Asteroid Mining

Post by The Ultimate Chimera » 01 Jan 2016, 16:04

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
This will allow xenos to expand their hive by digging through the asteroid rock. They can't do much with the limited hive space they already have but if they could dig out a few more areas, it would help them a bit more. But make a delay on doing it as it can make it harder for marines to search for them.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This will allow xenos to expand their hive on the planet map by being allowed to dig through the asteroid rock.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Maybe make it so there is a huge delay on mining the rock and make it so some castes can not, so maybe only drones and such can mine the asteroid.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
This are from /tg/ so I will link the PR. https://github.com/tgstation/-tg-station/pull/10870

Re: Vent Crawl/Asteroid Mining overhaul

No to mining due to them not even having sharp enough claws to even dig and this would EXTREMELY delay the round if you have an xeno digging a massive maze where the marines think there is an xeno in there but there isn't so a -1 to that.

For the vent crawling. This is being planned.

Also put all of your ideas in seperate threads.

EDIT:

We can't just take other peoples codes as it would be disrespectful as well as it needing to be compatible with our code.

True, but it is a simple little addition, I could ask for permission if need be. I have removed the vent-crawling suggestion as it was already being planned.

A simple additon with a double edged sword.

Sure we can have a hive inside of the rocks of the caves but we could also have the xeno maze.

So I'm leaning onto the -1 for now.

I was really hoping that this suggestion was for letting MTs do some relaxing asteroid mining, haha.

But on topic I think the current system is working fine and that the ability for a competent alien to create more chokepoints could really extend the planet rounds. Leaning towards a -1 right now.

Lad, SS13 is open source. It isn't rude to port PRs. That aside, plus one.

Mazes. Mazes everywhere. -1 also it doesn't matter if it is open source or not pulling code from another server is still disrespectful.

As i coincidentally said in an essay I was force to write recently, just because you can does not mean you should, anyhow this argument is neither here nor there in relevance to this thread.

-1

It's already annoying enough when you have resin mazes...it becomes annoying finding your way as a xenos especially when you can't get to the fight on time.

Sure, if we allow aliens to dig, then we could just dig through to the battlefield but at the same time you can be lost and mess up the system.

Also, this could really delay the round since humans can't see aliens. If you make an entire maze, even with all these marines searching for you, you could just keep digging and digging while nothing will happen.

I'd approve of this for a T3 evolution of the Hivelord as the ultimate Hive builder, but otherwise, no.

Crusher. Charge dat rock. DO IT!

Also you confused me with asteroids, I thought it was my suggestion Q_Q
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

-1, from a gameplay perspective, this has the potential to extend rounds to almost ridiculous lengths barring admin intervening. This is the same issue as marines setting up in the space, aliens can go and try and catch them but its such a tedious ordeal it makes everyone cry.

Yeah... Xenos don't really dig through rocks in the lore as far as I'm aware, and it would be a big gameplay change. We also can't implement changes from other servers. Denied for now.
