Puppy Guarding
AKA hovering right over humans in your hive while you're an alien.
Why isn't there a rule against this? It's not fun for anyone involved, and normally in elementary school games you learn that puppy guarding is frowned upon. Why are we allowing aliens to sit right over captured humans?

Mainly because in all truths humans shouldn't be able to escape the resin with out some out side help. And because player over stock weapons and grenades. A single loose host can kill all the other infected rather quickly with a few nade or an orbital

That is something that annoyed me, but good thing I'm a smart man and carried four pistols. Tackle me down once shame on you, tackle me down three times shame on me, fail to tackle me down as I put a bullet in my head with the fourth pistol? Yippee!

That's also why when you get up 2 or 3 times from me and stuff you're either losing a leg or an arm especially if you have 4 guns on you...

It's usually a main firearm on the strap, two pistols in pockets, two in armor, one .44 in the backpack and the rest is usually ammo besides a knife in the boot and maybe grenades.

Well multiple reasons
Xenos are known for guarding hosts
Hosts shouldnt be able to get out of nests without help
Prevents suicide or mass killings by the nested guy

Re: Puppy Guarding
Aliens are allowed to "puppy guard" because there is an utter lack of compelling reasons not to.
Aliens cannot remove your headset or stored gear, and most humans can escape multiple times before they pop all cause all sorts of havoc. They also can report alien movements to the rest of the marines.
If there was such a rule, marines would quickly find themselves in 3 block thick cells deep in the nest with both legs chewed off.
Xenos are players too, not AI in a singleplayer game. You're going to need to step up your play.

Re: Puppy Guarding
My favorite is when aliens don't puppy guard you and you get to plant c4 on yourself. :-) Only got to do that twice unfortunately. But as an alien it rubs me the wrong way when I have to tackle you down 5 times before you pop or when you unbuckle yourself and others around you and have to wait half a million years to rebuckle the ones you unbuckled. That's why I have adopted the ol' checkboard nest pattern.

Re: Puppy Guarding
When I play sentinel I usually try to give marines the illusion of privacy by sitting in the next room over. Whenever someone gets free I then can rush in and spit at them or some combination of spit and tackle. It's easy to do because aliens can see mobs through walls.

Re: Puppy Guarding
Instant tackling from the resin doors is a bit annoying, and it's not that much harder to deal with a couple of marines at a time for a team of sentinels. I kinda do wish there was a coded building restriction on nests where they had to be 1 square away from a wall or door. There'd be a bit of a trade-off between putting a bunch of nests in one room and having a sentinel guard them versus having more solitary prison cell nests. A rework of the whole nesting mechanic might work too, but as it is the checkerboard nesting is the most effective way for aliens to prevent shenanigans.

I find tackling to be really annoying, personally, but from the xeno side. The high failure rate and short duration don't play well with normal lag and lag spikes.Arachnidnexus wrote:Instant tackling from the resin doors is a bit annoying, and it's not that much harder to deal with a couple of marines at a time for a team of sentinels. Also, I play drone evolved castes, and only queen has a decent tackle of the three.

Re: Puppy Guarding
So you want to punish players for being intelligent and guarding hosts? Would any normal predator not watch over their hosts? Like this is basically common fucking sense here.
Honestly, youre basically saying "hey let me just wait for my escape timer to end so i can freely get up and escape!"
If you get caught, youre not SUPPOSED to escape without marine assistance.

I mean everybody finds it annoying, doesn't mean it's not a legit way to keep the humans from killing themselves or an alien or other hosts.

Re: Puppy Guarding
There is a simple solution to this: Make it so marines can't get out of resin nests without assistance.
They would of course be some salt for a while but muhrines will get over it. And aliums will be good sports so they won't spam resin nests during assaults and stuff. Am I right guys?
It's a Win-win.

I still think having a timer displayed on a marine's status window for how long they've got till they escape would be a great way to at least make puppy guarding more tolerable.

Re: Puppy Guarding
Maybe add, 1) a timer for the marines to have so they know when they're getting out, and 2) maybe make nests get destroyed when a marine breaks out, or give them a damage system. The more damage, the less time it takes to get out. 3) Add new nest structures to a) help the hive feel more organic and b) have a helpful purpose in the hive, like say have a wall nest, or vine traps, and the like.

If nests were destroyed by marines breaking out, no caste except hivelord and queen could watch marine hosts unless you had a drone on standby to rebuild nests.Shadow wrote:Maybe add, 1) a timer for the marines to have so they know when they're getting out, and 2) maybe make nests get destroyed when a marine breaks out, or give them a damage system. Marines already can escape 2-4 times in many cases, which is a lot of work and risk for the alien team. Re-nested 3 times and 6 seconds away from the marine? Guess who just was able to shoot themself in the head?

That's the point, the hive needs to look like it, if marines destroy the nest, then there has to be someone around rebuilding the hive, and drones won't be so useless, the actual hive has to be more active and with worker drones, and not just a queen.Toroic wrote: If nests were destroyed by marines breaking out, no caste except hivelord and queen could watch marine hosts unless you had a drone on standby to rebuild nests.

Re: Puppy Guarding
First off, drones aren't close to useless, they're spreading weeds and expanding the hive. Secondly, there is a caste of xenos (sentinel, spitter, praetorian) expected to watch hosts.MrGabol100 wrote: That's the point, the hive needs to look like it, if marines destroy the nest, then there has to be someone around rebuilding the hive, and drones won't be so useless, the actual hive has to be more active and with worker drones, and not just a queen.
Have you played xeno much, or are just guessing?
