Oliver's re-re-re-application
Byond ID:
OliverCarswell
Colonial Marines Character:
Nina Taylor / Tyler Freeton (I believe. Not sure. NT most.)
Age:
20
Gender:
Male.
Timezone:
GMT +1
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
About 20 at least, if things work out.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Yes, I have. I have worked with Colonial Marines priorly as Head Moderator, before leaving to take a position at UT. I remained there until a month before it died.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
I played the iteration that came before this, so yes, I have.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before?
Once, when I tried to re-apply for staff, when still staff at UT.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Not anymore.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
Can't say that I have been.
If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation?
If I remember correctly, there was a "Kill" verb. To take the danger away, I'd utilize that, and later on Rejuvenate if needed. Reason I choose for this approach, is because clusterbang (If that still exists), caused permanent blindness, and in the long run, causes more work for me to rejuvenate everyone.
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
A warning and explaining how to prevent it next time, giving extra attention to that last part.
The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
I deny them by utilizing the IC means (HQ announcement, or whichever) in a way that forces the Marines to fight. Oftenly rounds with that equation aren't fun anymore, and it more becomes a hunt.
A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
Since Napalm was banned, I'd talk to the Medic, and (job)ban him if needed, or give a stern warning. The Marine faces a ban for griefing at that point, nothing much else to make out of it. However, I'd still ask for the reasoning, to figure out if it was in fact a case of grief, or a simple mistake.
What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
As long as it's not breaking the game's immersion, I don't have any issues with it. Oftenly that kind of machismo behaviour is to compensate for a lap pinky. If it breaks the game, I'd give them a mute from whatever chat they're using. Should they bring it to IC chat, they're facing a ban.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
Despite the fact I stated it before, leaving this place was probably one of the worst mistakes I've made in SS13, as UT didn't seem to be all that it was. Unfortunately, what's done is done, and I hope I can make up for it by giving this game my everything again, without standing inbetween two servers ( Haven't rejoined any other RP server. )

Re: Oliver's re-re-re-application
No, youre not even active in-game and youre not involved in the community anymore. Youre also a known problematic person who jumps server to server taking staff positions.
Nothing good can come from you being staff again.

@Pink
You've probably heard this from hearsay. I came from UT after some five to six months. Prior to CM and UT I have not had any staff positions worthy of mention.
I have been actively playing the past few weeks, and some members and staff can back that.
As for me being a problematic player, I'd like to know where you got that from. I haven't been warned or banned once and got no negative notes by my knowledge. If you feel I still qualify as a problematic player, please let me know.

Ive heard a bunch of negative hear-say about you. Youve given yourself quite the reputation for being an awful staffmember.Oliver wrote:@Pink

That aside...
I havent seen much of you in-game or even on the forums at all. You seem to pop into CM every few months, play for a week or two and apply to staff and then disapear again for a few more month.
Rinse and repeat.

Right, you're going by what used to be, and not what is. Whomever you may receive your intel from, I've always tried my hardest to do the best for the server - if that involves taking unpopular decisions, and getting your name scrubbed through the mud, so be it. But I stand firm in what I can, and am capable of doing.

Re: Oliver's re-re-re-application
Look, i'll be honest, for a ex-staff member who made a head position, these answers were very vague and not on par with other returning or new staff members we've seen recently. As was pointed out, little involvement within the community, you would need to bring that posting level up, and you do appear to have just popped up again. I do remember that you were competent at your job when you were here before, but i'm still leaning towards a -1 from these answers and forum activity.

Re: Oliver's re-re-re-application
You were headmod for 4 days before you left to take an entry-level position on a different server. Please don't advertise that you were "working as a headmod". We were not even finished going through your proposals before you left, and when you did, the proposals were all negated.
As far as coming back, I'll pass this on to SAS.

+1
We could use some good people.
While Oliver's proposals weren't accepted, I know he meant well. With everything else, he's done a good job to my knowledge.
Hopefully the community activity will pick up.
