Rasputin Mk2

Post by kurugi » 17 Aug 2015, 13:28

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
In that other thread talking about making changes to the dropship Rasputin I started to make my own idea of a ship to replace Rasputin. I think it looks sexy.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
More room for marines and crates. Comes standard with seating for 37. Power lock doors and windows. Twice the thrusters of Rasputin means it can carry twice the cargo. More windows for a scenic travel. 0 to full impulse in 4.8 seconds. This isn't your mom's average dropship.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
This thing is stronk. Aliens see you crash down to the planet in this thing and shit themselves with whatever aliens shit. This ship is so stronk that even the predator will try to kill it.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
I made sure the size of Rasputin Mk2 was the same as the landing pad for Rasputin. This ship is 9x18 and just fits so replacing Rasputin with Rasputin Mk2 and changing the ID on the shutters and button and changing permissions on the doors. I don't know what IDs you have open so they're all default 1 and all airlocks have the default permissions. I'm not sure the console I used is the correct one either.

Also, if anyone knows how to make those diagonal half walls that Rasputin has behind it's thrusters and on the front of the cockpit I think it would look good to add some to Rasputin Mk2.

If you want my opinion, I don't like how the bottom chairs are stacked and cluttered together.

Side wide doors should have shutters too.

Agree. You can't get out from lower level without unbuckling people in front of you.

Do we need two threads on this?

Ultimantly this design does not change a whole lot.

Yeah, I originally had the middle row removed. They can be taken back out again it's not like it's ever going to carry 37 marines at a time anyway.
Jeser wrote:Side wide doors should have shutters too.
They do, but you can't see them too well in the screenshot. The map file has shutters on all the windows too. They weren't in at the time I took the screenshot.

I felt this design was different enough to have it's own thread instead of piggybacking off the other idea. This way it gives me more feedback on the design rather than the idea of replacing Rasputin.

Needs rear doors; drop the middle thruster and replace with three doors; improve the chair layout.

Introducing Rasputin Mk3. What do you guys think of this design? Still the same size as Rasputin and Rasputin Mk2.

How else are you supposed to see to fly it? All of those windows have shutters. The two buttons in the cockpit control the window shutters, the two buttons near the side airlocks control the airlock shutters and the two buttons at the back of the ship control the blast doors.

I like the mk3 a lot more than the mk2, excepts that is a very low chair count for normal play time. Each squad during the more extensive rounds tends to have 6-8 members, during peak hours that can be 10-12. The Mk3 could barely carry one and part of something else with hits chair count.

Try thinking less fancy looking hull designs, something ugly but practical tends to end up being the coolest to use. It has more of the military feel to it.

Much. Much better.

But three chairs in centre look... a bit odd and not in their place.

Put a barrier down the center row in between the chairs, that'll make it look less weird.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Rasputin Mk4-4 {Biolock Edition(because barrier down the center row in between the chairs, that'll make it look less weird edition was too long)}

I think you should have a separated cargo hold room in the back area connected to the rest of the shuttle via double doors.

Short of making Mk5 with cargo in mind, I don't see where it would fit on Mk4.

One of the first principles any rocket designer must learn is that a rocket will fly only if the center of gravity is ahead of the center of pressure far enough to allow the air currents to cause a stabilizing effect.
You're jeopardizing the lives of marines for petty aesthetics.
