'Normal' Station map W. CM Xenomorphs

Post by Felkvir » 21 Aug 2015, 13:00

... And how overpowered/horribly terrifying it would be.

What are your thoughts? Do you think other servers could have accomplished how far we had come with the xeno code, especially considering many servers have waaay more coders than us? And how do you think xenos would have to be adjusted if they were as advanced as CM level of code, but be made to play in smaller scale against a science station crew? I made the famous 'Isolation' event rounds out of curiosity of this..

I know a single hunter from CM on a normal station would be extremely OP, even now. But i think it's very interesting how it would play with their abilities, and the sounds with the feel and atmosphere of it. Walking through maintenance as sec, and suddenly hearing that *roar in the darkness ... Fuck that would be so much better than those normal traitor rounds IMO

Hmmmmmm imagine a game mode where like just a regular station and 1hr30mins in they are under attack of xenomorphs (not isolation).

And CM can come to the rescue rather than the death squad or something.

But yeah with our xenomorphs they would be scared shitless.

I wouldn't call even Colonials Xenos 'advanced', they are just the least unfinished implementation so far. I will not consider them advanced, or balanced in any way, until they take limb specific combat damage.

When i say 'advanced' i say it because literally most other stations left the code and declared it buggy and not-fun even though it has massive potential.

Also yeah, a group of really well armed Colonial Marines replacing the death squad in a normal round would be a fun twist as well.

It would be fun if we did that as an event of some sort every once in a while, sorta like what happened before the marines arrived. though in this case we would arrive in the nick of time.

Don't worry, the SPIDERS only come when their owners want them. And no SPACE CARPS still exists, haven't seen them much (also the rogue COMBAT drones).

Then again on a normal station security would come in clad in facehugger proof hardsuit and riot helmets, with riotshield/laser and will wreck everything they see.
Atleast where Im' from
And there would be combat mechs to obliterate the aliens
ect ect

I actually think Hunters from /tg/code are more powerful than CM Hunters, this is by virtue of the fact that /tg/ Hunters move at the fastest in game speed possible, and that their pouncing ability has no cool down and even allows them to move even faster down hallways.

However the balancing act on /tg/ is that facehugger proof item can't break and that most station security personal can get access to Laser weapons which deal double damage to Xenos, meaning it takes only a few hits to kill a Xeno.

I haven't gotten the chance to try /tg/ xenos yet ... Well, i got infected as a miner once but the round ended like 3 minutes after that :((((

hmmmm, its difficult to say how CM xenos would fare on other servers

on the one hand the MAJORITY of the crew would be completely fucked since in other servers most crewmembers have to bust ass just to get their hands on a BASEBALL BAT let alone a knife worthy of the name, an actual WEAPON is pretty rare save for those few lasers you stole or managed to craft (unless goon is the only server you can scan items to build more of them in which case your basically fucked), while they have a greater variety of tools, mechs and so on their security forces are optimized for taking out traitors, the occaisional syndie and so on, they'd be impossibly worthless, undergeared and unprepared for even n00b xenos due to their lack of actual weapons, the other servers werent at any point ever really designed with the ability to design and create your own weapons so unless admins began to throw them a bone only a miniscule portion of the crew would be able to survive, pre alpha aliens the crew could at least mob up and wail on drones with shitty melee weapons (oxy tanks, toolboxes, etc) so a large enough horde of assistants could do some serious damage but aliens have only improved since then, currentbuild aliens would face little real opposition from the majority of the crew and even the "Grey Tide" wouldn't even be able to do enough damage to serve as cannon fodder or to use russian style tactics (force them to keep pushing in, if they try to retreat start killing the cowards, not one step back)

on the OTHER hand they dont have all the restrictions we do in terms of what mechs you can use, what chems you can use, etc because they arent being held back by an adherence to lore, they would be free to do literally anything and EVERYTHING they wanted in order to oppose the aliens, i guaran fuckin TEE you that the griefers practice making the best chems, finding all the good weapons, looking for tricks and methods to get their hands on equipment that isnt fucking garbage and if there is a way to manufacture decent firearms or energy weapons they'll have all committed the procedure to memory and be able to crank those bad boys out super fast, as much as we see alien players whine about ripleys here it will be a whole new ball park the moment they're up against rad crossbows, energy swords and e-guns in mass quantities, "oh you cant rush the hive because thats metagaming", metagaming? that only applies here in CM, in other servers you can do whatever the fuck because its YOUR ship to start with, the aliens can offer a massive fight once they get to late tier combat forms but in the early game they're going to be up against the endless waves of really fucking BORED people because half those servers are impossibly LAME, a hostile alien life form we cant be banned for wailing on? you better believe everyone is going to start swarming the shit out of them, research is trying to protect them? we'll kill them too! security is angry at us and trying to protect the researchers now? shit killing them all day is what we were doing BEFORE the aliens showed up so we've gotten really GOOD at it by now.

