Rename Sulaco To Original Name
Summary: I think we should look at renaming the Sulaco to a original ship name instead of using a pre-existing ship. It really makes no canonical sense as to the Sulaco being deployed to fight aliens BEFORE it did in Aliens.
As such I propose we rename the USS Sulaco to the USS Inheritor.
The name 'Inheritor' is based off Joseph Conrad's novel 'The Inheritors'. Of which all USCM ships are named after something used in Conrad's novels, such as the USS Marlow, USS Verloc or the USCSS Nostromo.
Benefits : It would make more sense IC wise for this to be a unique ship being deployed to a unique location, instead of reusing a pre-existing ship that should not be operating in this manner.

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
Not gonna lie but i think Sulaco is a easier name to remember then any of the others unless you have read said books or know what they are..
What i mean by this is most people know the Sulaco from the films and/or have heard of the name Sulaco where as the other names aren't exactly talked about much.
Well that's my view on this..

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
My main concern is that we do seem to want to adhear to the universe's lore as much as possible, yet one of the biggest black marks against the lore is the deployment of the Sulaco in a situation it never was deployed.
The only lore I can find about our game is that it takes place in the year 2150 (29 years before the events of Aliens). Yet from all information I can find (apparently from the Colonial Marines Technical Manual) the Sulaco was constructed in the year 2169, 19 years past 2150. Meaning the Sulaco never even existed yet.
Not to mention all the other concerns setting the game 29 years in the past would bring.

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
I've always thought of it like maybe the ship we're stationed on found a fucked up colony, but the whole thing got covered up and whitewashed Weyland-Yutani (hence how its almost 30 years in the past). As for names:
N.S.S. Formidable
N.S.S. Saratoga
N.S.S. Lexington
N.S.S. Formidable
N.S.S. Saratoga
N.S.S. Lexington

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
I would love to see a lore friendly name, what with the Conrad theme, but I have this sinking feeling that "Rule of Cool" will win out in the end, if we are going to decide on a name.
also, why are we naming things "N.S.S." instead of "U.S.S."? I could've sworn N.S.S. was some acronym convention made up by Baystation for naming NANOTRASEN based ships.
As a suggestion, I would recommend the U.S.S. Patusan, named after the fictional nation in Conrad's "Lord Jim".

Anyways, we could just edit the fluff so that the year in-game is the right one?
EDIT: Year in-game is at least 2541, judging from the notes that each character has in their memories

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
I went with USS Inheritor since it was a nice name I found from a Conrad novel that rolls of the tongue and is keeping with the tradition of naming Aliens ships from Conrad novels.
Ultimantly I simply want to look at coming up with a original name, irrespective if its called Inheritor or Patusan or whatever.

One could simply change the IC stardate. Meh. If the name changes, make it cool like the USS Inheritor, not something stupid.

Jokes asides, I agree with changing it to the U.S.S. Inheritor, or at least another name from the novel.

USCM Inheritor sounds cool to me. While we're at it, we should give the USCM unit on board a name and one or two prior engagements to give people something to work into their backstory

Maybe look at that engagement that involved the actual Sulaco, where it was attacked in orbit by humans.

Re: Rename Sulaco To Original Name
I called them Task Force 37 once, but I was just throwing out a name.
Marine Task Force V-7 "Hammer Down"
Consists of four squads of marines equipped with heavy arms and armor, including those trained in special weaponry, combat medics, and combat engineers. The Task Force is housed in a light cruiser that has been assigned the name USS Sulaco.
Good enough?
