Report against Caryl

Post by Hycinth » 19 Dec 2015, 22:20

Your Byond Key: Hycinth

Your character name: Johnny Harrison

Their Byond key: Caryl

Approximate time and date of the incident (Central Us Time for best results): 2100 12/19/15

Which Admin Protocols (http://goo.gl/fBUQGG) were broken: 0, 3

Description of the incident: During the round, Caryl not only randomly detonated bombs (admin logs will show) within the FOB, on the basis of "targeting protocols failing something something", they also force-called a Xeno ERT and armed the nuclear fission device on the Sulaco with a five minute timer. This was all done on the basis of "well, people wanted me to speed up the round", despite the round moving fairly well, marines making several decent pushes into the hives, as well as defending the FOB suitably. The round had significant back and forth, and had not stalled in the slightest.

The end result was a Xeno minor victory from a round that could have easily gone either way, as the nuke ended up detonating.

I understand that Caryl "spices things up" with their events, but this was a complete breach of rules zero and three. It forced absolutely unnecessary hardship upon the marines, and Caryl's actions directly run counter to rule 0.

Evidence (screenshots, logs, etc):http://pastebin.com/H3P7qBk6 (partial logs, didn't begin logging until late in the round)

How you would punish the accused: Investigation of the incident, with retrial/demotion/probation/something if found guilty of the dreaded adminbus

-1 or something.

Marines couldnt find last 2 Xenos on Sulaco. Caryl used the Nuke to end the round with the Ghost bitching in Dchat. Caryl was awesome

Thanks butterrobber202, also I didn't break Code of Conduct 1 which was calling people by names. Never called anyone names even if you guys were mad at me. I'll take the brunt of my actions and as my sole responsibility and not anyone elses.

Never mentioned rule 1, just 0 and 3.

Oh, my bad. Read that as Rule 0 to three.

I got really late into the round, and had no headset(!!) for about 30 minutes. But uh, 100 combinations to try and disarm a nuke in five minutes, with BYOND time lag, with a bunch of marines panicking because they recently got called back to the Sulaco to deal with xeno ert, and so on, made for a really abrupt ending. One number unknown? That would have been totally acceptable. 100 combinations? C'mon, that's just unreasonable.

Not Caryl's fault. Round was being prolonged by the hiding Aliens and he simply created an interesting scenario for us. Unfortunately, we couldn't actually defuse the bomb, so we attempted to take it to the dropship.
Unfortunately, multiple people prevented us from doing that. Random marines griefing in the room, one trying to c4 it and nearly killing the CO, the bomb absolutely REFUSING to be pulled, etc. So, in the end, it blew up before anybody could escape successfully.

If we had evacuated sooner, we would've been fine, but we were under the impression that we could defuse the bomb in time since we had a solid 5 minutes.

tl;dr - Command had a planned evacuation of the bomb. Absolute idiots keeping us from dealing with bomb, people given 5 minutes before it exploded to run like hell, and the bomb being weird to work with.

Source: Tony Larson (BO of that round, was with the CO in the room.)

P.S: Thanks for helping me out when that idiot randomly cremated me then ran away, Caryl. You're more of a bomb than that nuke was man.

Edit: Just to reference the admin rules, the main idea that they invoke is that admins must keep the RP element going, and that it's literally the most important aspect of the game. Nothing was happening, and at most we would've been searching for the last few without any information as to their whereabouts. He kept the RP going, but people panicking and doing random stuff killed it.

The bomb also killed all marines on the planet. Evaccing would have done nothing. The nuke going off 100% ends the round.

Well let me rephrase this.

Taking the RP aspect out of the equation, and putting more emphasis on how the server felt, and other stuff.

NOBODY complained that the bomb was going off due to failure with the failsafe, as indicated by M.O.T.H.E.R. even before the 5 minutes came into play. I was literally watching the panic go through and everyone was rping it out was should be.
EVERYONE knew it was happening. Watched even ground troops react, and command let them know what the issue was. Command being me, and letting them know be "Hold on we're about to blow up"
The only problem people had with it was when it went off. "Admin report" etc. That makes no sense. That doesn't sound like an admin's fault that it killed everyone, it sounds like he intended for it to turn out different, that sounds like a game fault. I admit, if the admin(s) (Because I think Ver was involved with making the code? Not sure.) intended for us to defuse the bomb, they should have used a much simpler code, and a much easier way to find out what it was, but that was a player fault that we weren't actually able to do anything with the bomb since all was hell in that room.
I understand it's used in a high-risk emergency in case Xenos take over, well, everything, but for it to just blow up the entire game is ridiculous. We're talking a space station well above the planet's atmosphere here. The radius could surely be dealt with, but I'm not familiar with the kind of access coders have with these things.

But, if you want to blame an admin for trying to make the few boring moments of the end of the round a little interesting, then keep in mind that the way they're going to handle this doesn't revolve around you being mad that it happened.

And even then, everyone else got over it. New game, new life. You're the only one, as of this moment being written, that came to say something about it.

So, to recap, too little Xenos to continue playing for long, intriguing final moments, then new game that is actually still going on as I'm writing this.

I'm finished discussing it though. I never intended for an argument, I just gave my two cents, and now we'll just see what happens.

It's not even necessarily the nuke that resulted in me making the report. It was the nuke, on top of the admin-forced Xeno ERT, on top of the random bombardment of the FOB with ~8 Orbital shells. The admin interference in the round was done to an absurd degree.

Anyone one of those things would have been fine. We dealt with the bombardment of the FOB. We dealt with the Xeno ERT, people evidently attempted to deal with the bomb, and failed.

He is a administrator. While he should not have even touched a nuke period to be honest HOWEVER administrators are allowed to alter the game to how they see fit if its extended or drawn out than they have every right to call a shuttle. a ERT. Whatever they need to do to quicken things up so the 40+ dead at that point can play again.

The round was at 2:40, and there were constant combat patrols going in and out of the FOB, as well as aliens assaulting the FOB consistently. When the nuke was armed, there were all of four-ish(I've heard reports of two) aliens upon the Sulaco.

A bioscan would have sufficed to end the round without messing with the server win-rates, and likely in a quicker fashion. Caryl threw increasingly annoying things at the marines to "try and speed up the round", and when we worked around them/removed the threats, just escalated it rather than going "Alright, well, maybe the marines deserve this one then."

If we'd defused the nuke, what was next? Insta-kill radstorm? Who knows.

In fact, the only reason the round was "dragging on" in the first place was due to the Xeno ERT (force)called by Caryl just hiding on the ship rather than trying to kill marines.

As a ghost for most of that round. 1 Queen and a Boiler in EVA on the sulaco and maybe 3 aliens planet side with tons of ssd larvae. With 40+ ghost bitching in dchat. And with Caryl's power as a admin to manipulate the round for server benefit. Which she did. You don't have much of a argument.

This was part of the reason Caryl was removed from staff. He's been a bit slowly becoming a shit a staff member for awhile, and combined with other actions recently taken in staff-chat, we've washed our hands of him.
