Americans next top researcher!

Post by apophis775 » 13 Feb 2016, 18:46

So, I'm putting some final touches on the second part (of three) for my research stuff.

Here's what will get put in tomorrow:

Machines:

1. Weyland Yutani Brand Biomechanical 3d Printer

Alien Items:
1. Blood samples
2. Chitin Chunks
3. BioMass

Items research can make:
1. Chitin plates - can be used to reinforce ANY armor (can be added twice, but results in additional slowdown, so it might make that B18 even MORE formitable, but also almost completely stationary)
2. Anti-Acid spray - Can be sprayed on ANYTHING to make it impervious to acid. Yes, even barricades.
3. Resin Syringe - Single-use syringe that can repair a helmet ANYWHERE (meaning, not just the vending machines).

The way it will work, is that an autopsy will give you some components. You can either research the components, or use them as materials.

Also, If fixed the "autopsy on live xeno" thing, and hopefully the "moved away xeno" thing as well.

BEFORE YOU ALIUMS COMPLAIN, There will be decently high costs of alien materials to make the items. For example, anti-acid spray, will require a bunch of biomass and chitin, and about 20 seconds to apply it.

Also, aliens do NOT know about the research, thus, pulling away alien bodies IS meta (unless the alien isn't dead, but when it dies, you should drop the body, I'll adjust this in an update soon).

Unless the Chitin plates also add a knockdown resistance it won't be worth it. Speed is key in SS13. Other than that, looks like a really cool update.

For now, only these 3, like the post says, part 2 of 3.

Part 3, will have MUCH more stuff, but i need to get this stuff tested and some more sprites made.

"and about 20 seconds to apply it."- Does that mean it doesnt work in 20 seconds or It takes 20 seconds to apply it?

Yeah, Isn't anti-acid going to be a huge boost?

Weld the vents, put up walls strategically and spray them and the Aliens can be ENTIRELY trapped.

Does it include spitting acid globs (á la Spitter/Boiler/Praetorian) or just the corrosive-acid verb?

Because as Leudoberct said above, near invincible e-grilles are going to play havoc when it comes to Marine turtling, which is one of the things I though you specifically wanted to discourage, Apop.

It means, you must stand there immobile, for 20 seconds.

Also, it's VERY difficult to make. right now, you need to kill at least 1 alien to get the materials to make it. Not counting, the kill to get the materials to research it.

So basically, 1 Alien body = Research materials for acid
Each alien body after that gives you one of the follow basically: 1 chitin plate, 1 anti-acid spray, or 2 of the resin to fix helmets.

If necessary, I can adjust it to be very costly very easily to prevent abuse. It's designed to be used on barricades and armor, but not walls or grills. I suppose I can edit the specific item to not function on those things.

From an Ic standpoint wouldn't this also be useful against the boiler as you know it makes acid clouds etc and also heavy spit from praetorians and spitters? Just a thought anywho.

For now, everyone gives the same stuff, but yea, it will be scaled, plus t2 and up will give additional organs to research stuff.

Except marines are never hurting for xeno corpses thanks to them being held together with wet twine, and I can't wait for un-acidable barriers for the hangar defenses.

Oh boy, more marine buffs just what the server needs. But hey, it takes 20 whole seconds to apply this mass-produce able stuff

Hey,calm down. The xenos will get their buff eventually.

And I don't see marines taking xeno corpses often to the Sulaco anyway but that may change.

I think you mean that will change, and buff eventually in dev terms means 'maybe next year'. With this massive marine bais coming directly from the top as well, maybe never

They have it planned for an xeno update so be patient, they can't do ALL the things at once you know.
And sure,I think most of the staff plays both teams equally though and I don't think they are MASSIVE marine biases as the cool shiz for the xeno update will come eventually.
But yeah, main point is that they are working on it

Cool update, I hope in a future update the Researcher becomes a WY employee. That would be so cool for RP.

Edit: Also, I couldn't find it. What was the first part of the researcher update?

Looking forward to this, mainly the resin thing, sick of having to scrape together a million helmets...Plus gives research a job, I might actually start doing it.

Due to LIFE, this is slightly delayed.

Also, other than just "life" it's delayed by it not wanting to work, and me needing to figure out why.

Since cloning may be removed at some point for testing, any possibility of expanding research in to the genetics section and adding one more researcher slot?
