Sligneris - Moderator Application

Questions

I am able to moderate about 20 hours per week. I do have a Skype account. I do have experience being staff, including head admin position of a small RP community. I played original Colonial Marines, back when it still used BoxStation map. I never applied to Colonial Marines before, and I am not currently a staff member of any active community.

I had one ban on Colonial Marines for excessive violence, three days I believe. It was about a year ago, and since then I had played a lot on other servers, including Baystation and TGstation.

Theoretical scenarios

1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
Firstly I'd send him a PM, asking him why he started shooting. In the event he didn't actually shoot a fellow marine, or it was accidental misclick, I'd tell him not to do that again and leave him be. If he ignored the PM and continued shooting, I'd send another PM, telling him to stop. Should he either refuse to stop or ignore the PM completely, I would be forced to remove him from the round. This would fall under offense of griefing if he shot at other marines.

2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
I'd try to quickly assert the cause - if it was a griefing marine or alien intentionally causing the breach, I'd seal it as soon as possible and take action regarding the player.
If it was caused by an unintentional supermatter delamination, I'd have no choice but to let it be.

3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Obvious one - tell marines that lifesign scans don't detect many hostiles and reject their request.

4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
The marine would be PM'd about the incident. Much like in the case of weapon-firing, if it was an accident he'd be off with a warning and a staff note if he had no history of doing things like that. However if the marine did do things like that in the past, or it was clearly intentional, it would probably lead to a ban.

5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
That's a... weird one? The player would be quickly muted from adminhelp. If the description is extremely explicit, he could also be subjected to the rule regarding mature content.

6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
Obviously, I send a PM to them regarding their name, and...

6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I check their notes, to see if that's true. If they were called out already and have a note to that effect, I deal with that as both breaking the name rule and lying to staff. Otherwise, I just explain to them that it indeed is a rule, even if it was not brought to staff's attention before, and that they should change their name at the nearest opportunity - in case of extremely off names, I just give them a random name as replacement.

7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
Firstly, I inform him that a doctor is not a marine and that he is only allowed to carry a weapon no larger than pistol when aliens board Sulaco, instructing him to drop the rifle. I won't mention the wounded unless they were already mentioned over the medical channel, but I will suggest that doctors are supposed to keep watch over Medbay.

8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
If it was one minor surgery, I tell him not to do that in the future and leave a note. If he was a Master Surgeon of the FOB, the punishment may be more severe, possibly ending with a job ban.

9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Much like in the case of the nuke, I'd tell marines to finish their job and eliminate the remaining aliens on the planet.

10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Instant 3 hour ban for end round griefing.

11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Typical - I ask him why he's slipping marines and ask him to stop. He may be removed from the round if he keeps it up, but it's unlikely I would do any further enforcement if the player doesn't have much of a history of such behavior.

12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I check the logs, to see how the escalation went. If it was because of a single punch, the killer might expect a ban, and the victim would be resurrected. However, if it escalated into a full blown fight between them and both of them used lethal force, I'd just take a note of it, and decide depending on the player history.

+1, I like the answers expect for the napalm question, napalm grenades are banned and making them is no accident.

When it comes to napalm, I mostly focused my answer on the marine setting off the grenade.

The researcher responsible for making them would face a separate intervention - inquiring about whether he knows that they are not allowed to be made, with a possible reasearcher job ban and/or server ban.

With the exception of number nine, it sounds like you did your homework. But that one you might just not be familiar with the tools we use. Hopefully we'll give you an opportunity to use them.

Don't know what you mean about number nine, it looks pretty alright for the most part.

The application is alright, a lot of the answers are satisfactory, but show inexperience. The ones that are meh (the naming question and number 4) aren't too bad. I'm willing to give you a shot, +1.
