Tracks

Post by ItsTheSleepy » 05 Feb 2016, 14:38

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Adding time to blood trails. You could either add the time they were added there or how long they have been there for. There has been many times I've seen a random blood trail and wondered if that is new or old and wondered whether
to follow it or now

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This could help Marines + Xenos out by finding out if they are on the right way to their squad or something, or if there has been a fight nearby and they need to help with it. Also, if a marine was bleeding and you were following him as a xeno, tracks would help A LOT to find him.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Either when you right click there would be the timer or time there, or you could have a tab saying 'Tracks' and when clicked it would say the time it was added in the chat.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Eh, I don't know a lot about coding but I know it would be done by coding.

Instead of a precise timer, how about the state of the blood?

For example, "The blood is fresh", "The blood is dry", etc.
When the voice from the shadows calls you
When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

"There are muddy footprints embedded in the dirt. They're still fresh"

"There are strange clawprints in the grass"

Things like this.

Not just blood trails, but leaving footprints would make for a LOT of tension actually.
Remember in Jurassic World, when the security team followed Raptorzillabebbie's blood trail and were ambushed? that.

And the lone survivor of a squad with a gash in his arm was desperately trying to to get back to the FOB, leaving deep footprints and a blood trail. Don't tell me there isn't much potential for drama and unique situations with this.

Good idea mate. +1.

Pretty sure that is already in.

Huhuh, not sure how would that be possible without using too much CPU for spawning effects on every step, for every mob...

The issue I forsee is lag. You are going to add multiple new things, with timers, and their generation. It would add to the stress on the server. I love the idea, but it may never work due to lag load.

Footprints would kill the server. But yeah, don't we already have some idea of how fresh blood is?

It could be interesting, but the coding would probably be hell, not to mention the lag. and anything that promotes a more rp like environment is welcome in my book. And while we have an idea of how fresh the blood is, it goes from two extremes, with no mid ground. From "Wet" to "dry", no middle ground area.

There's currently /some/ semblance of this in the code already. Fresh blood (talking under five minutes fresh) will show up as a brighter red color, and will be referred to as 'blood' when you mouse over it. Dried blood will be named 'dried blood', and will take on a darker hue.

Yeah thats the only thing that is really stopping this from happening

When bodies still bled I used to drag around dead marines to lure other marines into bad situations with the blood splatter. +1 but I am also aware that this might not get accepted because of lag.

We could take a feature from mud and blood: Recon, where you randomly leave tracks from time to time, and if you click on them, you can conceal them with a % of sucess.

This would be horrible for big groups, where no one would conceal, but for predators, stealth xenos, and small squads, it'd be very important.

Why would you need time?

If it was recent, it's blood, if not, it's dried blood.

Nothing else is necessary...

Denied.
