Karma/point system for special roles/command roles.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Karma/Points system player-to-player that enables special roles/higher end jobs.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Reduced griefing, more RP server-wide generally.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Roles could be restricted or created for Marines (such as the predator system with the manual white-listing). People will generally start getting more involved with non-combat roles in hopes of unlocking special roles down the road. Creates something for people to work for. You will see a ton more collusion and team work.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Code would be simple to implement, probably just need to create an autolog so mods can scan it for abuse. Create a special tab for it in the UI.

-1 I really hate that system, and it's practical for the Predators(no matter how much I hate it) but really impractical for the marine roles. It's very degrading to have to slog through a lot of karma crap and multiple white listings to get the roles you want. It really sucker punches newcomers, and I wish no servers used it.
Fun to be had, time to be glad.

The Karma/point system does not work well.... I hate to say it but it would not work well on our server..

At best, I can see a karma system being used for cosmetic items, but overall...ehhhhh.

Re: Karma/point system for special roles/command roles.
I actually had a "sort of" idea for this.
My thinking is that, players can give 1 Karma per round. BUT ALSO, completing a round without breaking a rule or causing an admin bwoink, can also generate you 1 Karma (if you are in for more than 60 minutes). If you break a rule, an admin can remove Karma depending on the severity of the infraction upto "all" your karma. Jobs would need small amounts of karma to be done.
So like, Squad Leader might require 8 Karma, whereas commander might require 15.
My hope, would be that a system like that would encourage people to play (really, 15 rounds is maybe a week of play unless you play a TON or are really good).
Anyway, I'm still working out details and I'd probably make a topic or something before i actually implemented it.

This is veeery bad for marine jobs, But can be good for unlocking predator and predator ranks. -1 cause this would fuck the marines, Most rounds will have no command staff.
Dabbingly dab.

Pointless for a combat server.

-1 We aren't paradise and you do not unlock predator with Karma, you unlock it with a whitelist application.

This would make this a much more frequent issue,
HOWEVER. Using this for Specialists would actually be much better.
Don't just give any asshole access to weapons like SADAR. And C4.
Eh. I have mixed feelings. RP-oriented roles and roles with more powerful weaponry perhaps, but I, personally, wouldn't like this to apply to being a predator. (Maybe I'm just selfish because I want all the hard work put into my application draft be deleted because you can buy your way in with RP points). Predator ranks, however, would be good. To give certain predators more control over the others depending on their prowess for RP.
-1, until everything is developed enough to be fun to play, as of now Researcher is essentially useless except for laser scalpels and batteries. Predators need to be fleshed out, and only then, when everything's sorted, will this be relevant.

I actually made this post in relation to the medical fields, seems like most of the time people skip medic.

Re: Karma/point system for special roles/command roles.
Granted that I have joined the community just a few weeks ago, I play two-three rounds almost on a daily basis, and thus far I have never seen the Medbay unmanned. Under-staffed, sure, but not unmanned. Said this, adding a karma point to try and encourage that, may backfire and potentially prevent good medical RPers from playing their favorites roles.qsleepy wrote:I actually made this post in relation to the medical fields, seems like most of the time people skip medic.
A Karma system, at least in my opinion, will just stop people from playing the roles they just want to play with. And from what I've gathered, the Admin Team is very present on their own server, so they have all the time and the means to warn/ban whoever plays incorrectly with their assigned roles.
So for me, this is a -1.
Cpl. Arthur Cromwell: Staff Sergeant, as a daily reminded, I will remind you that I, as a field medic, will stay behind the rest of the team to heal to the fuck-face that gets injured, got it?

Re: Karma/point system for special roles/command roles.
I play pretty regular and I meant more towards medics, not medbay. 2/3 rounds I will be in a group of 6-10 marines with no medics or SL's.
I think the karma idea is going poorly because of association with paradise station. I wouldn't want their system, but sometimes wish I could add something to a character that just spent 20 minutes fighting and dragging me around trying to save my life. Instead of unlocking or prohibiting anything, maybe it could just be a total count with a point system that converts into medals and awards on the marines dossier when shift-clicking?

Multiple iterations of this have been discussed, for now though, it is a no-go. Denied.
