Why does no one play alien after their hugged / Ghost? Curiosity...

Post by Yealsey » 09 Dec 2015, 17:56

This is just to see why marines out of curiosity either Ghost immediately after being captured then hugged and why barely any full time marine doesn't play as Xeno.
Big problem.JPG
The photo shows how many larva we have... The amount of these larva were marines and this just gives me the chills. I have never seen this many marines not play aliens. And i'm just curious why.

Because aliens aren't fun. I've been over this in shoutbox discussions. You're a nameless, numbered drone who has nothing to do but go fight (or, if you're a literal drone, then build walls). No other options. No characterization. Nothing.

If I'm not gonna play marines, I can go play Rocket League until the aliens die out. On the other hand, I'm trying to play more of the support roles.

My reason is usually I dislike losing. Getting caught by an alien and not being able to get free really gets me salty. I'm guessing most marines are like this too. They either dislike aliens, or rage that they got caught and they are so mad to the point they refuse to be an alien. Only time I play alien is beginning rounds or when I join late, also more of a marine player than alien.

That i get. Losing in general gets me salty as a muhreen however 8 times out of 10 i usually lose because a marine Friendly Fired me half to death and left me to the aliens. I find the aliens easier to play and more friendly than them. Plus the case where the aliens are losing i still find it enjoyable because 5 out of 10 marines tend to be terrible at marines so i can just pick them off easily

Several reasons; gameplay styles irk me and when xenos get acceptable tactics that grinds my gears, it makes it not really easy to hop on that side and help them. You eventually go 'Fuck that side, even if I die on mine, I'm not aiding the other ones.' And as was also pointed out, xeno side is a tad boring. There is no mechanics for them to work with really outside of shit resin forever.

Being salty doesn't help either, which ties into my main point of xenos having accepted tactics that just pisses me off. Pile of facehuggers solely under the crates near the LZ and nowhere else? 'Fuck them' reaction follows. You cannot force people to play xenos, and you get those giant piles of larvas. Sometimes I will play xeno, but it is the rarity, and usually only if I want the round to bloody end finally, with no hope of my own revival.

When i'm nested I see it as a challenge to try and escape and get away, but when it comes to playing as a xeno.. I just can't get into it as I do with a marine character, probably due to how there is idol rp as a marine where as with a xeno it's more combat over rp from what I've seen atleast.

That's a pretty crap reason tbh, the only purpose of the Marines was to fight before the Alpha. Fighting is the fun part of SS13 in my opinion, if you're just in it to RP then you could just play an RPing game or something and have much more development than in here.

I could. Or I could enjoy something set in the Alien universe, rather than Generic Science Fiction Universe With Catgirls #99999.

Why have the Requisitions officer? Why have doctors? Why have command? After all, fighting's the fun part, not the roleplay, right?

The requisitions officer is for requesting more supplies, doctor for healing marines and surgery, and command for making sure the marines don't just clusterfuck over to the North on the planet map and all die.

I just don't like playing alien. Sometimes I'm in the mood but that's really it, it's a mood thing for me. Also on a side note all those larvae may have just been a person ghosting over and over whom didn't have their preferences on.

None of those roles are directly fighting. So in your words they're not the fun part?

I don't see anything wrong with arguing with an opinion, I just quoted him so people can see what I'm responding to.
He also kind of blatantly said "Aliens are not fun"

Before the Alpha there was still Rp, granted perhaps not as much as now but there still was rp to an extent especially with some shenanigans in squads and just general comradeship when playing a marine. Here on CM I like to think we have a good mix of Rp and combat to quell the thirst of both types of players.

I know that, but my point was that there was basically the same amount of RP that you could also do as an alien. So there wouldn't be any point of playing marine because it "has no RP and nothing to do but fight."

Subjectivity is something that's affected by your genes or how your body is made. Like how people like different foods, it's their body, not them actually having a solid opinion on it.

That's not the definition..... just type it in on google or dictionary.com or marriam webster or any other dictionary source. Also there's no such thing as a "solid opinion". That's just narcissism creeping through.

Primarily i don't like playing Marines. I'll play MP or RO over playing a marine any day. I always find myself getting shot up to shit by everyone chasing after that runner or i find myself getting my shit pushed in by shitty squad leads. Once in awhile i like to play them just for the aspect of it. Alien RP really is just "Hunt kill and infect" But surprisingly i don't play alien to have Hardcore RP. i play alien to have fun and RP maybe mediumly as a hivelord or a carrier. I find myself working together with the aliens more often than i ever did with marines. Making hunting parties and mass infecting stupid marines running around outside the FoB or testing out new builds with the hivelord. As for tactics i've never seen the hugger stack under a crate. I play alien 9/10 times and have fun 9/10 times. What i love is when we're not expecting anything and haven't shown ourselves to the marines yet and i cross a dropped M4 mag and BOOM im in crit from a proxy mine. Talk about irky tactics right? I get it that some people don't like playing aliens either. but it's a hell of a lot more fun than getting Friendly Fired till your head blows off by your SL.

One reason some people don't play as xeno is because, during high-pop, it's basically joining the losing team. Why join the team that's outnumbered 6 to 1?

I don't play as marine anymore because they don't need players. I tend to just go as MP now.

Mostly? The 10 minute timer. Within that 10 minutes, I either get cloned or get bored enough to play something else.
