Gunso - Moderator Application
Byond ID: Gunso
Colonial Marines Character: Wyatt Hoopengarner
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Timezone: UTC-8
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? 50 Hours
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? No
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? No
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? Yes
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
I would quickly ahelp him to stop and check if he harmed any marines. If he was just fucking around and hadn't harmed any marines I would issue him a warning and note and tell him to play his role and RP instead of messing with the crew. If the player had shot marines I would try to quickly ascertain if it was a valid escalation of force or not, and if not then ban him for griefing other marines and add it to his notes.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
As a mod quickly get an engineer or someone that can seal it to fix the breach and re-pressurize the area. Also then investigate why the breach occured and if it was intentional issue a ban and if accidental issue a warning as well as note to the player involved because currently breaching is still not allowed at all.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Don't give them the nuke codes because only headmins can do that. I would issue a message through MOTHER stating that only 4 lifesigns are detected and that central command would expect the marines to finish their job as true soldiers and not scared useless civilians.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
Napalm is expressly banned in the rules as well as the researcher being partly responsible if marines misuse grenades made by them, so they would recieve a ban and note for manufacturing disallowed grenades that could only be used for rule breaking. The marine would also recieve a ban and note for the blatant grief commited in Logistics for the harm and damage to the ship and crew. I would also issue a message via MOTHER that any grenades from the researcher are not to be used because they are napalm, to prevent any further incident from marines that might not realize that the grenades given to them are banned NAPALM grenades. Any marines not complying with that as well would receive warning and notes.
5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
Point out to him that not being a dick is part of the rules as well as being respectful to staff, if they continue I would then mute them.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I would ahelp them and inform them that they need to change their name and direct them to our rule about what is an appropriate name for the server. (having full names, the nickname rulings, as well as not using famous names for real life or lore names)
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I would point out that ignorance of the rules is not an excuse and just because they slipped through the cracks before changes nothing.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Quickly ahelp the doctor to drop the weapon and get to surgery within a minute if he doesn't want it to escalate to a warning and depending on his notes a jobban and a note. I would also link him to the doctor specific rules about how his conduct is supposed to be. (treating patients and not being a combat soldier and in the current rules - not having a weapon at all)
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
I would explain to him that there are not exceptions to the rules and he must cease surgery at once and settle with doing his best to stabilize patients before sending them to a doctor that can do surgery on them. If he doesn't comply I would issue a jobban and note.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would issue a message through MOTHER that only 4 alien life signs are detected and that the marines need to finish their mission, that the USCM has far more courage than this when they have overwhelming numbers against a far weaker enemy. I would also send a message to the Queen that stalling does not improve the round for anyone.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Immediate 3 hour ban for EORG. - no room for discussion, no reason to wait, just snap off a quick PM to them saying 'no EORG'
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
I would ahelp and remind the marine of the 'dont be a dick' rule and to cut it out. If they didn't I would put a note and warn them for the last time, before banning if they repeated it again because at that point it would be disrespecting and not listening to staff.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I would ask him and the other marine how the fight started and check if everything was properly escalated IC before shooting. Most likely it wouldn't be, and in the case of that, it would count as griefing and net a ban and note for going so far to kill another marine without good reason. Also if true that the other marine was fighting back he wouldn't be revived and players would have to heal him IC if they wanted.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
Quite often during lowpop rounds I am online with either only Ordukai or no admin/mods at all. It would be good to have more people covering these hours. I've also tried to do well in keeping good logs and screenshots for evidence in player reports that I make when no admins are online to make things easier. I'm fairly well versed in medicine/engineering/etc on the server as well so I'm able to answer question ahelps people would have as well. I didn't put any specific ban times in this application that I would issue on people because it's so dependent on notes, but I'm a strong believer in the staff procedures and protocol that encourage staff to preserve the fun for the server as well as being fair and investigate each occurrence. I will even go out of my way to make sure any note I issue that the player is aware of when I issue it in order to make sure they can change any possible future behaviour. I'm open to any questions or comments anyone might have for this application.

Your forum Id and your ckey are completely different. Going to have to -1 this.
The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

Ha good joke, but unless I make a new forum account I am unable to change my forum ID. I already checked under the User Control Panel under profile and account settings and I literally can't change it.coolsurf6 wrote:Your forum Id and your ckey are completely different. Going to have to -1 this.

As far as I know you can contact a forum administrator to get it changed but sadly it will be denied no matter what.

You have an extensive list of bad notes to the point that you are known as a troublesome player.
To be fair, you have been better this last month. At this moment though, I dont think youre ready.

Re: Gunso - Moderator Application
So, Pros and Cons: You're a very knowledgeable person regarding both the server and the game itself. You're answers were okay. You are able to fill a timeslot typically only filled by Ord and a couple others. On the other hand: You're sometimes very critical of players and staff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's off-putting at times. Your notes are pretty extensive.
I'd almost recommend you try asking to be a Mentor, given your technical expertise in the game. If you want to continue with this, though..
I'm going to remain neutral, until I see more of you in-game. Not that I haven't seen a lot of you already, I just haven't been particularly focused on your actions on the server. Best of luck.

Wow... Just wow... I can't find anything wrong with these answers... this is the best god damn staff application I have ever seen... eh.. ahem. Regardless of how good your application is as noted by the other staff members you have a large history of breaking rules. Although most if not all major ones are older then two months and you only have two minor recent notes I will be ignoring them as they are old and shouldn't effect this application.
Your responses are great and you have good knowledge on everything be it game mechanics or rules which makes for a great moderator. Even with your notes I am more then willing to give this application a +1 since I see alot of potential and no recent issues.

Sorry buddy. I do not care how good your app is here... The amount of notes that you have goes against what you really say here... I am going to have to go with a -1

As there is no way to remove notes what would be the appropriate period of time to wait before applying for mod position? I think it can be seen in my notes that as time has gone on I have gotten less and less notes over longer and longer play periods which I believe demonstrates growth as a player and respect for the community. Since I've been on the server awhile and wasn't as community involved before of course my notes would be fairly long in the amount. Judging based purely on the -amount- of notes seems a bit too simplistic and actually biased against community members the longer they've been here.
So in short, what could I do to convince you that I would be good for mod position?

Re: Gunso - Moderator Application
I'd recommend continuing to play and improve your record. Keep putting distance between those notes you had back then and what you're doing now. That'll probably be a pivotal point down the line where you can say you've put those past issues behind you and can be strongly considered for a moderator position.

Specifically, time. It's been not even 60 days since the majority of the notes.

Hmm if I recall correctly I have about 16 notes total?apophis775 wrote:Specifically, time. It's been not even 60 days since the majority of the notes.
With 12 of them on/before October 3 and 4 of them in the time frame after that? And the 3rd of October was almost 90 days ago, 88 to be precise not counting the day of the note then?
I don't think 25% of my notes in the last 60 days is a majority? Unless I miscounted my notes or the time frame. Feel free to correct my math or calculations if they are incorrect, but I strongly feel I didn't get 12 additional notes or more over the last 60 days at all, considering 60 days ago was the start of November.

Allow me to just state something... Normally you are perma banned when you have reached the double digits. Normally you are perma banned once you hit around 8 so consider yourself lucky to be around honestly.
