General clothes for marines idea thing.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Basically after X amount of damage the player has taken while wearing clothes, the clothes would become more tattered or ragged. (Subject to change if people feel the need that this isn't the best way.)
An example would be:
Marine player takes damage from a few slashes after which the armour and possibly the jumpsuit if high enough damage would change to a more ragged state/sprite after it has changed to this more ragged state it would stay like that even if more damage was received.
(I mean in-theory if people wanted an extra 'thing' this could just be made into a durability idea for clothes and the like, however that's up to you chaps.)
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Immersion, Generally would nice to have a "I've been down to the planet man, I've seen things man" look.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Think I covered this in the summary, however feel free to fire away with questions and the like.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Lots and lots of Spriting and a tad bit of coding. (Sorry Josh)

+1,
Give me those nudist marines.
Seems like a lot of work, but hey, could be something that is slowly trickled, more of a side project.

It's amazing how the first two responces to the idea involve ass cheeks and nudity.

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
-sighs- If this did get accepted it wouldn't matter where you aimed because it would if overall brute damage exceeds X amount then the sprite/ state of the uniform would changed to a more ragged one. I mean it could be a gradual trickle of 'ragged-ness' if devs have enough spare time to fiddle about with it.Egorkor wrote: aim for the groin for best results.

Ragged clothes would be good, any part except the groin... I don't want to see the butt of someone.

Very simple to add, and even if it doesn't always work as planned, it's purely flavour, so no big deal. I don't see any minuses. +1. +2 if we get blackened armour from fire damage, so I can make my friends sneeki-breeki like by roasting the shininess out of their vests.

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
To be honest you could probably do that, for instance:A doomed survivor wrote: I would like to see charbroiled mahriins. Either by fire, or char broiled from high corrosive acids.
If burn damage = X amount change to burnt sprite armour/clothes.
If brute damage = X amount change to slashed and ragged sprite armour/clothes.
If toxic damage = X amount change to a a partially molten sprite of armour/clothes.
I presume that there would probably need to be something to stop them from over lapping with sprites, so perhaps have it that after you reach X amount of damage with a certain substance your armour/clothes won't change to another substance's damage if that one also reaches the X amount.
Explained abit better:
Marine player takes X amount of burn damage so the armour/clothes changes to a burnt style/sprite.
Then the same marine player takes X amount of brute damage but this time because the armour is already burnt the armour/ clothes won't change. (Or you could have it where it changes and adds on all these different damage types until your armour/clothes are cmpletely fucked up, however that would take alot of work.)

I'd this, it'd add so much to the roleplay and immersion. Just imagine fighting your way into or out of the hive (as if you'll get out of your checker cell, sheep!) adn coming out, covered in blood and dirt, with torn clothing and maybe cracked or broken armour! It'd look awesome.
(i told you to imagine it you arse, why aren't you imagining!?)

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
It's possible, but would double, triple, or quadruple our number of clothing sprites depending on number of stages. I don't know much code, but I'm assuming it would add a fair amount of lag keeping track of everyone's states.

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
Neutral.
This is a neat idea but it's going to be daunting to implement. Like, really daunting since the shoulder lamps don't appear to use overlays. Aside from making the cosmetic effects themselves, which can be done via overlays/mixing library for someone already familiar with how that functions, actually getting them to show up for various damage sources would be pretty time consuming. No lag, but a lot of trial and error.

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
This might cause even more lag to the server...I think. But it's an overall good idea to implement. Makes it more realistic and adds the the "I've seen shit man".
Im neutral because lag is a big issue when it comes to gameplay.

Re: General clothes for marines idea thing.
+1 All these comments are right. It would be nice to see marines coming in with the "I've seen shit" look rather than "I just have blood" or "it looks like I've done nothing". To players, this would give a bit more immersion and I would like to show proof that fighting aliens off are difficult.
Spread the positivity, everyone!
