OgardTheViking - Moderator Application
Byond ID: OgardTheViking
Colonial Marines Character: Quincy Bincy
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Timezone: Eastern Time Zone
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 35 – 40 hours a week, give or take.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Yes, I’ve been an admin multiple times on Garry’s mod heavy roleplay servers in which I have 7000+ hours of roleplaying experience from the game itself.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? I might have when it was just starting up, but I didn’t really get into it much, now I’m here as a mentor.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? I’ve had applications for other things, but not to become a moderator, so no.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No, only a mentor on CM.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No, I don’t believe so.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
This often happens a lot of the time with new players and mishaps happen, I’ll jump to the player and see if he/she fires more than once, if so I’ll PM him/her and ask them if they’ve read the rules and if they are new, if so I’ll tell them to read the rules and to not fire their weapon while in briefing like that again.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Breaching the Sulaco is not against the rules, therefore breaches aren’t.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Send a response from HQ to the Sulaco stating: “By the command of High Admiral Hishuka all marines are to fan out in teams and eliminate the remaining hostiles, the need for nuclear launch codes has been denied at the current moment, over and out.”
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
On October 7th napalm was disabled due to shenanigans, making this scenario impossible, however. I would warn the researcher telling him/her not to make any more napalm grenades, for the marine I would tell him/her what they did wrong and tell them I am going to ban them for two hours and also add notes to their account.
5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I would ask the player to keeps the jokes to IC chat but if the player kept messaging me I would warn them stating that Ahelp isn’t used for jokes, if they continued I would give them a one hour ban so they could cool off, I wouldn’t take offence to any of this.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I would ask them if they have read the rules, if so then I would point out the name rule and give them a warning, if not I would link them to the rules and issue them a light warning, telling them to have it changed by next round (?) Unless I have the power to change it on the spot.
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I would state that they are playing on Colonial Marines, which as a server has rules, in which rules are to be followed by everyone including myself, if they continued I would issue a one hour ban telling them to come back with a proper name when they are ready to play properly and follow the rules.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I would jump to the doctor and pm them, telling them about the doctor rule in which no doctors may have weaponry, many doctors do not know this so I would let them off with a warning telling them to place it on the ground or back in the armory.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Squad medics are not allowed to perform surgery unless it is an emergency situation such as the marine is about to die so they can’t get to the Sulaco in time, I would point out to them this and that they should let the doctors handle surgery.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would send the Sulaco a command announcement labeled as: “Direct orders from High Admiral Tsuko, our scanners have detected a very small amount of lifeforms on the planet below, all marines are to initiate a full out attack on the enemy, over and out.”
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
End of the round grief is not allowed, I would ask the marine if they have read the rules, if he/she says yes I would give them a two hour ban, if they said no I would give them a warning and link them to the rules, while adding notes in both instances.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
I would PM the player telling him/her to knock it off and that if he/she continued that they would be punished, notes might be added though not that serious of a thing, wastes time of other players though who want to make things move along.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
In technicality from the rules this forfeits admin assistance, however this is to an extreme and I would place notes on the offending player and ban them for four hours stating that, that is not an acceptable thing to do and that he/she should read the rules and think before they do something stupid.
Any additional information you'd like to add? I’ve been a mentor for a bit on the server, was a mentor on Paradise and Hippie for a long time as well before this, plenty of experience with different things.

Pretty good answers and from what I've seen, you seem to be a pretty good guy. That being said, I *THINK* EoR grief is a 3-hour ban no matter what.
Overall, +1 from me.
I'm sorry, but I can't help but point out that the expression "Over and out" is NEVER used, in that it would mean: "Passing the communication to you, closing communication - don't expect an answer."

Honestly, Id like to see you remain mentor for a bit longer.
Youve only recently been apart of the community and I feel like youre trying to move into things way too quickly. Plus we need mentors and youve only been in the position for maybe 1-2 weeks now.

That would just add onto my already large amount of mentoring experience but thank you, if I was a moderator I could at least do more for the community.Pink wrote:Honestly, Id like to see you remain mentor for a bit longer.

