Medical Examination without analyzer

Post by Derpislav » 06 Aug 2015, 06:47

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): The option to get brief summary of damaged body parts without using an analyzer, preferably via a grab+click interaction on a 15-second timer that can be interrupted if you got all the information you needed.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): As for now, medics that have lost their analyzer can't do shit. Roles that don't get access to the analyzer can't even provide first aid. All soldiers are trained in first aid enough to apply splints and stop bleeding, but the only thing stopping them from running an ad-hoc medbay without a medic is the fact they can't see where is the wound. Examine provides info limited to just skin damage, and only to parts visible from under clothing.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): I'd suggest using a passive grab + help intent click to examine someone closely. First two seconds will give you a full-body report of easily visible damage (over a certain threshold, let's say 20 points, or bleeding) and if the patient is suffocating. The next 13 seconds will report smaller wounds, broken bones and fractures on every body part, moving from head to feet. The final step will tell you if the patient has suffered heavy toxins damage.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Throw coders at it until it starts working, alternatively ask Bay how did they make their similar system.

+0.5 You can do field inspections by stripping off their jumpsuit and examining them. You can also try talking to them about where it hurts, or asking other marines what happened. Though, I would be okay with examining telling you that they have clearly broken their leg/arm/hand/head/chest, if the fractures are not hairline fractures. Also you can count their pulse with the Count Pulse verb, and tell if they are bleeding internally from how the pulse count changes.

I like this. It would give you a basic sum of injuries so you're not useless as a medic for a bit. +1.

PSA: There's actually no difference at all in the code between hairline and other fractures. As fracture states go, there's broke, and splinted; that's it; everything else is cosmetics.

When I played doctor at the old CM I got used to detecting injuries just by looking at their visible wounds/symptoms and asking where it was hurting if they were awaken. Not sure how to feel about this.

Except people won't tell you. I've tried to ask where they're hurt many times and all I got was "medic help me" "im dying" "medic" "fuck you medic"

I'll redo how examining the wounds work.
You will be able to examine them without taking off clothes, but it will take few seconds.
I'm not too sure about bones and toxin, as that would make body scanner useless.

Inspect them, and you should be able to see...
