M94 Marking Flares

Post by monkeysfist101 » 17 Dec 2015, 01:42

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
This would add the marking flares from the movie used by Ripley to mark the turns she took so that he could find her way out of the atmospheric processing plant. These wouldn't be for light sources, but for navigation.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
In addition to bringing the server closer to the movie, these could be used to guide other marines on maps like the prison where it's easy to lose one's way.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
5 flares per pouch.
15 minute flare life.
1 tile illumination.
Can't be moved until it burns out without causing slight burn damage.
Standard white flares would be available at the ColMar Vendor.
Squad colored flares would be available in the squad leader and engineer rooms.

Might want to increase the lifetime. Why would you want your source of direction, pointing to long-term things like FOB's and no man's land, to only last five minutes?

+1 some direction would be nice for these oh-so-dark maps.

People who have them memorized have no trouble with it, but for the rest of the playerbase, these would help immensely

I dont see the point of this, ... its kind of useless when you can use flares for the same thing. Or pick up a crayon....

Another idea, what if the color of the flare was dependent of your squad? And if you didn't have one the flare would just be white?

Practically infinite flare that provides less light than the normal flare, but is for navigational purposes? I like it! +1

They could be like a specific color too. Would tell marines where other marines have been without having to use coms.

I would love these, they would help squads navigate and figure out where Charlie went before they got wiped out.

So, what's the difference between using these and using the current flares?

The current flares can be dragged away and dissolved. In addition to being stationary, these can be carried in a small flare pouch in packs of five. The drawback, however is that they produce almost no light.

Main appeal is how numerous they would be. Normal flares take up a lot of space, these would in some sort of box or pouch that you can carry easily. In return they're not really useful for lighting dark areas but more for an easy-to-see breadcrumb trail.

These stay for considerably longer, are a different color for easy identification, and do not illuminate nearly as much as a normal flare. They could mark an area as "clear" or "checked" or they could be used as a cookie crumb trail for squad members to find each other. There could be multiple colors, one for each squad, as well.
