bustered1's trial moderator/future moderator application

Post by bustered1 » 19 Oct 2015, 13:10

Byond ID: bustered1

Colonial Marines Character: Artie Simons, Astras Landvik

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Timezone: UTC-06:00

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 20-30 hours depends on if life gets in the way (work, holidays, so on so forth)

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Sadly I do not.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No I have not

Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No I have not

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No I am not

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No I have not

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.

In this situation I would observe. This question isn't asking if a player has shot anyone yet or if he intended to. I have been known to miss click and fire my weapon off before. If he continues firing his weapon and has intent to kill, I would immediately contact him and question him. If he hasn't stopped and ignores me I will freeze him and ask him again. If still no response I will give a 3 hour ban. If said player returns and continues I will extend the ban and write notes concerning this situation.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.

It isn't against the rules to breach the Sulaco.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.

I would send out a message from centcomm saying: "Our scanners have picked up 4 remaining hostile lifeforms. With respect to the USCM funds, we will not be allowing use of this expensive, highly explosive device. Thank you for your cooperation."

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.

Napalm grenades are against the rules. I would message the researcher to determine if he/she was aware of this rule. If not I would let off a warning and ask them to read the rules again and reread the researcher's role. To get the napalm grenades back, I would message the marines that were handed the grenades to give them back to the researcher. OR, to make the round interesting, I would (if allowed) send in a PMC squad to get the grenades back (of course messaging the marines not to use them, granted they still might that's why I said "if allowed") to cause some more RP and exciting times for the marines. As for throwing the grenade if unintentional:
Early round - Send a message from the USCM describing the breach and it's location saying the vessel is highly important and immediate repairs need to be done. (If no engineers I think I'm allowed to fix it? As a moderator I don't believe so, so same message.)
Late Round - If it's too late to save the Sulaco I'd let the breach be there but revive the dead (if any) that were affected and move them to a different location.
If intentional, I will state to the player that I will give them a ban for intentional griefing for 3 hours and to reread the rules and to think about how it affects others playing the game. Also, I will revive the ones affected. Notes will be put in for all of the above intentional or not for future references, in the case of someone saying it was unintentional and is showing future problems.

5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.

This doesn't affect me nearly as much as I have been around the internet long enough; however, if it persists I will tell him, without muting, to stop. If it continues I will mute him for 10 seconds and give him another warning. If continuation, 20 seconds and I will ignore him if it's only directed to me.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.

I would question him asking him if he's read our rules on naming conventions. I will ask if he wanted his name changed and I would manually change it for him (Not really sure if admins can do this but I've seen it done before on other baystation servers) if not I will allow it for the game and remind him at the end of the round to change it.

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I would politely ask him to stop arguing I'm only trying to help and tell him that there are rules stating the naming conventions and restate the rule verbatim. I would give suggestions if he's nice enough to ask.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.

As the doctor isn't allowed to carry weapons I will promptly ask him to remove the weapons and help the wounded as this is his job and give him the warning. Then I will tell him refusal to do so does and will result in a job ban.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

If the medic is in a current surgery I will allow him to finish it then I will state to him the role for the medic. He is only allowed to stabilize the patient and even if there is no doctor (which I will look up for him) to either put them in a cryostasis bag or give the patients painkillers and hope for the best.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

I would make it interesting and send out a message from the USCM: "We have scanned the planet for lifeforms and have determined only 4 lifeforms and they are all hostiles. The USS Sulaco will be deemed as a deserted ship and will be fired upon if these lifeforms are not eliminated within 30 minutes."

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.

3 hour ban, no comments.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.

No reason against it, although IC it would easily escalate, but still no reason to intervene...

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

I would look through the logs and if it was an IC reason I wouldn't have anything against it. If it was just blatant grief a 3 hour ban and warning, extended depending on past offences and if I'm feeling nice or not.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

I will most likely make notes of almost anything because anything can be used as evidence. I know that people like to ride the line when it comes to the rules and if I notice it I will make note of it. If said person is to cross the line I will give he/she a warning if it persists a really long time (like weeks) I will most definitely resort to a ban. I will say I'm very wary when it comes to giving permanent bans. I'm a very observant individual and I do care about everyones' fun, whether or not you are being interrogated by me I am still thinking about you. I will hear your story and my decisions tend to be well thought out when it comes to banning or not. Of course that only applies if it's a small ban.

Other things: not going to hide my past. I have been permanently banned from some servers (it's been so long from them that I don't really remember which ones but I do know one was a heavy roleplay server). I believe a couple of friends and I have been banned from a specific server for ingesting potassium and water pills to see how much damage it did (gibbed instantly). The other ban reasons were considered griefing along the lines of, electrifying doors, putting bolts down, making hidden walls around the station, setting bomb as a traitor at the escape shuttle, using virology to infect the ship (that one was experimental) this all happened back when my friends used to play. This is not a server I intend to be banned from and that I wish to continue playing hopefully rising up the ranks. I am a competent player (or hope so) and I know nearly all the ins and outs of this game (except atmos, advanced engineering aka bomb making, and researching -although I do know what researchers CAN make-). I am quick to learn and quick to adapt to situations.

Times- alright when I put 20-30 hours that will vary from 10-40 and those will all be put on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as I work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I will say that I am on the forums nearly all day when I am at work as my job isn't heavily busy.

Any further questions I will answer without hesitation in the thread. I hope to be considered!

At the moment. I am going to have to put this application on hold. I at the moment want to ensure that the current trialmoderators and moderators we have are working efficiently before I hire anymore.
