Wiki Changes
I've effected what may well be the first in a long series of changes to the wiki on the marine page.
wiki/Marines
The main idea is to emulate other wiki's in how they organise jobs. This allows for easier expansion when/if new jobs are added as well as allowing each page to focus entirely on one job and thus present more valid information that is relevant. I may also do this for Aliens and the Predator on their own separate pages.
I was tempted to go for the /tg/station style of making the job descriptions humours, but I've held off on that and kept them concise and factual.
Thank you.

Will I write the guides for them?

Re: Wiki Changes
Its a wiki, anyone's free to contribute and it would be grand if people pitched in with the pages.
I need to get a chance to take some good in game pictures of each of the jobs in a default gear set up, otherwise I think going for a job per page system is good as it allows you to focus on a lot of good information for that particular job.

Re: Wiki Changes
My main challenge now is getting good pictures of each job role in a default stance. Meaning before swapping their clothing to a clown suit or something akin.
I'm simply copy+pasting a default looking head onto each picture I can take so all the images are of a default looking mob and not someone with a crazy hair style.

Re: Wiki Changes
If anyone wants to help write up the job descriptions/guides that would be appreciated. If you want a hint on how each a page should be written just refer to how other wiki's like Baystation or /tg/ do theirs.

Re: Wiki Changes
I've done a good update of the 'Marine Equipment' page, updating everything to look nicer as well as adding more info and correct names for weapon: wiki/Marine_Equipment

Re: Wiki Changes
Damn. Really nice work. I like your style.
EDIT: I'll work on the job descriptions.
EDIT2: Huh, you already did pretty damn well with the descriptions.
EDIT3: Steelpoint, you're in the Trusted group now. You have more access to move/edit/delete/etc. Thanks for the help.

Re: Wiki Changes
Thanks, its a on going effort.
I've done some work on the RO page but its unfinished.
I was tempted to start on a Predator page but I was convinced to wait until the Predator is actually finished or at least more stable/playable.

Re: Wiki Changes
I've started rewriting the Specialist's page already. I'm working on detailing the expectations of the job and descriptions for each weapon in a bit more detail than in the gear's page. I'd love to have some input on it, I'm working on it in the discussion page for the article.

Help this man out, wikis are important to maintain.

Re: Wiki Changes
I don't want to overstep my bounds -considering how new I am- but one of the biggest things you could do to help me out is giving me some way to play with all of the items that each job gets, especially specialist. Whether that's just running a test server that I can play as, or just giving me gear for a couple of rounds, something of that nature. If no one's interested in doing these things, I'll just rely on RNG and wait my turn. I'm learning the ins and outs quite well that way, too, and it's giving me time to think about how to write the article anyways.Fritigern wrote:Help this man out, wikis are important to maintain.

Re: Wiki Changes
One of the things we've considered is running a training server for marines to learn all of the gear. It's a bit early in development (read: a prototype design doc for a map that hasn't been made yet) but I like the idea of having one running for players. I'll show this to Apophis and see what he thinks. We might move forward with it.

Re: Wiki Changes
How do I +1 this any more than once? Not only would this help out with new players, but it would seriously help with wiki editing. Honestly, if we could set up some way to do training for each of the basic roles (Medic, Engineer, Specialist, that sort of thing) That would be a godsend. Even if we could show people how to set the engine, that would help a ton.Rahlzel wrote:One of the things we've considered is running a training server for marines to learn all of the gear. Re: Wiki Changes
Well, the "training server" would probably be something like, once a week it's up for a few hours, to prevent abuse or things such as learning exact weapon damage or min/max builds

Re: Wiki Changes
Could see several people from the server coming on to help, also kind of helps for training the surgeons, engineers, field medics, etc. Aliens could also help train newer ones in what to do, were they present. Sort of hands on learning/training whilst combining the wiki's knowledge for new players, or for those wishing to brush up in separate fields.
