Donor Gear
I know that there's been a lot since the Alpha launched and Apop is sick of hearing about this, but I really want to know what the status is on adding in the donor gear code and if there is a tentative date on it's release. Thanks.

Re: Donor Gear
To be honest, I really like not having the Donor gear in-game. It's really nice seeing people all properly geared and in-synch.
Some of the Donor gear has gotten so ridiculous that I have no idea what that person's actual position is for Marine.

Understandable of course, be nice though if Apophis potentially re-thought the donor system a bit to make it more in-line with our RP style..

Re: Donor Gear
dude, half of the point of donor gear was to pay money to get cool shit either just because it would be awesome or to troll people with, im just waiting for custom alien stuff so i can start trolling hardcore, im not alien drone, i am CHAPLAIN DRONE the PROPHET of the queen mother, no longer shall i be hivelord, i shall be OFFICE LORD! who says you need to come in on friday, complete with a white shirt and blue tie, instead of alien hunter, i shall be a commissar champion of the communist party and HERO of the people or even better, as alien queen i shall have a giant green hat with five gold stars and a giant ass cigar and you will know my name is not queen, but EL PRESIDENTE! your elected ruler, and you WILL vote for me again (or else)
goddamn that sounds funny as hell now that i think about it

Donor gear is supposed to fit with a space marine theme. All he has to do is buckle down on that in the future.Pink wrote:

Re: Donor Gear
at the end of the day its unlikely we're ever going to reach a good compromise on this one honestly, once you begin restricting what you can ask for as far as donator stuff goes it becomes ALOT less appealing to ask for and frankly, we dont want to discourage people from supporting the server, whats the point of one set of generic marine armor thats identical to other generic marine armor save for like, three pixels of difference? go big or go home, if your issue is a roleplay one then we can always come up with better IC explanations to explain why we have the things we do.

That's all i have to say hahaha.
In general though i don't really mind having/not having donor gear, due to it not making much difference either way.

Re: Donor Gear
I found additions like fallout ranger armor to be unfitting with colonial marines. With any luck, it can be restricted to military appropriate items instead, like boonies or full-on headsets, or tricked-out weapons (preferably no golden m4a1s, though, that's just dumb.)

Re: Donor Gear
Just an idea..... but couldn't a donor reward be for them to be able to pick their role, and start the game somewhere else on the Sul already kitted and ready to go? I'm not a massive fan of the bumrush at the start, and I'd be happy to donate for that capability.

Re: Donor Gear
custom weapons of any kind are strictly OUT, i asked apop about it in depth over skype and he said it would never happen, both for thematic reasons (he doesn't want to see ANY weapons that dont or couldn't exist in the aliens universe) and balance reasons (all of a sudden you could just pull m41a's and chainsaws out of your backpack as survivor or doctor), the closest i was able to talk him down to was starting out with a machete or tomahawk that did slightly more damage then a crowbar, which as you all know would be completely worthless since thats what, 10 damage? not even drones or other, unarmored humans would be so much as even annoyed by that
as for being able to start with gear, a large part of that is due to gameplay balance, the admins WANT you to have to spend time gearing up and listening to briefings because the survivors need time to get caught and do cool shit and the aliens need some time to build the hive, even if you DID start geared out then you would have to sit on your ass with nothing to do waiting for everyone ELSE to gear out.
trust me, the moment you start putting restrictions on donator stuff people are going to stop seeing the point and stop doing it since the only "custom" bits of their armor will represent like 3 pixels which no one will notice anyways and the prices have gone UP since i donated, like 20 bucks to get a bandana that you could use as a helmet? the point of custom content is that it is CUSTOM CONTENT to make you stand out from the rest of the marine forces (and lets be honest, this is only going to make you a more inviting target for predators, who is the more epic hunt, generic marine number five thousand or the vault dweller who managed to stop the masters plan to control the wastes with an army of super mutants?)

Re: Donor Gear
Yeah, but the magic of any donation scheme is the reward can be anything the admin decide. SO custom items are one thing, but there's absolutely no reason why another couldn't be to start kitted out in the break room of the Sul. I hate the bumrush at the start, I hate fighting for a vendor, and I'd happily pay $20 to start in the canteen, kitted in my role (which I could specify perhaps from what's available?) which means I could then have more time doing some RP at the sprogs running around just out of hypersleep.
There's nothing wrong with that, and I think it should at least be an option. Maybe only one or two people pick it, but that's one or two more people donating. I wont donate for a custom item - the game lags too much for me to properly enjoy it, but I'd donate to start kitted on the Sul.

They just need to be more strict on making sure it follows a theme.Pink wrote:To be honest, I really like not having the Donor gear in-game. It's really nice seeing people all properly geared and in-synch.
Some of the Donor gear has gotten so ridiculous that I have no idea what that person's actual position is for Marine.
Allowing marines to have something unique that allows them to stand out in a firefight is never a bad thing though.
I do hate seeing people running around with clown masks though.
I actually think this is a great idea. Pay a little money and get to skip the original rush. Say you were woken up a little earlier or something, but still. I don't play marine too often but I'd pay for this.Kilm wrote:Yeah, but the magic of any donation scheme is the reward can be anything the admin decide. Re: Donor Gear
Giving Donors the ability to has ranks could be nice. Honourary ranks/titles or something, possibly medals of honour and stuff like that, create a list of acceptable items to request and then donating gives you the ability to select one of those items for your character, has a separate list for items with functions for the higher donating levels and such.

Re: Donor Gear
Medals yes, ranks no. The highest rank a standard should ever be is Corporal if I'm not mistaken. It wouldn't make sense if they were ranked higher.XanderDox wrote:Giving Donors the ability to has ranks could be nice. I meant honorary ranks, ceremonial titles that are given to them by the President / Generals that actually mean nothing. Same as medals though I suppose.

Re: Donor Gear
My character is a combat medic and a CWO2. The way I make sense of it IC is that the medic is really never in line in a squad to be the leader because of having such an alternative role. Do people have a problem with that?
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....
