Marine law is for enlisted personnel of the Sulaco. Survivors are obviously not enlisted personnel. This has caused a security team to lock me up indefinitely and more or less take me out of the round.
I would like to know if this action is permissible, and if so I would like the rules to be changed. Removing someone from the round for very minor infractions is abusive and a good way to make people leave the server. I attempted to inquire ingame with ahelp but the staff were either busy, or ignored me.

Weren't you the guy saying you were going to kill the MP? Civilians aren't covered under marine law. On a military vessel you can be confined to your quarters until we arrive at a station from which you can depart. We don't actually have crew quarters and locking you in a cryo sleeper wouldn't really work.

Nope. Never said I was going to kill anyone. All I did was roleplay out a scene where the MPs wanted my gun, and I didn't want them to have it. Nothing I did would have been permissible for permabrig under Marine Law. So I don't think it should be permissible for it to apply to Survivors either.kurugi wrote:Weren't you the guy saying you were going to kill the MP? Civilians aren't covered under marine law. Anyone that boards the Sulaco as a guest falls under Marine law, as it is a Marine vessel. The colony too, as its a military operation.
Survivors fall under marine law just as anyone else does.
Survivors fall under marine law just as anyone else does.

Re: Clarrification of Marine Law in regards to Survivors.
the problem is that this isn't listed anywhere in the rules and even then its kind of a grey area, wanting to disarm you is a COMPLETE dick move in my opinion and i for one would sooner open FIRE on them then give up my weapon, i know in character the suvivors are guests and marines would be allowed to lock them up indefinitely but roleplay is all that survivors have left to do anymore due to the current map and changes to the way alien works compared to pre-alpha so once you take away their ability to do that by locking them up, let alone their ability to contribute or aid you, then you are basically just saying "we dont like you here or want you in our server, go play bay or hippie asshole"
on the other hand lets think about this for a moment, because you actually DO have some options.
so the MP's want to take your shitty handgun or whatever right? okay, let them have it, just go ahead and give it to them.
because you can just walk five feet to the marines armory right next to the canteen and get yourself as many new ones as you want, those things arent restricted by ID at all! even doctors can just walk right up to them and walk away with M41a's and no one gives them shit, its GREAT! even if the devs decide this is bullshit and change it so its marine only, the marines ALWAYS leave a gigantic mess in their armory so just grab one of the NUMEROUS firearms and ammunition they've undoubtedly left lying around and you are rearmed once more and even if they dont leave anything on the ground just ask the nearest marine and most of them will be HAPPY to help you out as long as you dont give them the impression you intend to use those weapons on them and their friends, in fact if you grabbed a revolver or SMG instead of a bigger gun you can put it in your backpack and the MP's will never know the difference, they get to go on treating survivors like shit and getting away with it and YOU get to be armed in case they take it too far.
in fact lets talk about THAT option abit.

notice the section marked survivors?
thats because there isn't one!
translation? as long as you dont violate one of those top 8 general rules you are free to do literally anything and EVERYTHING you want, i have begged and pleaded to try and get a section out covering the survivors (in fact my first ever post concerned this very topic) and my cries have fallen on deaf ears but this works both ways! if you decide that you dont want to be unarmed and you open fire and kill MP's they cant call it bad roleplay or griefing because you were being forced to DEFEND yourself, the admins will probably ask why you did what you did and knowing that they'll have to take it into consideration, just why would you feel a need to defend yourself against an MP? what exactly was he doing that demanded you protect yourself FROM him? the survivors are NOT allies of the marines by default, its just expected since the marines often try to rescue the survivors, for all you know these "marines" are fucking space pirates (if you were here to enslave the colonists what would be the easiest way to get them to go into your waiting chains compliantly, attacking them or pretending to be their rescuers?) and even taking that away of COURSE you arent going to let yourself be disarmed because you were down at the colony and you know what the aliens are capable of! rule #5 barely applies to you at all because the entire point of survivor is to let the marines metagame. (i would prefer this wasn't the case since in pre-alpha survivor was one of the most fun roles in the game but alas, they have always been a footnote in the grand scheme and receive scarce little attention, in current build thats all they are and we have to take it like a man)
in short, you know everything in the game!
rules are about more then just restricting what you can and cannot do and about deciding what you know in character, they are also there to PROTECT YOU from would be assholes and if you are DENIED the protection every other roleplayer in the game is entitled to that means you arent bound by the same limitations either, so if the next time an MP asks you to disarm and you bust a cap in their ass, know that the "Rules" (or lack thereof) are on your side and i know the roleplayers will certainly be, who should a marine be more likely to side with.
someone who knows EXACTLY what they are dealing with down on the planet surface, someone who is scared, hurt and alone who just wants a feeling of safety and security, someone who will be all too willing to help any way they can if the opportunity arrives?
or those assholes who constantly arrest and outright rob them just for doing their jobs, those guys who will let your friends DIE because YOU werent there to help them because you didn't do something the exact squeaky clean way they want, those guys who are practically on the side of the aliens as it is who will go cower in the brig waiting for evac while you and your comrades and fight and die for the whole ship and her crew? the ones who will be all too willing to stab you in the back so the aliens can be too busy eating you while he gets away in the pods?
i dunno about you but i'd take my chances with the survivors then a bunch of self serving cockbites with a badge.

The CL can be ordered to murder survivors by WY. They're not important.
