, it would be stupied to not allow you to try again, you cannot expect everyone to get it on the first tryLordLoko wrote:Question: if we screw up on our "blood baptism" and be denied, can we try on a later event?

Re: Predator Idea...
If you live in a far off time zone like I do (New Zealand), you probably won't be able to join the once or twice weekly events for this. I'd rather that predators are distinguished by admins observing excellent roleplay, allowing the player's imagination and creativity to run wild. I'm sure if players can put in a good enough whitelist application and get accepted (to get accepted, they have to have shown good roleplay skills beforehand anyway), they're more than capable of being a predator.

Re: Predator Idea...
Additional utility abilities and such for the higher ranks would be ideal, and it'd give incentive for predator candidates to roleplay with their targets and aspire to advance as a good predator. Mo' RP, mo' fun things to play with.

Re: Predator Idea...
The top two post are essentially what I suggested and wrote further above.
Seems silly to want to have such strong RPer's and players driven by common sense to balance the Predators. Then have a Admin-Hunt that will depend on robustness/round fluidity.
The reason I'm all for natural moderation of the Clan by itself is for a simple obvious reasons.. Anyone playing predator for the first bit will be shit, the mechanics will be difficult and mistakes will be made. It would be unfair to judge people who you know are competent and good players based solely on single admin-hunts with no prior experience.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the idea of this.. just not so it's so impacting towards the white-listed players. Rather their be weekly Clan hunts organised by actual ranking system.
As I said, just my opinion and really I'm fine with anything in the end.
