Bring back the Odysseus!

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Well, seeing as we're getting some problems with ripley spam, I was wondering why a nearly beneficial mech such as the Odysseus is not even available to manufacture. The thing can only take medical and engineering things, and (if equipped with a sleeper) can fit one marine in it for mobile medical attention. It can even manufacture beneficial medicine on the fly (Draining massive amounts of precious battery). Its not well armored, but it could prove to be a nice addition to medicine in the field or even in the hangar in hazardous conditions.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It might cut down on Ripley spam as more people would request this and it costs more resources to make as well. Not to mention it could help stabilize marines that would die in the field or hangar and allow them a serious chance to make it back home to get medical attention.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): As detailed above to be honest.

+1. Would love this as a doctor/CMO. While Odysseus was still in Alpha used this all the time effectively to transport badly injured soldiers.

i remember someone saying they were removed because odysseus pilots would use the sleepers to capture aliens with them, which is kind of a dick move tbh.

not only that but with the ripleys they're already aliens canon, both in their intended roles AND for combat purposes, the same cant be said of the remainder of the mech selection SS13 has to offer.

If people were stealing Aliens in the sleeper... make it so that cannot happen. There's gotta be an isAlien flag in code you can check, or something equivalent.

Yeah-yeah, instead of fixing bug whole MECH was removed. And Odysseus is much more usefull than Ripley.

You do realize there are literally thousands of things wrong "lorewise" with this mod, right? Aliens being able to evolve into runners when not being implanted & born from a dog, The entire medical system, the alien blood not being acidic in effect, aliens not being able to operate next to all machinery, USCM being able to "scan" their presence even though xenos are highly stealthy in nature and mostly in caves, not even giving off bodyheat, the entire alien plasma system, statis not halting the development of alien embryos..

The point here being is that lore (SCI FI LORE AT THAT) should not be in place to strangle any intriguing game-play ideas to the death. It should be a thing used to enhance an experience and give things backstory, not to sweep other potential elements under the rug.

I'm with cylian on that, you lore nerds are nerds. The lore is important, but having an Odysseus is such a minimal crack in the lore it's not even funny.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Lets not add more Mechs right now.. especially after the current issue with the Ripleys.

Also, why does Medical need a Mech? Doctors are already disapearing or fucking off as is. The last thing we need is a doctor getting distracted by a Mech the entire round.

It does have legitimate uses in battlefield applications where you need to get an injured guy out of a really bad spot ASAP.

Agreed, It's not exactly 'optimal' for medical to have a giant mech.. Until the goddamn aliens keep sneaking into the surgery vents that is.

Odysseus is great for rapid transportation, battle field retrieval and quickfix field heals/stabilization (as it can autogenerate and apply unlimited quantities of tricord, inaprovaline and dylovene).

FOB doctor's best friend, aside from maybe a Medibot.

Doesn't feel like it belongs in an Alien game, and they're very abusable (infinite synthesization of dangerous chemicals, shooting them into xenos with syringeguns. etc)

Unless it's glitched in some way I'm not aware of, you cannot infinitely synthesize dangerous chemicals; only inaprovaline (which requires a lot to overdose on, and the overdose deals minor toxin damage while inaprovaline metabolizes quickly), dylovene and tricord (which are curatives and can never overdose).

Okay, so I couldn't find any lore (I was this close to attempting to call in a favor from an old actor friend of mine) and it seems like there are more negatives to the suggestion than positives. I'll give it another day but my confidence is not high. Also, I'm going to be talking with some old coder and O'Conner buddies from LLA to see how we can implement synthetics into the game. (Don't any of you fucking start with thematically improbable or not within the lore. I will crucify you on that one.)

I don't understand everyone talking about lore here.

1. We don't use Alien lore nearly as much as you think you do, our two main entities for example, USCM and Wey-Yu are nothing like their Alien counterparts besides shooty shooty, and evil company.

2. Why don't we just make our own modified alien lore... We already have aliens that aren't in alien lore, so?

Well there are a couple of issues with your argument. One, the Odysseus takes an INCREDIBLE amount of power to fill up its chemical banks, and second you can't put anything harmful into them either (iirc not even sleep tox can be placed in its Chem database.

Dunno if odysseus has a more sophisticated chemical blacklist on baycode, but on /tg/code it allows plenty of chemicals that aren't outright poisons but can function that way. Also, overdosing on healing chems can happen.

I've gotta go on the side of anti-lore here. The whole concept of this server adheres to lore in a very, very loose way. Don't let lore spoil fun game mechanics.

You are right that we tend to play fast and loose with the Lore on Colonial Marines, but I think we should always try to tip the scale towards accuracy when possible. We want to be an Alien game, using the limited SS13 code, not SS13, with *some* alien content, if that makes any sense.
What I think SS13 lends itself very well to is imitate the sort of retro-futuristic theme of the Alien franchise, with weirdly dated computer tech and trashed out spacestations. Even 'High-Tech' gear like the power loader looks primitive and clunky. The Odysseus strikes me as a far too sophisticated piece of machinery that clashes with other gear the colonial marines have access to.
Not to mention that running around in a massive piece of metal, scooping up dismembered marines and prancing out of combat just feels... silly.

An ambulance rover might be cool. I've seen the paramedics use one on paradise. But if we're talking silly, that ambulance rover is goofy as fuck.
