Marine Lights
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Change the way marine lights illuminate from the 360 lighting to a triangular beam going away form their character.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Honestly I think this will benefit the marines more than the aliens. It will encourage teaming up (when marines stay together they usually win), and having formations, like in the movies so you can get that 360 lighting, and will make marines prioritize getting lights up/ using flares and other lighting. It will also dis-encourage rambo marines, since a xeno can sneak up from behind, which would make for some great tension when alone, constantly turning and checking all the angles.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): I would make the change for both flashlights and the mounted lights on marine suits, however leave the flood-lights and flares as are (and other mass lighting sources, room lighting/desk lamps)
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Re: Marine Lights
So very fucking +1. This is essentially cones of vision without having to code cones of vision.

+1, and would definitely encourage marines to stay in groups to cover each other's asses, if there wasn't reason enough already.
Why even post if you have no particular feelings opposing or for a suggestion, asides from raising your post count?Sargeantmuffinman wrote:Neutral

Re: Marine Lights
Is this even possible in Byond? Every light source we have illuminates in a circle.

Re: Marine Lights
Generally this would be great as it would allow xenos to you know be stealthy, however i have no idea if it's actually possible without causing a fair bit of lag.

Re: Marine Lights
If Lifeweb can force a cone of vision on players, then surely a cone of light can be done. Whether or not it'd be simple to implement isn't something I know, though.LiquidNightfury wrote:Is this even possible in Byond? Every light source we have illuminates in a circle.

Re: Marine Lights
I think BYOND SPESS MAGIC!!11! wouldn't allow it.
But +1 if it allows it.
EDIT:
there's a game on BYOND called "murder mansion" which uses cone vision, i think it's possible

Is there no way to eliminate specific tiles of illumination from the radius that the armor currently illuminates?

Re: Marine Lights
+1 for the spooks, but I'm pretty sure byond would make this hell to achieve.

Re: Marine Lights
Solid +1. I'd +1 it even more if we got the 90 degree cone of light along with a Lifeweb-style 270 degree cone of vision. Peripheral vision into the dark, other marines have to light that up.

Re: Marine Lights
Changes to vision would require an entire coding overhaul for vision. It would be very cool but I wouldn't hold my breath to get it.

It'd be cool, I'd add a +1 to it, but if what I'm hearing is accurate it might be very, very difficult.

Re: Marine Lights
We already have code for hallucinations. If we can make stuff appear for only one player, then the code for cones of vision is already there.
Conical light could be done by simply placing two light sources away from the player, one smaller and closer.

Re: Marine Lights
I wanna say that a server I played on a long time ago had a working cone of vision thing for when you wore hardsuits, but I never saw it in action. I only heard of it. I'm neutral on this. It would be cool if we have it, but I don't really care either way. If the code/lag/complexity outweighs the feature, then I'd rather not have it.

Re: Marine Lights
This is a bit impossible to do with the current Lighting system we are using so Denied.
