Military Chaplain's.

Post by XanderDox » 12 Aug 2015, 21:57

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_chaplain

A religious-military official enlisted by the USCMC to boost the morale of religious soldiers and provide counselling if required.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Roleplay, it'll give Marine's that have faith in their backstories or just someone wanting RP someone to talk to that is religiously minded, it'll be a fun role for those that enjoy relaxed roles that can still do things.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

-Blessing soldiers and their weapons before deployment
-Deployment to the field to raise morale
-Handling dead bodies, possibly cremation of fallen uncloneables or mass-driving them.
-Counselling for survivors and mentally scarred marines.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

A small room with a desk and chair on either side, and a locker with various religious gear, like crosses, prayers mats, one of those holy water sprinkler things.
A nice uniform for them that is slightly armored, since they are occasionally dispatched into the field to raise morale.
Put their office where the current, empty 'AI Chamber' is, aka inbetween Tcomms and CL's office. Its the perfect place and right near the hangar with marines coming in to talk to, and its the perfect small space.

EDIT:

They could also have a box of rosaries to give out to soldiers before they head of to almost certain death.

As long as they get powermauls and gyrojet pistols.
Lockie 'Furry' Hughes, your local source of annoyance, medicine and Will. E. Coyote engineering. Mostly medicine. Maybe annoyance.

This suggestion lacks ways to fearlessly stride the battlefield arrayed in the armor of God wielding mace and shield to protect the helpless. As such I can't quite +1.

DEAD: Manfred 'Dutch' Hayden says, "RIGHT! The stress was roleplaying. YUP."

I'm going with a -1, it would be a cool job but I'm fed up with every single ss13 server seemingly being obsessed with Space Jesus bible thumping..

Every server? Most servers have a Chaplain position that is completely ignored by the players and really have no reason to have one on a research station.

The Marines however, do have a reason, Military Chaplain's are a real thing and the US themselves has them.

Alright I will rephrase, the old Goon servers, /tg/ servers, and the bay server all has that, and I have seen a lot of players from those three servers on this one, I would then consider it reasonable that they would bring the annoying 'joke' with them.

Yes army chaplains, and navy chaplains exist as separate entities, although no 'marine' specific chaplain service that I know of, but I don't know about the aliens universe specific lore. I agree they are a real thing, and the reason I do not want them is entirely due to meta-dislike for how chaplain characters are normally (not always) played.

Eh, I can see the Chaplain just turning into a normal Marine halfway through the round.

But on the other hand...

If we could do a actual serious Military Chaplain, then yes. If we're going to have this warhammer 40k crap and other stuff then no. To discourage the whole chaplain warrior crap. Just name their job or rank as Padre, because thats what the British call them (and maybe other armies, but i know the British do).

I mean we can try it.. Just having doubts as to whether or not it would be a role taken seriously.

-1.. This seems more of a rip off of a Chaplain set in WH40K and doesn't really seem to fit well in the server.

I can only imagine a chaplain every round typing "Pop Pop Watching heathen's drop" while holding a magnum or something, but you know i can't really see why we shouldn't have this besides that this job requires people to want to rp with said character as the chaplain.

We could add it into the rules, that just like Medical Doctors, Military Chaplains are NOT permitted to bear arms at ANY time. And perhaps are sworn under biblical oath not to do harm or something.

The Warhammer stuff, please stop with it :( This isn't 40k ;P

To be honest I wouldn't mind this at all, not one bit... the problem is, knowing our playerbase of "LOLZWERBADASSMARINESWEDONTGIVAFUKYOLOSWAGGANGSTA420BLAZEIT" marines, for the most part, due to a constant stream of newcomers and young players, there would be a LOT of soldiers just straight up trolling the chaplain and not taking his role seriously at all.

I'd really like this and I wouldn't mind having my marine character myself having a spiritual guide like this, but I just don't think it would work tbh, unfortunately.

I feel like this role could be played well, and they wouldnt even need to focus on Marines not caring about RP, its not hard to approach Marines that actually care, and Im sure marines interested in RP would approach them.

The OP has nothing even remotely related to Warhammer - it's just us being stupid in the comments.
