Buffing the Sniper-rifle
CM Version (alpha or Regular): Alpha
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): The Sniper rifle... well honestly, it's pretty much worthless. It severely lacks damage, for the length of time it takes to fire. I propose, that it recieves improved damage, or more amunition.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Well, for one thing, It actually provides a reason to use the sniper-rifle. I really want to use it, it's firing sound is amazing.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Currently, I've used the sniper rifle multiple times, and it doesn't seem to do much damage at all. EX: a runner, surviving atleast 5 shots from two snipers shoot at it. For a gun that has 3 magazines, and 7 shots a magazine... it is severely lacking. Simply increasing the damage should suffice.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I'm not saying it should kill runners in one-hit, but maybe two-three-four hits would be nice? And even if you don't want it to be more damaging, Add some more ammunition for it, besides three clips.

This needs to happen. The sniper is incredibly hard to hit with so it should be a very punishing weapon to be struck by but that just doesn't seem to be the case. Either improve damage, or make the bullets hit instantaneously. Something needs to change for the sniper to become viable.

Make the Sniper Rifle that takes about... Say 75% of regular human's health... In addition, making it a single bolt action rifle.

Huh? The sniper rifle does -75- brute damage. 75. It is the highest damage weapon in the game. You're not even hitting runners with it, they die in 2 shots to it (and it's not even meant to be used against them). Use it against praetorians, queens, and ravagers.

God, that's so worthless it hurts, old shotgun, a balanced weapon, did 80 damage, the sniper rifle has, what, 15 rounds?
It needs to do at least something like 150 damage, 1 hit runners, 2 hit or so warriors, 6 hit higher tiers, god, instead of trying to reinforce your point that it's balanced you just made it worse, so +1

The balance is NOT the same between the games. There is absolutely no chance the sniper is going to be able to one-shot anything.

Making a weapon instant kill shit, even a runner, is a terrible idea. I agree the damage needs to be buffed, but that's ridiculous. Mostly because you could just camp a door with it and nothing could get in without dieing.

Agreed that the sniper rifle needs a buff. Projectile speed would be the best, I think. Perhaps turning it into a Scoped Laser Rifle to get the instant laser beam effect?

Probably should have (near)instantaneous projectile speed, perfect accuracy and armour penetration such that it's never deflected.

I'm not fully sure for Armour penetration but i can sort of agree with near instantaneous projectile speed, and NEAR perfect accuracy unless some modifications are made. It still has pretty mediocre DPS and clipsize.
I'll bet its accuracy is already close to perfect anyways, so that's probably not much of a buff at all.

I'm aware; I wasn't referring to that; I was referring to Johner's reservation about my other buff proposals, saying that an increase to perfect accuracy in addition to the other buffs probably won't have much of an impact because the sniper rifle is likely already near maximum accuracy.

I've played around with the sniper and I think making the bullet hit instantaneously would be a good idea.
Right now it can be hard to use the sniper due to it being a very situational tool, close range or indoors its useless and outdoors its hampered by the fact that you need light to see any targets. However in the right scenario it can shine. One problem I had was a teammate walking in between me as I was firing, this was worsened over long distances.
Also lets not forget that the sniper is competing with other weapons like the SADAR and Smartgun for usage, a specialist can only take one weapons and if one particular weapon or item is subpar then it won't see use.

Sniper rifle should also probably ignore friendly fire, or have a sharply reduced chance of it because it's... a sniper rifle. Carefully aimed shots, etc...

I don't really have an opinion for now until I use the sniper rifle myself but most specialist prefer the smart gun rather than other weapons for now.

Its more of a choice between the B18 Armour or the Smartgun, most other weapons are too highly situational, force you to forgo a M41A for a SMG, and have somewhat limited ammo.
The Armour is hands down the best armour in the game, making you immune to being pounced on and the helmet being able to stop three facehugging attempts, while not having to sacrifice taking a M41A as well as other spec equipment like grenades or mines.
The Smartgun is also a powerful tool as your getting a 250 round gun that grants you free night vision, a large magazine size (50 rounds), a very easy reloading system, robust damage and to top it all off your bullets are incapable of hitting other marines allowing you to fire freely at targets in crowded areas.
The other three weapons, the Grenade Launcher, SADAR and Sniper Rifle simply demand you sacrifice most of your equipment, lethality, and combat potential for a highly situational gun that is not even that powerful in comparison.

I beg to differ. Entirely. The grenade launcher, and rocket launcher, fit in the armor storage spot allowing you to easily carry them as well as your regular rifle. Not to mention 75 damage is two shots from a machine gun and a machine gun has how many rounds compared to the sniper? At least allow it to near crit tier one aliens. Your talking 16 shots with no way to get more ammo other then mugging other specialists, anything else with low ammo at least stands to chance to kill multiple targets a shot and possibly instant crit. I'd say set it to 100 at least and greatly increase weapon speed, UNLESS you intend to reduce reload speed, cause as is reload speed is SILLY broken. No sniper rifle in the history of humanity has taken 30 seconds to reload when magazine based, and even then a single shot rifle takes a third that time. And we are talking anti armor, that pretty much requires it be a depleted uranium or special tipped .50 cal rounds, cause sniper rifles are always effective against light/medium body armor, and only get differentiated when they are anti light vehicle armor or heavy vehicle armor ((Aka depleted uranium rounds for heavy armor))

And remember that aliens have a 1.5 burn modifier.