-1 No offense mate, but, but it just seems to me that you send the wrong message sometimes with people when you are talking with them, for example the uniform thread we had, you said a few things that could seem like insults to other players and is why I told you to stop picking at people. You have been trying to get your name out there which is good, but it seems that you are trying quite hard to make topics and or posting to things that don't really need a post in my opinion. Also you don't have to go with a one hour ban with someone with the mom question, we do have a mute button you can hit them with until they cool down as well. I know you want to be staff here, but I would think that you need to slow it down trying to make it as a moderator a bit. I have to agree with pink on this one. Just because you have mentor experience on other servers doesn't mean it is the same for this one.

Re: OgardTheViking - Moderator Application
I have no need to prove myself to other people as those are my opinions on the uniform thread, it is the person's choice whether or not to take offense to something I said, not myself. If I wanted to rise higher up I would of started out with the moderator application instead of being a mentor for a bit of time, but thank you for your input. When people ask questions I answer them, I'm not supposed to be another player's buddy though that is a plus in itself, you can't please everyone and I'm sure you know that.Adam Hunter wrote:-1 No offense mate, but, but it just seems to me that you send the wrong message sometimes with people when you are talking with them, for example the uniform thread we had, you said a few things that could seem like insults to other players and is why I told you to stop picking at people. Re: OgardTheViking - Moderator Application
(As a user) I absolutely adore staffing teams who clearly are incapable of taking offense or may appear to be more than the average level of un-triggered but still hold up the set rules responsibly, and therefore love Ogard's personality on the server. He plays an alright character that expresses any hidden aggressive emotion (should it even be present in this individual) at a watered down state and is a fun person to have in your round if you get to witness him more than periodically. To be entirely honest, he's one of the better users to interact with at times.
Sadly though, with it being very clear that he's a wonderfully well balanced and mellow user at most perspectives, I still don't actually think he's currently at the point where I could comfortably acknowledge him as a staffing member. Do I believe that, with at the bare minimum a week or two's time, he may show himself as a truly workable full staff member? More than likely. Yet, so far, he's just been a frequently present but normal person that I can't honestly discern any information out of due to an inconsistent personality and the fact that I've rarely witnessed him being a present community speaker, and according to prior evidence, not the most formal at it. There is a small amount of needed mastery for not particularly caring but maintaining an open mind.
My personal opinion is at a neutral point, but I would definitely suggest the bump up in the near future. But right now, it's like putting out on the first date.

from what i have seen in game of ogard he is a profesional player and definitely knows what he is doing, as he is a mentor it means he has a clear understanding of the rules i know ogard is a very nice person but can be strict if needs be, overall incorporating all the info i myself have stated and everything all the others have said i am going to say +1.

Re: OgardTheViking - Moderator Application
There have been many nights where it was just Meww, Myself, WestHybrid and Ogard and Ogard regardless of being a mentor has been able to answer most A-helps. He knows the procedures and asked me multiple times to elevate a case to me where he could not resolve a solution based on his limited powers. There has been only one instance where I have had to step-in at all, and it was just a correction on an interpretation of the rules.
Ogard is very levelheaded, he understands the rules and most of the features, he is respectful to the players I have seen him respond to and he seems like a perfect fit for Moderator based on what I have witnessed so far.
+1 from me.

Re: OgardTheViking - Moderator Application
He's been a mentor for a while, and judging by other admin's relatively positive feedback of him handling cases in-game, I don't see a reason not to elevate him to trial moderator and see how he goes. After all, if he doesn't do too well, he can always be put back down to mentor.

All right, time to get off my lazy admin ass and do something.
Over all I think your answers are pretty good and you have already spent time as a mentor here. So on that note im placing my +1, sure you have some issues but we all do and in time I think you will make a great addition to the staff team.
All good here, although I would recommend making use of the sleep verb but that's really a choice of the situationOgard wrote:

From what I've seen, you've been very helpful as a Mentor. There have been rough patches here and there with your answers to ahelps, and your conduct, but it's nothing that can't be further determined by giving you a trial run. In addition, you're app is alright. I'm going to go with a +1.
Goes better with soup.
