Pilots/Engineers/Space Jockeys and Xenos
This is more of an RP discussion about the alien universe than something closely related to CM, but ohwell.
So Space Jockeys are the guys who predate the yautja and have the most advanced technology in the aliens setting. They like bio weapons and may have created the xenomorphs to use them as living bombs to wage war against Space Assholes, presumably. Possibly the yautja.
The wiki says that the engineers creating the xenomorphs is only a theory, but the Engineer's armor, weapons, and other shit they make have the same biomechanical texture that the Xenomorphs have, and that biomechanical stuff is pretty unique to the xenos and engineers, so it's not a really far-fetched one.
The discussion here is about the Xeno's relationship to the engineers. Would they know they exist? Would they know they created them? Would they worship them like the Empress and Queen Mother?
This information won't really be useful in CM unless there's some Pilot ruin or artifact or whatever, but it's nice to flesh out the world.
Here's the wiki's page on them: http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Engineer

Re: Pilots/Engineers/Space Jockeys and Xenos
Maybe the Xenomorphs already existed, but in a really primal state that hadn't yet evolved into what it was now. I figure that the Engineers used them in this early stage, studying their bodies to develop technology. Then, they came back later on and rushed the Xenomorph evolution cycle ahead and tried to maintain a symbiotic relationship with them -- the technological advancements of the Engineers combined with the sheer brutality of the Xenomorphs would've ensured that the Engineers would never lose power.
Unfortunately, it seems like the Xenos really didn't like that idea, as shown by the Giant Facehugger/Trilobite that overpowered the Engineer in Prometheus.

I'm unsure if the xenomorphs are actually sentient. Its directly relatable to bee's in a beehive, in that they don't really think like you and I. They only move based upon functionality of the hive and what the queen directs them to.
Also from a functional view, the engineers probably wouldn't want to create a weapon that can think that far. So I don't think they would know or care about their creators.
In terms of their worship, if you could actually tell the xenomorphs that this is the "queen of queens", then yea, they would probably worship them like a queen.
There can be beings who only think to function. There are jellyfish(or some kind of relatable marine animal) that are incredibly good problem solvers (which is thinking). However they do not contain the capacity to do something else that is subjective.somebody wrote:But what about the queen, she controls all them she must be sentient.

I don't think they care. They might possibly know of the existence of the Engineers, given the hive mind ability and the incredible intelligence of the Queen Mothers, but to worship them as gods? Probably not. The Engineers seem to have disappeared by the time the CM timeline rolls around, so I doubt they are too relevant for the xenomorphs. I also think the Engineers weren't designing xenomorphs to combat the Yautja. They were either an all-purpose genetic weapon to make sure no other space-faring people would surpass them, or a means of combating some interstellar war with an equally powerful adversary.

Not at all. The dead space jockey on Archeron had a gaping hole in its chest from a chestburster.Tub wrote: In terms of their worship, if you could actually tell the xenomorphs that this is the "queen of queens", then yea, they would probably worship them like a queen.

I think it's more possible that they were fighting whatever at the time, not specifically the yautja. Though referring to Yautja as Space Assholes is pretty amusing.\N wrote: I also think the Engineers weren't designing xenomorphs to combat the Yautja. The all-purpose part makes sense, due to xenos being able to incorporate DNA from whatever host they pop out of. If they were desgined to combat a specific species, then they would resemble them more to survive in their environments?

They didn't create the Xenomorphs, If they have a planet i don't think they created them or are using them.

Well, humans have a homeworld and Engineers are confirmed to have created humanity apparently.

Remember how Ripley threatened to torch the Queen's eggs in that one movie? I'm pretty sure understanding human speech is advanced thinking.Tub wrote:I'm unsure if the xenomorphs are actually sentient. As for my thoughts on this, the Xenomorphs did not reach the state they are in now naturally. Either the Engineers created them, or advanced and altered their evolutional path.
Only one Xeno is ancient enough to remember the Engineers. The Empress, which must have been one of the first Queens ever created. And I don't think ANYONE but the Empress knows that they were created by another species. The Empress essentially controls all of the Queens by making all of the Xenomorphs think they came from her, if they discovered they were created by the Engineers, there would be one of two things, a big change of allegiance to a dead species, or Queens rebelling.

Actually it's Queen Mothers, then Empresses, then Queens. An Empress is an elder queen that kicked so much ass it became something better. Might have missed something though

Queen Mother then, not Empress.Nick123q23 wrote:Actually it's Queen Mothers, then Empresses, then Queens. An Empress is an elder queen that kicked so much ass it became something better. Might have missed something though
Why isn't the Queen Mother the Empress though? the Queen Mother would surely be the most ancient Xeno.

Queen mothers aren't actually queens, although they do secrete royal jelly and lay eggs, while Empresses are aged, battle-harded, badass queens.
It isn't explicitly stated, but Queen Mothers are probably older and stronger than Empresses if they lead the entire species, else what stops an empress from killing a queen mother and taking it's place?
