Remove Electric Grilles

Post by ParadoxSpace » 18 Dec 2015, 19:33

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Yeah. Get rid of these damn things. They benefit nobody.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Will nerf bullshit hangar defenses.
Will cut down on how much burn meds I have to (Heh) burn through as a medic.
Will cut down on ridiculousness.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Remove them.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

I wouldn't suggest removing them completely, they're still useful to the marines like.. resin walls or something to the aliens. I would either put a nerf down on the egrilles, such as a timer as Sis said or removing them from being built on the Sulaco to cut down on some of the outrageous defenses.

I honestly think grilles harm marines far more than xenos anyway. The amount of shocks I see are usually 95% marines and 5% aliens. Besides, aliens have meta knowledge of electric grilles, and you can hardly blame them for not wanting to walk straight into an instant death. All I ever see is a pile of crispy marines near defenses that rarely stop more than a couple aliens throughout the entire round.

How quick you are to assume stuff.
I didn't just lose a round.
I made this post after observing many rounds where electric grilles tended to be bullshit. I haven't actually played a round today.
Relax.

Yeah, I'd like to see an alternative to E-grilles as they're used to provide a dangerous, difficult to remove obstacle that marines can shoot through.
Perhaps barbed wire that anyone can walk over, but will take damage, are slowed, and have a chance of getting caught in. Xenos could tear the wire apart, but would take time and deal damage.

Barbed wired would be cool (maybe one day, foxholes and trenches)

As now, eletrogrilles annoy more the marines by acidentaly touching it than harming the alien, the only place that is effective is on the hangar fortress

I'd be down for razor wire. Foxholes and trenches don't make sense because the enemy isn't firing back. In melee combat, you want to maintain the high ground, not lower yourself into a hole.

I am a dominantly marine player and even I want these things gone... They're fairly bullshit. Grilles are good enough on their own. You can shoot through them, is that NOT ENOUGH? You can not be clawed through grilles. Spit, sure, but they have to claw through first.

Adding burn damage to simply touching them is a dick move, always has been. I for one would love to see this go, maybe cut down on marines turteling

-1, a good engineer makes it so the marines can't touch the electric grilles.

-1 I see no issue with electric grills, they're a tool that marines get to use. Some marines being dumb and either walking into them or pushing other marines into them is not enough reason to ban them.

-1. There's no problem with electric grilles. There's a problem with marines being dumb as all hell around them.

I'd support the addition of razor wire in conjunction with egrilles, but not with egrilles' removal.

The problem hardly isn't marines running into them, although there is an issue with that. Severely.
The problem is bullshit hangar/FOB defenses coupled with the fact that for whatever reason you can shoot through them.

Honestly the issue here is plasteel, not e-grates. Grates can easily be destroyed by acid. Plasteel cannot.

A nerf would help
Maybe it damages the grille each time anything walks into it?
Or maybe replace the way its made, making it more resource heavy or limited? (For Example, maybe they use batteries instead of wires, for each single grille?,or something simmilar to Rainbow Six Siege´s Bandit, and his ability)

Hmmm... I've seen both ends. And Understand. (I have been Subject to extreme Marine Meta before, So many... Fucking... AI Cores in a Hanger) But I'd say Grilles need a Nerf (Because it funny/bad when marines are retreating and they ram into them)

-1, grills have never really been the problem. Just stupid marines. Being able to shoot through them probably doesn't help, but grills are far from impenetrable. Nerf plasteel barricades or make grills damageable by spit, but removing a staple Marine defense would be like removing resin walls or sticky resin from the Xeno catalog of defense objects.

I don't really mind the grills, I just make sure I don't run into them or just find some insulated gloves so that I can just walk next them without a worry. but I would like an
alternative to E-grills like barbed wire or something.

Something like giving a bullet a very small chance to damage/destroy the grill if it passes through the tile might be enough of a nerf to them to balance them.

Grilles can be destroyed by spit actually. The acid glob takes it down in 2 or 3 hits. I'm pretty sure it's 2 though

Denied. I'll not remove grills anytime soon. I may reduce their health, but I won't remove them.