i'd say it'd be VERY back and forth, much like our server we wouldn't often see a really good fight and it'd mostly just be one side steamrolling the other side constantly

I don't think much really, I am very sure that when xenos appear the armory will be insta unlocked and everyone will rush there for laser and energy weapons to do shit tons of damage to xenomorphs and try to kill them and since the station has some nice face hugger proof gear
But the aliens can kill a lot of people and very quick too...so yea idk

If you want to see how Aliens work just look at how it works on /tg/ or similar. The only main difference is that you only get T1 Aliens and nothing higher, also everyone picks Hunter.

The TG version of xeno hunters is really getting my interest here ... I wonder, how strong are they really compared to CM hunters, in terms of health? Or how similar are they

Looking around the code, and my own personal experience, the Hunter has 150 HP and suffers from the usually xeno disadvantage of taking double damage from burn/fire based attacks. The /tg/ hunter has many advantages which makes it the go to alien choice, I think in my opinion this is a combination of the Hunter having access to a lot of powers and that the other classes lack utility.

* They move at the fastest in game speed possible. Humans move at a slower speed (akin to CM speeds) yet the Hunters can move as fast as the game permits for mobs.

* They have a no-cool down pouncing ability that does not require Plasma to use. So long as you don't hit a wall you can pounce around indefinitely with the only detriment being that you have to click the 'pounce' key to prepare your pounce.

* Their pouncing ability is unblockable, even by Riot Shields.

* Their melee attacks are pretty lethal, however even on /tg/ its uncommon for Hunters to kill people as they rather infect, the only time you see Hunters killing people is when they have no choice, they are attacking a cyborg, or they are facing a very powerful opponent

* They have a 100% hit chance with their tackle ability. While they may just disarm their opponent they usually stun someone.

* Also their tackle ability instantly stuns Cyborgs, meaning Cyborgs are screwed against Xenos.

I should note that in comparison however that the Sentinel and Drone are not that good in comparison to the Hunter, hence you'll see far more Hunters than any other class. The Sentinel's only ability is its ranged stun, which until the movement speed changes meant that the Sentinel was the most picked Alien class, also the Sentinel moves at the same speed as a Human. The Drone is simply useless unless your becoming a Queen.

Also finally Xenomorphs is a bit controversial to balance on /tg/. Half the people want it to be extreamly overpowerd to function effectively as a force that ends the game and the other half want to make Xenomorph's more balanced to fight the crew and not be instantly one sided.

From personal experience I would say 90% of rounds with Xeno's end with either the Xeno's winning or the crew evacuation. Or the Xeno's taking over the escape shuttle.

The only time Humans win is generally during longer/extended rounds where Combat Mechs and laser weapons (Laser Cannons) are commonplace, allowing the crew to quickly and effectively stamp out a Xeno infestation before it even has a chance to get a good foothold.

I can go on about how Xeno's work on /tg/, I consider my self to be one of the better Queen players in the (very) rare times I get to play it.

I have NEVER gotten a chance to play as a xeno there.. YET. It sounds very alien-favorable tho so i wanna try it. + the awesome weed sprites. I'd imagine going solo as hunter is gonna get you yelled at though.

Depends on the round, I once got away with doing a solo hunter thing (and it works very damn well I might add) but generally if your the first Alien your expected to go Queen ASAP.

I play on paradise and usually the warden unless my dumb security give me a headache and then I just go officer, but I am pretty well known as the warden there. Anyway I would say that on that server we have some equal battles with xenos, just do to the fact that security is usually bored and doing their own thing and when you say, bad aliens on board they line up and are ready to go full bore into the nest to push them back. Also did to our other normal guys who pick their normal jobs, you get a pretty good stand for the humans. My favorite memory has to be when I lead the security guys into a charge into the best, we were kitted up and basically held the line to stop the xenos from leaving the nest and only fell due to one engineer forgetting to seal a vent behind our line. However after a lovely sign off once my officers had been either killed or attached to the nest, I found a fuel tank in the nest, pulled a welding torch out of my backpack, did a sign off on the headset and blew myself up in the nest killing a few xenos and pretty sure I killed the queen, but wasn't sure. Was one of my favorite rounds just because I got to smile as the xenos saw a guy in there nest with a torch and fuel and blowing them to hell in a famous last stand.

This is basically what would happen every time an isolation event would happen..

Every single time after a isolation event everyone would be toxic about it in OOC or Dsay, well the vast majority were anyway and then there was the minority like myself who found the event to be fun.

Long story short staff got tired of dealing with shit every time they ran the isolation event.
