Job Ban Appeal; Expired Ban

Post by Surrealistik » 13 Aug 2015, 01:48

Beyond ID: Surrealisitk

Character name: Sur 'Bombbro' Lahzar (nick was 'Buildbro' at the time of the ban)

Admin who banned you: Apop?

Initial duration: One week

Duration remaining: Should be none.

Reason for ban: Breaching the Sulaco

Your appeal, including evidence (an http://www.imgur.com album is recommended for multiple screenshots): The ban was for a week; it has since expired.

Also this:
Tetsip wrote:I believe it was discussed a while back whether or not we wanted to make the Sulaco unbreachable like the planet. We decided against it, because of the simple fact the Sulaco is a ship and is prone to breaching because of explosions just like any vessel or vehicle. It takes a bit of explosive power to do it I believe, but once you do it's a completely IC situation.

IE:
If you bust open the Sulaco (with the exception of griefing) it's an IC situation.
You may be tried and disciplined for destruction of government property and the death of any person as a result of your negligence.
Given that the marines were in a desperate situation and we knew it, I felt those actions were definitely IC and justifiable. If this is true I shouldn't have been jobbanned or banned in the first place; has the rule against breaching changed since my job ban to be more accommodating of IC/justifiable instances, or has it always been like this?

I removed them because they expired.

Where did Tetsip say that? Also, remember that he's a moderator, but does not represent nor make rule decisions for the server. He enforces rules only.

Breaching isn't against the rules because a minor breach might happen, or shots may break a window. HOWEVER, making a giant super-science grenade that blows up sections of the ship when used, WILL still get you in trouble. There's a difference between accidental breaching, and using incredebly deadly explosives ON the ship. Also, be careful who you give stuff too, if you make a giant super-science grenade for the marines, and give it to a shitbag who detonates it somewhere, expect to be held slightly responsible. Don't just give them out to ever.

My words here are being twisted. This was discussed in the case of an AP rocket being fired into aliens, a topic completely irrelevant to this issue. Note that I put a grief if exception in there. I qualify reckless super science grenades under that category. A reckless marine may have an idiotic excuse for accidentally breaching the Sulaco but as a scientist making these things you don't have an excuse for making grenades that do such things.

A good faith desperate last ditch attempt to save the mission counts as 'grief'? Stretching the definition of the word beyond its breaking point for sure. Everyone knew we were pretty much doomed and the Sulaco was lost given the alien numbers and our own; better to make that final do-or-die effort than straight up capitulate, which was ultimately successful; everything about that was perfectly IC; the only rule I violated was the one about breaching.
