Your playstyle?

Post by Derpislav » 29 Nov 2015, 14:28

What it says on the tin.

No matter the role, I always die first, because when a marine gets downed I rush to help them - and tend to not notice that everyone's morale is already broken and they're fleeing in terror just because someone got hit with neurospit. And then pouncehug happens.

As standard, I try to do something out of the usual, because let's face it, being a standard means simply that all other good slots were taken.
Like getting a full fire-proof suit and a flamer and burning the hive to ash getting hugged while charging through the fire because firehelmets are not huggerproof. Or becoming the designated flare bearer.
Then I stick to medics and engineers, trying to stop any danger from reaching them with my own body, because they're crucial, and I'm a disposable grunt anyways. Yes, I hate what role standards serve currently, if you haven't noticed.

As medic I spend the entire briefing juggling pills and supplies, creating a loadout that can last the whole round. Then I ignore all orders to stay in the FoB when 5 other medics are already there and follow the squad doing the most dangerous assaults, bandaging even tiniest cuts to make sure they're always in top condition. Again, I tend to get captured while pulling hugged marines back, removing huggers or dragging infected/criticals to FoB/medevac, because I do so with little regard of my own safety.

As engineer I slam my head into the desk repeatedly when I get told to "fortify FoB" AGAIN take some time making a single entrance as secure as possible, then go use my turret offensively.

As specialist I either defend the medics/engineers with my smartgun, watch over my squad from afar with the sniper rifle, or engage EXTERMINATUS MODE AND RUSH HEAD-FIRST INTO THE HIVE EXPLODING EVERYTHING WHILE ON FIRE! then die.

Support/command roles later.

You usually trying to play field commander from SL or standard to make sure things are actually getting done planet side. Getting squads together to do hit and run attacks.

Engineer, just build up defenses that even the xenos cry that they have to destroy :p

Medic, set up with squads and dragging wounded out to at least get them on their feet to keep fighting.

Favorite job though has to be medical doctor, I actually enjoy this chaos that is med bay. Surgery has to be one of my favorite things since it is so engaging.

My preferred playstyle is as hivelord, which tends to put me in a secondary commanding role. When a xeno needs something done, I do it, and I'm the one who is coordinating with the offensive classes to see where the fighting is so I can place tunnels and weeds.

If the queen isn't coordinating the attack on the sulaco, that's something I do, and build cover/nests as we push in.

On those rounds I play queen, I give the xenos simple, clear instructions but generally give them the freedom to make their own decisions. I usually leave slashing on but forbid breaching and eating corpses. Good xenos get a lot of praise, bad xenos are called defective after their death.

Once we get to assaulting the FOB or attacked, I like to hover out of sight until I can see an oppurtunity to roar and put 4+ of them down, and then the xenos can swarm and hug, and the focus on the sulaco is usually just killing unless marines are heavily fortified or our numbers are low.

I rarely play as a crusher, but my goal is to protect other xenos, destroy mines, and keep steady pressure up on marine defenses. I also enjoy running down and killing lone marines,as crushers can easily do so even in open areas. So a rambo marine trying to escape gets hunted down, smash stunned and trampled before being decapitated.

As a squad leader I'm more pro marine than pro commander so I don't really give out orders but will always depend on the situation.

BUT if I'm defending I will constantly use my binoculars to co-ordinate a defense sometimes if I'm lucky.

I really only ever play as a medic since I first tried it out. Think I've only played other roles about ten times in total.

Pretty much gave up on the requisition line due to my overly complex loadout taking right up till the start of briefing. Unless it's a full assault on the hive, I prefer to sit in the FOB and patch up all the friendly fire injuries. I can't stand seeing even the slightest amount of toxin damage to any health bar on my HUD and have even started carrying a hypo full of dylovene just so they don't have time to say they don't need treatment. You may be feeling fine, but that chunk out of your health bar is going to make me sick. There's only a few other medics and docs I actually trust to take care of the wounded without me looming over them. When I see another medic treating a severely injured marine, I have a rather bad habit of checking the marine out myself since there's always at least one or two medics who don't even know what tricord is. I swear, if I see one more untreated tramadol overdose...

If I do get dragged into an assault, I'll run through acid and flamethrowers to grab a fallen marine if necessary. I absolutely love being able to drag a marine in hard crit from the clutches of a tier 3 in time to patch them back up. The only time I don't chase after marines getting dragged away is when I'm already carrying a patient. I honestly don't mind getting captured or killed in the middle of a battle as long as it's flashy enough. Some of the highlights of my day are when I get to laugh/flip the bird at the nearest alien before dying from my injuries or an OD from all the meds I carry in my pocket.

