Squad Specialist suggestions to improve gameplay for marines and bridge officers
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Giving squad specialist a leader helmet which has a camera that BO can use. Also give squad specialists access to shuttle consoles.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
- Command staff can observe the squads better
- Marines can be deployed on low-pop rounds when there are no higher than specialists on (happened today)
- Faster medical evacuation when SL doesn't always have to be present to send the shuttle/pod
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
- There is almost always lack of squad leaders in half of the squads. Giving them (specialists) a leader helmet will let BOs see how specialists lead their squads when squad leader doesn't exist. Also, squad leaders get wounded and killed on the field, leaving their helmet in middle of jungle/barrens, not benefiting the bridge officers.
- Specialists having leader helmets and access to shuttle console also makes it more clear to people not reading the wiki that they indeed have power over normal squaddies.
- It is very easy to implement and doesn't require much coding.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

I don't really support this since it would make SL's less valubale. What we need is a rework for the squad filling system not patching of it by giving specialists semi SL capabilities.

Spec's are in no way special snowflakes deserving of anything extra. Specialists deserve the penalty of lacking more Sulaco support and powers on lowpop when frequently all 4 marines go spec and then have no Leader/engineer/medic and thus are very limited in what they can do without major powergaming.
Get balanced squads, stop being part of the problem and always powergaming and wanting to be a spec.

Specialists already bug the crap out of me, they don't need a leg-up on the Squad Leader

Yeah, I dunno. Whenever I see people who are Spec for round after round after round, I kind of groan a little. If a squad has only two people, you can bet one of them will be a Spec.
As for the rest? Honestly, I think Medics should be the ones given shuttle console access, not giving Specs yet another bonus that makes them a direct upgrade from Marine Standard.

The problem you noted here was the lack of SLs. Possible solution is to step up and request to be promoted to one and let someone else have your spec role.
Giving specs SL level of privilege and gear would degrade their importance, and even less people would become a SL, hence aggravating the problem you just stated.

Then what about giving medics console access and engineers camera helmet? Would encourage to play both roles and fix the problem I mentioned.Bath Salts Addict wrote:Yeah, I dunno. Oh my god yes.Grypho wrote:what about giving medics console access
Perhaps add a locker in the SL's room with a supply beacon, command headset and a "guest pass" giving shuttle access? That way, the SL can appoint someone else from the standards to take over.
Lockie 'Furry' Hughes, your local source of annoyance, medicine and Will. E. Coyote engineering. Mostly medicine. Maybe annoyance.

To be fair, Specs do have the highest rank before the SL, so on top of what they already get, they also have an IC rank. From my experience, if anyone other than Sergeant Specialist Snowflake tries to take over, regardless of competence, Sergeant Special Snowflake will get pissy and cite the ranks page on the wiki despite barely using it in other scenarios.Derpislav wrote:Oh my god yes.

Specialist should be the 2IC basically? Right?
