RE: Grills

So as a good number of you are probably aware it's possible to electrify grills by constructing them over exposed wire, making it so that anyone touching them gets badly electrocuted. What I'm not sure of however is if this works on aliens? I did witness one instance where a Ravager charged head-long into an electric grille and was stunned long enough to be killed. I'm not sure however if this was due to the electricity or just was the natural result were a Ravager to charge a normal grille.

I fucking -LOVE- the idea of electrifying the grills to improve their defensive potential but if it doesn't do anything to aliens it's hardly worth the many times a Marine will accidentally shock themselves and require medical attention or the time required to set them up.

Thanks

From what I saw in the round earlier today, at least one or two aliens got fried by the electrified grills. I saw a message in chat regarding it, but it was only on a runner and a drone, so maybe it only works on lower tier, or is random?

I imagine the 1 that doesn't has yet to discover the fucking joys of wiring those bastards up. This is my new favourite thing.

Electrified grills affect everyone (Personal experience died both as a marine and alien due to an electrified grill). As a marine it nearly puts you into crit. As an alien you stay down so long if no one pulls you away and a marine finds you, you are dead.

I feel like they stun aliens for longer, but I'm fine with them in the game. Marines can't complain about any turtling if they use electrified grilles, though. :P

It's too OP on aliens, it seriously is a deadly wall to them if even one Marine stands by it.

Noooot really? It's a wall that team marine has to set up and requires both power and regular floor tiles, meaning they can only put it in buildings. It does 15 burn damage with about four seconds of stun, though this does waaaaay more attrition to busy marines running back and forth and getting pushed around then aliens. Acid can destroy grilles just like anything else, of course.

Personally, I find that it fucks up team marine way more then anything else. It's usually only on one side, too, so aliens have plenty of ways to avoid the "trap" entirely if they don't want to just thug through it.

It's a wall that marines can shoot through that you have to get in close to in order to acid. Usually under fire. Those four seconds of stun are enough to kill pretty much any xeno with concentrated fire. I agree that it fucks up marines too, but used correctly it's arguable more effective than a plasteel barricade at times. Hence the flanking

Quit whining and find another way in, and it also takes YEARS to set up, and the engineer marines are quite vulnerable while doing this.

Just attack while they are setting it up, or find another tactic, instead of head smashing into a grille with runners.

Hence the flanking, jeez. Also it's not that vulnerable to set up as long as marines hold an area in front while engineers set up the grilles as a second layer. There's not really a way to attack the engineers then. This is especially true in choke points like the central ladders. Good luck finding "another tactic" if marines electrify around all three Sulaco choke points.

ACtually, I've had a few ideas about this.

1. A new Xeno Immune to electricity (but vulnerable to fire/explosions)
2. Making the Hivelord immune to electricity
3. Decreasing Grill Health
4. GREATLY increasing the amount of electricity drawn by electrified grills (it's like, pitifully low ATM)

It would be nice to see a new xeno immune to electricity but.. i can't see any of t's over uses besides if mass electro grille walls are spammed. If it is added it will probably need to be good at one other thing.

The rest of the ideas all sound good as well.

I don't really think it's an OP thing. Aliens already melt every obstacle in sight, this is just another one for them to melt. Meanwhile it's a good defense for the marines.
Lennox Clarke- Corporate Asshole or Duty-bound Officer depending on the role.
Manley Maclagan- hot shot pilot, spec, or grunt.

1 - sounds interesting for sure
2 - why not, it'll give hivelord SOMETHING more to it, as it is sometimes it's better to just stay a drone since you move faster and can still melt things
3 - grills already don't take alot of hits to destory, so not really an issue I think
4 - if shocked grills dealt variable damage that scaled up with power consumption or was controllable in some way, otherwise it just means power-dome is first target always

Yes it works on aliens and it always has....unless they just randomly took it out sometime recently which wouldn't really make any sense.
