Xeno Leg Cuffs

Post by Reznoriam » 16 Feb 2016, 12:50

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
I would like to see xenos have an ability to make resin leg cuffs.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
The idea is that some xeno classes would have the ability to gunk up a marines legs with a glob of resin. Doing this would provide a limited window after a marine escapes from a nest or if a captured marine somehow gets up to respond. Right now if a hugged marine's stun timer elapses they pop up able to move at full speed which can result in a jail break scenario. A leg cuff movement penalty would hamper them slightly without completely obliterating their effectiveness.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Secreting a leg cuff would take a second or two to do, which would necessitate the marine being incapacitated to complete. Removing the leg cuff should not take very long, perhaps only ten seconds or so. The idea isn't to create a long term hampering effect but to provide a short response time for an escaped marine. Right now if a marine being taken back to a secure nest manages to get up they are almost impossible to stop unless you happen to have a spitter handy. This results in a hilarious Benny Hill scene where aliens are trying to knock down the marine but can't. Pouncing and spitting help, but pounce has a long cooldown and there isn't always a sentinel handy to help keep the marine down. When there are proper nests handy this isn't as much of an issue, but lets face it the drones aren't always on top of their game here and the need to constantly guard marines the way it is now essentially removes a xeno player from the game for long patches of time while they sit on top of the marine like a clucking hen.

This change may even help the marines in the long run because of xenos become more lax about guarding captured hosts it may provide them with more opportunity to escape whereas now guarding hosts is almost mandatory.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Appropriate xeno class(es) get verb creating a leg cuff. Resin leg cuff is destroyed upon being removed. Uses existing leg cuff system similar to bear traps and Yuatja mines, enabling the resincuff to be removed by assisting marines as well.

Or maybe cuffs that marines can use on xenos, to capture them for study?

I like it. Maybe using a knife on a marine's legs could cut it away quickly?

Two words: honeycomb nests.

More words: The only reason I'm opposed to this is the unbelievably bullshit honeycomb design, meaning escape is impossible even without a speed debuff. And even then, I would much rather have nests you can't escape from without help from outside.

I still do not understand why people complain so much about the honeycomb. What we NEED to complain about is tier three aliens sitting on your chest like it's their job. Oooor spam tackles while in nests, or sitting in doors waiting for you to un-nest, or...

Oh, and yeah no, -1

This would be fairly bullshit to have to put up with.

Sums up my thoughts on the matter.

It's probably because everyone expects the sentinel (and sometimes drone) castes to sit at home all day and babysit the hell out of all the captured marines, and nothing else at all. What else are they supposed to do? Everyone whines if they leave the hive because they're too slow or something or another. Unless you mean tier 3s like ravagers or hivelords. Hivelords I would think have better things to do with their time like making tunnels or expanding the hive, and warrior castes probably shouldn't be hanging around in the hive. They should be out messing up marines.

Well if you're in a honeycomb you're not going to be getting out easily regardless of cuffs, and I /would/ like it if the cuffs could be removed fairly quickly making them less impacting on nested marines. I'm just hoping to see less Benny Hill style shit going on when a marine manages to get away while being brought back to a nest.

I'm pretty sure marines can still outpace several xeno castes even on weeds, except for the runner and Hunter.

You want a speed debuff? Solution: Sticky resin.

-1 because leg cuffs are no longer necessary.

I never understood why people were so up in arms about honeycomb nests. When you get dragged away you're not supposed to be able to fucking waltz out of the hive like you can with non-checkerboard patterns. I'm against the door-sitting and standing directly on hosts, that shit is annoying, but at a time where xenos are often times horribly understaffed, I am fine with checkerboards. I apologize for the potentially derailing post.

Oh and -1 to the leg cuffs, that is overkill at its finest.

So if i remember correctly, we have legcuffs implemented in the game now for aliens. Im guessing lock and resolve this thread?
