FriedKetchup's Moderator Application
Byond ID: FriedKetchup
Colonial Marines Character: Wilhelm Eberhardt
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Timezone: +10 UTC (Aus)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 20ish. Maybe a round every day (2 hours, roughly), followed by a couple extra on the weekend (5-6 hours per day?). I'm not going to exaggerate my hours. There are school holidays coming up soon, so that'll boost my hours a bit.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? On a few GMod servers. Nothing special. I've looked into admin verbs a bit from my own private server, if that counts for anything.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? The only server I've played on was hosted by Apophis.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines or New Eden denied before? No
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? Not yet
If a player was shooting everyone in briefing at round start how would you deal with the situation?
This depends on a huge variety of factors. The key factor my first action to deal with the problem would be: a. is this a clear griefer (e.g bald, went into briefing in pajamas and shot up the place) or b. an escalated situation?
In the case of a, it's an easy decision. A seven day ban would suffice, along with a note warning any future admins who have to deal with this player about their actions.
In the case of b, you need to dig deeper. Why did he shoot? Was he provoked? Was he really shooting randomly, or was there a pattern behind it? The most important part of any case is getting both sides of the story. To me, it might have looked like he decided to go on a shooting free for all, but there might be a reason for it. When things are all done and resolved, it'll be easy enough to poke an admin and request they delete the bullet shrapnel + rejuvenate the player.
You notice that a xeno is breaching the Nostromo and is unable to seal it with resin. How would you deal with this and what punishment would you give for a first offender?
How dare they breach an unused Z-Level? I'll have them know that's not tolerated here, and I'll dish out a permaban.
In all seriousness, though, it'd depend on the location of the breach. If it was somewhere major, there'll be a prolonged discussion about what they did wrong. If it was somewhere like the maintenance shaft, it's not too much of an issue. If I recall correctly, breaching is an IC issue, so the question will ultimately come down to: were you metagaming by performing this action, and if not, what provoked your character to break the window? There'd be few excuses to explain the action, but a warning would suffice. It's not a biggy, and can easily be solved with a simple request for a drone nearby to seal it.
The marines want the nuke codes to detonate the Nostromo colony because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who. What do you do?
They outnumber the enemy at a ratio of 5:1. I'd send a reply, and deny the request, stating that satellite scans show approximately 6-7 non-human lifeforms. If the round was dragging on, and they were stuck in a wild goose chase (maybe 1-2 hours long), I might authorise it then, simply because I wouldn't want to drag out the round longer than is necessary.
A Sulaco Medic has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online. What do you do?
As mentioned in the first question, it comes down to a huge number of variables. I'd start by asking the player why they did it, while tracking down the source of the grenades. While the direct issue is the result of the detonation of this grenade, it's also worthwhile investigating if the grenade came from somebody that may have been metagaming. Last I heard, Sulaco Medics weren't one to make explosive devices, but I'd let it slide - if they can do advanced chemistry, they can make a form of napalm. Back to the issue at hand, it comes down to questioning. You're akin a detective, and you want to know why they did this or that, and if it's justified by the law (or in this case, the rules). A decision can be made from the answers they provide, whether it's a simple "fuck you", to a "I was lagging", to a "I was being a shitlord, and I apologise. I didn't expect the results to be so severe". The last two would be a warning with different lengths of discussion, the first a clear case of griefing and would be followed up by a 7 day ban and a note about their actions.
What would you do if a player started to talk about the things he did to your mom last night?
Return the banter. If I'm busy, I'd politely request he stop so I could attend to other tickets. If he continued, a mute from ahelps wouldn't be too bad.
Any additional information you'd like to add?

While I can't say anything for your IC actions as I didn't play CM in a while, your app is well written and explained so you have +1 from me.

Flaws are hard to point out when the format itself is really bad, but you seem good and you RP well so +1 from me as well.

Re: FriedKetchup's Moderator Application
Generally good answers, although I think a seven day ban is a little harsh for a first time offender. I'd go three days max depending on the damage, unless it really was that severe.

It's all situational. You can't make a clear decision based off "A player enters briefing and starts shooting other players". It's in the details. I'll certainly take what you say into account though - I knew the server was lax, but not that lax.Lostmixup wrote:Generally good answers, although I think a seven day ban is a little harsh for a first time offender. Re: FriedKetchup's Moderator Application
Well, I'm generally pretty lax and sometimes people do stupid stuff. I'd only ban for a week personally if someone did something REALLY dumb for their first offense. Like literally ruin the game beyond repair, which could also extend to a perma.FriedKetchup wrote: It's all situational. +1 and then some. This is an outstanding application, all the answers are very well described. Additionally, you are a player who I recognize and I can recall a few occasions where you had initiated some interesting RP.
