A rule restricting Marines from carrying two rifles.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):As the title says, add a rule limiting Marines from taking two M41A rifles into the field with them. However, let them take shotguns and SMGs as a spare.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):It's fucking retarded for Marines to have two heavy-ass assault rifles on their back and on their armor slot. It's a waste of the Sulaco's resources, it makes no sense ICly, and it's just pure metagaming from an OOC standpoint. No real life soldier or even a SPESS MAHREEN would take two identical assault rifles out on the field. I've heard of soldiers taking shotguns or SMGs as a secondary/back-up weapon, though.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):Just add a nice fancy new rule.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):Literally no coding needed. Just make sure players know the new rule and make sure staff enforce it.

Re: A rule restricting Marines from carrying two rifles.
This is almost immpossible to implement and upkeep, it also nerfs marines a lot, since the m41a rifle is the most one you want to have due to its good damage and magazine, compared to smg and a shotgun, they already have so many problems, it seems unnessecary to restrict them from carrying more guns
leaning to -1, but gonna stay neutral

It's as possible as admins deleting lockers of Marine equipment before deployment. I also don't see how it's such a major nerf as you claim since they still have access to the other stuff they have.MrJJJ wrote:This is almost immpossible to implement and upkeep, it also nerfs marines a lot, since the m41a rifle is the most one you want to have due to its good damage and magazine, compared to smg and a shotgun, they already have so many problems, it seems unnessecary to restrict them from carrying more guns

Wait, if deleting marine equipment lockers, would that not mean they will have no armor, clothes and etc whatsoever then...?
plus, unless there has been a change recently, a hunter can knock you over and steal the m41a rifle, which means you have to either use a less better weapon (smg is basically not that great against many xenos and only to really finish them off, shotgun requires you to get too close and personal to the aliens, and any fast ones or the ones with stun can easily make short work of that) and besides, this "other stuff" is highly limited, while m41a rifle and other weapons are highly numerous, and its a pain in the ass if you lose one and because a rule states you can't take more than one rifle, you will have to wait at least 3-10 damn minutes to get from the dropship and to the armory to grab one, or in seconds someone to give you one if they willing to sacrifice they firepower

Impossible to enforce at all hours and suggested fixes sound dumb.

Re: A rule restricting Marines from carrying two rifles.
Sometimes Marines will take lockers to briefing and load it up with ammo and other assorted gear before going down to the planet. Staff considers this metagaming, even though I'm of the opinion that it isn't, at least compared to taking two identical assault rifles. Secondly, you're not supposed to be anticipating contact with aliens. That's why it's called "METAGAMING". Now, I'd be slightly warmer about it if they grabbed a second rifle after they actually saw aliens melting and dragging guns/marines away, but absolutely not prior to rounds just for the sake of making "optimal loadouts" like they're playing Call of Duty or some shit. And honestly, if you lose your gun, then yes, you do have to resort to a weaker weapon. That's the whole point of losing your gun in the first place.MrJJJ wrote:Wait, if deleting marine equipment lockers, would that not mean they will have no armor, clothes and etc whatsoever then...?

And this doesn't even cover the fact that some Marines carry 3-5 revolvers in their backpack.

I am confident that its-
Staff considers this metagaming
...the fuck?
And honestly, if you lose your gun, then yes, you do have to resort to a weaker weapon. That's the whole point of losing your gun in the first place.
NOBODY, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY wants to lose they guns, this is not real life, this is a game, losing a gun can be completley fatal and kill you, which is why people grab m41a in the first people, and if we gonna argue metagame, i would like to divide our attention to xenomorphs, who have zero idea what the fuck a grenade, mine or any of the beacons are, but when they see them, they instantly run away and meta them, we not trying to give them a rule of not running away from those things, are we? xenomorphs meta alot, marines meta alot, its considerably immpossible to actually make both sides not meta
And this doesn't even cover the fact that some Marines carry 3-5 revolvers in their backpack.
This absolutely does not help them, at all, since the revolver has a slow firing speed and a few rounds, sure it hurts a lot, but whats the point if you can't hit anything that is fast enough to dodge?

^So... what point are you making?
Yes, it's an annoying break from IC at least and metagaming at most, but not much can be done here unless we have hardcoded restrictions on the amount of guns carried.

Does anyone actually know how heavy assult rifles are? Because this feels like a thing we need to know. What about a system where the items you carry add weight, and more weight means slower moving. It would discorage multiple heavy weapons without making a mad and nearly unenforcable rule.

Only if you enforce a 1 facehugger per xeno rule.

According to the CM Technical Manual, the M41A with a 100-round mag and sling weighs around 10 pounds. Seeing as how we use 30 round mags it'll be even lighter than normal.Wesmas wrote:Does anyone actually know how heavy assult rifles are? Because this feels like a thing we need to know. Talking from my irl military experience, two assault rifles are nothing to carry. Shooting can be more troublesome. Had to carry a couple of them during a foot march.

Re: A rule restricting Marines from carrying two rifles.
I don't see Marines carrying two M41A's on their person being too much of a problem, for Standards they usually only get enough attachments to kit out a single rifle and for anyone else they usually cannot afford to carry more than one M41A if even that.
Of course the main concern here is that why bother carrying a SMG or a Shotgun when you have the vastly superior M41A? The only time you would take a SMG is if your a Spec with a SADAR and even then you have more options, and the Shotgun is very ineffective to begin with.

+1 for me as well. If you're going into a drop expecting to lose your rifle, you probably shouldn't be dropping.

Alright, so that means everyone on board of sulaco should just stay there and wait forever?monkeysfist101 wrote: If you're going into a drop expecting to lose your rifle, you probably shouldn't be dropping.

Only if they're using metaknowledge that there's aliens that will try to take their guns.MrJJJ wrote: Alright, so that means everyone on board of sulaco should just stay there and wait forever?

I take two rifles for different purposes. One is my standard issue mod for accuracy and fire speed, the other is modded with a bayonet in case I'm fighting CQC, though I primarily bash weeds/windows/barricades with it. I switch my rifles during the round a lot.

then why have we got mag railsmonkeysfist101 wrote:+1 for me as well. If you're going into a drop expecting to lose your rifle, you probably shouldn't be dropping.
This suggestion sounds like bloody hell to implement on any level, whether rules-wise, or code-wise.
Can't pick up more than one rifle at a time because it's hardcoded? Good fuckin' luck retrieving your buddy's modded-out m4a1 after he goes down to a hugger.

How about we deal with Xenomorphs meta and Powergaming first then?monkeysfist101 wrote: Only if they're using metaknowledge that there's aliens that will try to take their guns.

because last time I checked, there was a huge difference between attaching a sling to your rifle and bringing two rifles.Pilcrow wrote: then why have we got mag rails

Not at all. The mag rail is to prevent you from dropping your rifle. Deciding to bring a second rifle would be like saying, "If I get knocked over or drop my rifle, I won't pick it back up. I'll just bring two rifles."Pilcrow wrote: that doesn't change your original point