Never tried any command role other than the time I was a merc captain. Found out very quickly that I'm probably not suited for that kind of role. Don't think I'll ever try anything beyond an SL, and I have yet to do that. I'd prefer not to be the one responsible for all the dead chat rage.

Standard or CO.
Get men to move up and lay down suppressive fire on the move than move in myself and take out the target(s) Rinse and repeat. If alone suppress them myself with one rifle and use the one on my back to take them out.

Last round I got separated from the rest by an acid cloud while helping a marine escape a crusher and a praetorian. So of course I threw him through the cloud, stabbed myself with a kelotane autoinjector, and dove into it. He was back in combat shape before the aliens caught up.

This is what I play medic for.

Ever since tricord was set to OD at 30 my trusty dylovene and inaprovaline pill combo for situations like that has become rather dangerous (hasn't stopped me from doing it to myself though). Maybe I should start carrying some kelotane injectors on me. Guess a kelotane pill would work too, just not nearly as cool sounding... I'm glad someone else understands that medics have the most exciting job at times. Well, except for doctors. I prefer peace and quiet while treating the injured. That's why I choose to be a medic on the battlefield against perfect killing machines over a doctor in the pile of screaming/complaining bodies that is medbay.

I'm spamming Apop to make pill tricord possible again every day.

As RO, I immediately start preparing basic supply drops and drag a crate of ammo, flares and knives to the shuttle, leaving handing out attachments to the CT. If it's high-pop and the line is long, I also hand out webbings and accept requests at the second window that no one remembers existing. If engineers bring phoron, I buy some sentries, if not, I order an explosive crate every time I start having excess points.

specialist - grab a SADAR, go around bitchslapping anyone who dares to get in the squad's sight. failing that, I got two magnums at the ready.
grunt - grab a M41a, go around/loot metal depending on squad's objective, bitchslap them aliens, yell at command, get field promoted.
SL - back in the day I tried to do it the serious way, and actually succeeded, but now I kinda accepted the grimdark reality of SLing, and am simply doing what I can do for the squad. was micromanaging a lot back in the day, too.

aggressive in every role.

the average alium scum will back down if they see a marine running at them with a knife, if you push them to the hive, you've pretty much got the cat in the bag. Once you've met this hive stage, it's clear cut moves and slow advances that will keep your manpower up and alium blood on your boots.

happy hunting frendses.

My current character, Dak, is suicidally confidant and I play him as such. He's meant to be the Weirzbowski/Frost of the group. He get's a few lines at briefing and survives the initial firefight only to be dragged away. He may get lucky and not get his head torn off immediately, but he'll be dead by the end of the movie.

Engineer or specialist.

Engineer, I'm the one who sets up WW1-tier webs of concertina wire and machine gun nests that the marines inevitably shock themselves on because they're dumb as fuck. SMG for personal protection (I'd take a shotgun, but it's currently effectively unusable for me), don't get on the front line because it's a recipe for getting shot in the face. Usually end up getting dragged into a checkerboard hive because Xur hates me too much to protect me.

Specialist, B18 armor and flamer. Burn EVERYTHING. Survive significantly longer, because B18 armor can actually take a hit.

Marine dumbness is just another variable you have to keep in mind when designing defenses, put some tables there. Just regular, non-reinforced ones - as long as it keeps them from moving to that tile.

I do. They manage to shock themselves anyway.

False walls on the side so people can pass? They step sideways and shock themselves. Tables insulate them, absolutely nothing wrong? Some idiot kicked a grille two days ago and shocked himself. I literally cannot escape marine stupidity.

I'll usually be an XO, spec, or marine.

When I play marine I usually just try to stick with my team. I'm not hyper aggressive, I just focus on surviving.

As XO, I try to manage the ship as much as possible so the CO can manage the ground without any problems.

I agree with you on always being the person to help as a marine and getting downed because everybody runs and cowers. I hate that and is one of the big reasons I don't marine.

As an MP I just try to be as fair as possible and see from both sides how things happened, therefore I don't arrest always, a lot of the time i'll let the person go with just a warning. I'll reduce the time that they're actually deserved. Take a charge off, become friends with the prisoner. Try to go by the rules and laws to the T. Funny enough too i'm better at taking down marines than aliens. Aliens I just lost my touch after not playing a marine for so long.
