Full name: Tanya Roselyn Stroud
Age: 32
Birth date: 17th of October
Gender: Female
Position: Bridge Officer, Squad Specialist, Engineer or Marine.
Notable traits: Cybernetic limb attached at the shoulder joint, lacking the usual aesthetic covering due to burn tissue across the shoulderblade. A small nick through her right eyebrow and the right edge of her lip.
Persona: Solid soldier with a stoic and rather simplistic attitude, but zero tolerance for incompetence. Her past has left her with a rigid judgemental compass, and shows vehement resistance to those whose slip-ups affect the task at hand. To this end, she will follow any task with reasonable guidance, but shows true respect and deference to the select few that have proven histories of strong leadership, while raising hell for those who have proven failures.
History: Born to a military father and an ex-military father with two brothers already on the same path, Tanya found little motivation leading her anywhere but the ranks of the USCM. A singleminded focus found her excelling in multiple aspects of marine training, especially in her handling of explosive ordnance and precision weaponry, though she struggled with civilian relations and psychological examination, very nearly failing to enter active duty as a result. Tanya's first deployment on a spacefaring vessel was at the age of 22, spending four years operating as a member of boarding parties and security operations in protection of the solar system.
It was in one such situation that Tanya lost her right arm. As part of a response team investigating a listing freighter with no life signs aboard, it was discovered that the ship’s atmospherics had failed, over-oxygenating the environment to such a degree that the first flare popped started an inferno. While most of her body recovered from the burns, her arm was completely consumed, leaving no choice but amputation. While wounded, she refused the option of leaving the USCM, quickly recovering and returning to service – this time, assigned to the larger body of marines operating abroad.
From there, Tanya moved from deployment to deployment, eventually settling into a role on the USS Sulaco as an orbital drop marine, proficient in specialist equipment and combat techniques, deploying to combat zones as regularly as her health and assignments would allow. As time went on, she earned as much flak as she dealt out, raising hell for officers who fell below the standard of the corps, while maintaining a high degree of combat success – if a little suicidal in the reports of her operations. Somehow, these traits culminated in catching the eye of a particular squad – and soon Tanya found herself among the ranks of the Omega Team, her unusual behaviour put to work at the edge of a sharper spear.
Basic appearance: Auburn hair, dyed, and tied back in a ponytail. Caucasian skin, 6’1”. Muscular physique – not a bodybuilder, but leaned down from persistent training. Her face seems lacking in emotion at times, tensed and unresponsive.
Likes: Training, combat, the chance to better or prove herself. She has a soft spot for mechanical problems and the inner workings of machines, as well as puzzles with physical elements to them. Also enjoys the deconstruction of firearms and their function, which extends into a strange appreciation for the function of large-scale cannonry.
Dislikes: Silence and isolation, but contrastingly, also shies away from social situations outside of deployment. She shows a distinct aversion to fire (contrary of flamethrower use in combat), seems stressed in small-size spacecraft, and dislikes cryogenic storage and cloning, finding the skips in traceable time intensely stressful.
Strengths: Direct and reliable in combat situations, as well as being capable in both the physical and mental fields of tactical operation. Gives her all to the task at hand without much thought to the personal cost. Has a high tolerance for pain due to past treatments, leaving her capable of fighting as long as she’s able to stand.
Weaknesses: Has a rather desolate life outside of the military. Shows no indication of the capability, or at least urge, to socialise without some kind of involvement in her role. On deployment this rarely manifests, as she’s perfectly willing and able to interact with fellow marines, however in the free time she is mandated for reasons of her mental health, Tanya shirks social responsibilities, further feeding a borderline neurotic military focus with physical training. This also feeds into an unhealthy suicidal trait, her focus on the larger goal sometimes overriding personal preservation.
While none of these traits are serious enough to be considered mental illness, as they are determined to be personal lifestyle choices, they do give Tanya something of an ineptitude when interacting with non-military, coming off as cold or mechanical.
